One of my compositional influences. I remember listening to this when I was in Music Theory class in high school back in the late 70s/early 80s. Loved it then, love it now.
We lost Richard Kent (one of the tenor soloists on this) yesterday, who had been living and teaching private woodwind lessons in Bryan/College Station TX for the last several years. Rest in Peace, Dick.
Jazz Fusionner. heard when I was a kid and actually had the album , because my dad went to NTSU and played in the lab bands. it took me about 6 months to find digital recordings and I said I got to share this. this shit is great
Was thinking it might have been available at the UNT Music Store but apparently not: store.music.unt.edu/home I know it's been available in the past, though.
The sad news of Lyle Mays passing brought me here. Such an amazing musician.
Yes. So happy to have heard him live. I treasure every recording with Lyle I own.
RIP Lyle Mays

Lyle Mays all over this recording!!!
He wrote and arranged every track but one (a Chick Corea song). This is practically the first Lyle Mays album. He also wrote and arranged on "Lab 74."

Great recording. But you should have heard this band play this tune live. Incredible! Chuck Schmidt. Bill Guthrie. Amazing players.
Anyone know where you can buy a copy of this awesome album?
Couldn't find it on Amazon, searched under "Lab 75," "North Texas State University Lab Band," "NTSU," nor "Leon Breeden."

I have it on (mint condition) vinyl. It is spectacular. In my opinion, this is the best One O'Clock Jazz Lab album.
i wonder how they came up with that beast of a title.
Lyle loved word play of all kinds.
The real question is, when is the Royal Mongolian Suma Foosball Festival happening? 🤔
Where else? In Royal Mongolia, of course!
It will be virtual until COVID dies down.
