- It would be easy to discount the Suzuki Hayabusa because of its venerability. That would be a mistake. Suzuki was cutting edge in its development and the bike still is a one of a kind. Ultimate speed is pretty much meaningless on public roads but the Suzuki Haybusa is fully capable of scaring even experienced riders. It is not for everyone and in the feature length review competitive options are discussed with some ups and downs of each. In my POU, the Busa is used as a Supersport Touring bike and that is where it excels. Discussed here as well: power, economy (40 mpg!), maintenance/durability, looks and cool factor (people drop by during the review to say as much), ergos, lighting, tire, ergos, and value. Not for every rider, the Hayabusa is a supersport powerhouse that has stood the test of time. It's obvious claim, due to a technicality, is the fastest production motorcycle in the world. But there is a A LOT more to the Hayabusa that is discussed here: rock solid reliability, cool factor, comfort, economy, and more. The 1999 Busa created the Hypersport class. Supersport are the 600s, Superbikes were 750s, and open class Superbikes 1000s.

My father once owned one, he bought it from a Repossession site for about $3,000. It was an older model than this, but it was a monster. I loved the bike, supreme ride, comfortable back seat, and great handling. He would take me out on rides, and it was a lot of fun. He traded it in around 2012 for a Honda RC 51 1,000 RVT (The Ducatti Killer). I did shed a tear, because the 'Busa was a huge staple in quality time spent with one another (my father is a single parent, and he never had a lot of free time).
Really enjoyed this review and it was a long time coming (been waiting since your 1000miles in one day video)! I too find the Hayabusa to be a beautiful-looking bike, but I won't own one until I get more riding experience under my belt.
I gotta say I never comment on any of your stuff but I really dig the bike vids and watch all of them...Keep em coming!

Great review, I have owned my Gen 2 Hayabusa since 2008 and I have never had any issues just regular maintenance. I have been a subscriber of your channel for years and I am a fellow Gun,Bike & Car guy.Your channel for me is the best of all worlds, keep doing what you do. I was wondering when you where going to review your Busa and it was worth the wait. I Just picked up a Harley Davidson Switchback, its a whole different ride a lot more comfortable great for criusing around. I love my Harley as well but I can’t let go of my Hayabusa, love the power no substitute for HP and speed.

My last ride was on a 750 GXSR, a Nisan Sentra ran a red light and t boned me and I'm still healing a lacerated liver, no broken bones tho thank God :)
Nutfancy thanks for this awesome review. As a former owner of a 2006 Busa I have to agree with the engine (best engine of any motorcycle I have ever ride in my life, hands down). Only con for me was the height (Im 5' 9''). Also brakes mine came with Tokiko (I hate them) and most important heat engine. In Miami when you drive it in traffic they have the tendency somethimes to turn off by a heat sensor to cool down the engine just wait a couple of minutes and there you go. PS I did all maintenance of the bullet proof engine was simple. God bless and keep them coming dude.
I'm on my second busa, first got stolen when I was deployed overseas. And your right no matter where I go it's a conversation starter, I did put a 330 6" over with a outside drive on the rear.... but no matter what this is the bike to have in so many ways it's not all for show

Great vid nutn. Have you thought about doing a vid for beginners to motorcycles? You could cover good starter bikes, what to look for in purchasing your first bike and safety gear. Just food for thought. Keep up the great work.

This review comes at the perfect time. I am in the market for a bigger touring style bike, I had not considered the Hayabusa before, now I am. I am not brand myopic and neither are the guys I ride with, we have Harley Honda Yamahas Suzuki and even a aprilia. I am considering everything from a Street glide to a YFR 1300, and thanks to you I am considering Hayabusa.

I recently picked up a 1998 Honda Vfr interceptor in Nampa, Idaho. I made the 650 mile round trip because I knew I wanted it. The mileage was relatively low (30k) on the odometer. That's low for a Vfr of the fifth gen. The first time I rode it, I was in love. Knowing the potential that this machine has as a sport touring cross the country bike, I had to buy it. The prior owner even waited a month for me since I was away for work and could not get to his place sooner. I am a happy owner of an awesome street bike that is both comfortable for long hauls as well as quite capable for sportier riding. A previous owner installed heated grips, purchased Corbin seats (even though the original Honda seat was part of the purchase and I still have it), and there is a battery condition led light that has a green yellow red indicator. I love the gear-driven cam whine, the v-four power plant is very well adapted for the street from the homologation race bike it was bred from...., I think the rc-46. The single-sided Pro arm, 'elf'-produced swing arm is sexy. And last, but not the least, Honda reliability. I love this bike. Now, time to get a few miles in before the long wait for Spring to begin again.

