Nice! that sounds like a good idea, gas block picatinny would be good on this. I'm surprised a lot of folks want to change the wood lol i actually like the orangey color (but it does make it look like an airsoft haha) but yeah i have seen some great wood work done on these already, with the dyes/stains.
I guess some folks want the option later on to change the butt stock. Better off getting an older one or new fixed stock, but you’ll be paying big $$$ to the scalpers.
It looks great but I can believe the complaints about the non-existent cheek weld. It will be much harder to have repeatable accuracy, especially when fatigue sets in or body position changes. Overall not the most practical design.
Ottawa Gun Club posted some pictures on the main CGN thread, and they had added a small foam square to the inside of the folder's buttpad so it wouldn't increase the divet size. Someone else has modified an AK butt pad using a box cutter to fit the buttpad; although this would prevent folding, it would increase comfort when tactically or bench shooting. Someone else is using an SR cheek riser with a foam pipe wrap between the wood and the metal to allow a proper cheek rest. Someone else is using a dowel and paracord to create a cheek riser that still allow folding. Thanks for the video!
Oh yeah, I just added some layers of thick tape squares to cushion that tab from hitting the hand guard, but def need to come up with something more permanent. I might even file down the sharp edges on the butt stock as well. Sounds like people are coming up with a lot of innovative parts, pretty cool. It’ll be nice to see how people customize these the next few weeks. That’s why I love the firearms community, everyone adds a little bit of their own taste to their rifles. No, i wouldnt get rid of a classic like that, those french ticklers are beauties. Just save up and get the type81, dont ever sell brother youll regret it.
I don’t think you can put that on the hand guard but the pistol grip I believe you can after some minor altering. I think you need to file some of the top down.

Honestly, they are almost the same thing, the type 81 is just a modernized version of an sks, has a short stroke piston but with a pistol grip, detachable magazine, and gas regulator. If you have the extra $$$ then go for the type 81, other wise SKS will always be the budget friendly rifle.
Are you talking about the dust cover? It shouldn’t come off easily, mines actually really hard to get off… you sure the push button at the back is locking properly?
@canuckguns yea I didnt have it on right. The button wasn't at the rear most position. Had to pull the charging handle to get it to move cuz the spring wasn't doing it. The button thing keeps binding on its track

@@canuckgunsyou can own and possess standard capacity mags and run them in your rifles if you do it in a cucked ‘featureless’ configuration with a fin grip, fixed stock and no flash hider. You can run a fixed mag at ten rounds. That’s the basics. I don’t think it survives the next few years though because of the recent Bruen decision by the Supreme Court. We have been able to claw back a few rights.

No I don’t think that would work since there isn’t much room when the folded. Less than an inch of clearance.
Got mine yesterday. I noticed the top metal cover pops off easily. Do you have the same problem on yours?

Coolest 7.62x39 rifle we can own here up north. Cheek weld is nonexistent, but we didn't buy the underfolder for that reason 😏
