The speed can only go as high as the speed you game over'd on, so in my case I got up to S9 firs,t then played a game starting at S9. I don't know which level that is anymore though, probably the 30s?
Not entirely fair to compare something like this to modern games as they have features to enable faster play such as bag randomisers that help piece prediction and longer lock delays allowing you to move pieces around once they've dropped. It has taken years of refinement to move from something like this to a highly technical game like TGM, and only the very best and most dedicated can really notice the difference and reach the point where they can beat a game like this.

I was just playing S9 speed on this snes game, it's 3:12 am, it's all I do for entretainment so it's kinda sad but I recomend you play this same speed with no game music, listening to this song "Boyz Noize - Oh Oh!" it's on youtube, I go into another dimension, I wish the game would go even faster like the japanese guy that plays grand master tetris. But yeah, play the game with that song, it is.... THE SHITetris! weeeee

As someone who has played TGM and this game, this game is MUCH easier. It took me maybe 3 days of trying to max it. I still haven't gotten a GM grade. The initial orientations, combined with the fact this never gets any faster then the video make it pretty easy once you get used to it. Step reset and lack of wallkicks make it a challenge still, but it's very doable.
One thing that's harder in this game compared to TGM, is that you have very limited rotations during lock delay, due to the center of rotations and lack of floorkicks. It changes the strategy a lot, and takes some getting used to.

The S levels mean they're in the 30s, so S9 is equivalent to 39
"Single." It makes more sense once you've heard "Double," too.