Your just plain ass entertaining!!! i dont even ride bikes cause i dont trust other drivers out there but I set here for over 2 hours watching your 50 min. video just cause. And why it took so long cause i have five little kids that i have keep in control so i have to pause a lot, but anyway i am a big 2nd amendment guy. I just put together a Savage 10 FCP SR with a Primary Arms 4x14 FFP mil/mil scope. Its a 1000 plus yard gun. I picked that gun do to the high value and watching your video on the Savage/Rem 700 videos you did. Thanks for you do! Your AWESOME!!!

That swede Ghost Rider's Hayabusa is just pure insanity. When you've got a Hayabusa at about 220lbs with 500hp, you REALLY have to be a master rider to even control that in normal riding.. not to mention how he drove it haha!

I used to be totally against the Hayabusa, because it is very large and heavy. Well, things change when you get a little older. My current bike is GSXR-750, great bike but not a distance bike. 200 miles on it and you feel it, and i always wanted a more comfortable bike with similar performance. I keep looking at similar bikes,(FZ-1, Ninja 1000, and older v-twins like the superhawk or sv1000, maybe even a Hayabusa). I don't ride like i did when i was 25, I'm 40 now and there is no need to impress other people, impress yourself and have fun. I think that is the main reason i love riding. Great review Nutn.
I've been running a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600A Classic and a Honda Goldwing GL1200 for years. This will be my next bike. I'm tall like you and was worried about having a Supersport and not being able to tour but I like what you've been saying about it. I went on a 5000 mile 10 day trip at the end of May this year and wished so many times that I had the power of the Busa, the turning agility and the comfort of the smooth ride. BTW, Gas mileage will be better on the Busa too, which helps convincing the wife of its economy!

My first time on a busa was when I was 16 y/o. Amazing production bike.
I had a 2010 zx6r that got stolen last year , Id personally buy a zx10 or a touring bike over a hayabusa but power to you nutn didn't know you were into bikes for years.
Im glad you wear the gear so many Americans in jeans and sneakers, I ride a mv 920 as my daily in Australia anyway as always love the videos.
You should try a naked bike with a sports bike engine some time , they are comfortable , fast and really fun in traffic, i wouldn't buy another super sport
i drive a hayabusa as a daily vehicle, i have no other vehicle and i have put 14500 miles in year. love it. its nice being the boss on the road. SD, CA
Hey Nutfancy! Been watching your videos here and there to kill time on the road.. But some how I missed the fact you owned this 2013 Limited edition hayabusa. I as well own the same bike. But since October I have only managed to put. 2,800 miles on it. Mabe when I moved to chico area in a year or two I can catch some more wind. Great video. Keep it up
harrison owen Awesome bike, eh? I'm sad to say I rode it a lot in B and C modes, it's like it magnifies that first cm of throttle travel to make bad traffic easier. I miss it, but I couldn't afford to keep it insured as much as I wanted to. -Doodle
nutnfancy b and c mode definitely make it a much easier to manage ride in traffic. But lately I find my self just starting it up and going and forgetting it doesn't save what mode it was in last.
Yeah insurance is crazy. Right now I don't have it insured except the basic in case it fall on someone hahahahaha. If this bike didn't exist my 2nd choice would be the sv1000 for sure
As ever a comprehensive and measured approach to reviewing, I admire the technical achievement of the Hayabusa but I struggle to love it from a "second kind of cool" point of view. You can see the application of wind tunnel and simulation runs in the form but I would love to see a redux with more aggressive angular design. The new nissan GTR is proof that hard lines can be aerodynamic. What say you mr Nutn?

Nutnfancy great review I have a 2013 Busa that came w/those yoshi cans. They were not loud enough for my liking so i put some barely baffled shorty pipes. I had Jardine GP1 pipes on my old 08 Busa. Your right about the top box if your bike was a different color you would look like a futuristic CHiP bike.

Just wondering if you did any bar risers or clip-on mods? I know it's a low stretched position and us old guys don't like to be bent over for long rides usually.
Not sure why some commenters are saying this bike is ugly. I happen to think it's sweet looking. Sort of futuristic in its own way. I'm not really a hardcore rider per se. I own a Yamaha, Royal Star. And admit, I'm one of those dudes who rides mostly on weekends for pure enjoyment. I prefer to just cruise and going fast isn't really for me. Perhaps, I don't want to be too risky. Due to I making my living using my hands. And scared if I crashed. I might ruin my career. If something happened, I suppose I could teach in medical school or conduct research. In which I would be content doing those things. However, I wouldn't be truly happy, unless I was performing surgery. I really love and enjoy being a surgeon. And helping in need.
Firearms, are a different story for me. I'm totally addicted to that hobby. And will purchase whatever I want. Opposed to needing. Sometimes I look at my collection in the gun room. And notice I have more firearms than some retail stores have. If the zombie apocalypse occurs. Family and friends, would definitely know where to go, to get geared up. Life is too short. Hence, people should find what they love. And pursue it with vigor and passion.

Rick S i have an 08 FJR and i love it so much... i have done 6 hour trips, i commute 40 min on a freeway daily, and i can lean the thing over when i want... sometimes i do wish i had that cruiser position but its only usually on the long trips, until i reach my destination, then im happy i have a standard position

Hey @nutnfancy what tips would you tell someone that wants to get into motorcycling and has no experience in motorcycling. I love bikes and motorcycles are super cool in my opinion. My dad used to have a honda and he sold it. I keep telling I want to get into it but he doesn't agree or wants me to get one. I don't want the bike to be a showoff, I want it to do what you do and travel places and see new things. I'm 17 and I would like to know what advice you gave Last Suspect thank you.

I totally agree with your rating. It's a perfect sport touring bike. Unfortunately it's too heavy for me. My bike has to be a daily driver and in city traffic it is no fun riding a bike that heavy (that's why I'm driving a Yamaha FJ09 since a few months). But for touring it's almost perfect. I had it on a weekend trip and I simply loved it. It was totally stock, so I had a few problems with my long legs. If I ever buy one, I definetely have to modify it but I know that it would be worth the money!

I bought the 2007 Kawasaki ZX-1400 Ninja new. This was the first year that the ZX-1400 out performed the GSXR to take the crown. but both are the awsome
I have a FZS-1,GSXR 1000 and this 2013 Special Edition Hayabusa. By far the Busa is my favorite ride for comfort and pure power. Heli bars and the sliders are a must for sure.

I can relate to everything Nutn says about the 'Busa - I have a ZX-14R. Heavy, turbine smooth endless power delivery. You want a rush...just roll these things open in 6th gear and feel it charge ahead. No good through the twisties though...all that power is worthless - it's just too big and heavy. My buddy on his KTM 950SM leaves me for dead when the road turns tight and technical. Great review "Bro."
Looks as if you took Mines road from San Jose, Hamilton observatory? That's some nice riding territory. No cops for days, twisty for the next 125 miles to Livermore or going the other direction out to the Junction for some old school burgers in the middle of nowhere.
Please try out a Kawasaki h2 or h2r if you ever get the chance! I personally think the busa is ugly as sin but to each their own I'm glad you enjoy it as much as you do.

nutnfancy the H2 is a little less than that. :) It's 25k, so it sits in the elite liter bike class in price right now with the Yummi R1M, Beemer S1000, Aprilia RSV4-RR/RF. The H2 weighs about 25lbs less than a Busa and puts out a decent amount more HP more than a Busa. at 220hp street trim. But you're right that thing is a supersport race bike were the Busa is more sport touring. I'd love to go cross country on a Hayabusa.

Hi Nutn, I'm surprised you haven't tried the convertibars yet. Look em up. Im 10 year active biker. I've had cruisers, sport bikes, classics, fat hogs, and sport tourers. When I found this accessory, I don't think I can live anymore without it on any sport bike or sport tourers including Busas. It should be the next thing that becomes stock for all bikes. Just like what happened to stabilizers, slipper clutch, and disc brakes.
ronnelandrae Doing the converti's on this one would end up hitting the windscreen. When I sized them up it seems real nice, but to accommodate his height it would need removal of the extended windscreen, then the wind bubble is shot, so no more tucking on long trips, etc. In the end he doens't mind tucking for the sprints, he's got it dialed in so he's resting on the tank. Every time I see one of these I want a B king all over again! _TD
nutnfancy Just a reminder, convertibars don't just raise the clip on bars, it can also lower it than stock or just simply bring it farther or closer to the rider. Then there's the angle adjustment also. It's basically an infinite way of adjusting the bars within the given allowable area. It might actually create space for more stuff. Stay safe and keep the rear wheel in the back! Awesome video!
