Respect. I know this trail well, as I started riding it when it opened. In my late twenties, early thirties - I rode this trail from Carmichael to Old Sac, turn around to Folsom - then back to Carmichael... It wasn't very difficult when doing it every week, but also without much foot traffic, homeless, and the Fair Oaks / Orangevale leg was well taken care of. It is a shame that the County Board of Supervisors has fallen down on the job of keeping the Jewel of Sacramento ... well, the Jewel of Sacramento. One thing though, adding to the respect: I have never taken my mtb on this trail - always road bikes - and to think that this was a breakthrough ride? As I said - RESPECT. Thought: Maybe there are some trail advocacy groups that are lobbying the SC BOS to make some changes... one can hope - tough times.
Thank you very much. It is a shame that some of the trail is getting so homeless on the trail. Makes it a bit scary to ride some areas. I do hope they can fix that one day because it really is a great trail for road bikes or the occasional cruise on my MTB. There are some places off the pave area you can take MTBs. Not sure how legit that is though. I think many of the areas are for horses and hikers only. It's been awhile since I've been out there. Thanks again for checking out and commenting on my video.
I did pretty much this exact ride a couple months ago.. tons of fun. It's pretty diverse fighting cars, avoiding ghetto, beautiful trail, and even some mountain biking along the north side of the river near Lake Natoma. Just before you passed the dam there are some trails going up the hills there. Going down it is STEEP.
I did actually hit some of the single track on the way back. I didn't want to get it on film because I'm not sure how much of that is MTB legit. There is some good stuff back there though.
Was about to say the same thing! You more-or-less rode past my neighborhood, and I NEVER ride through there because of the complete lack of bicycling infrastructure. Props.
It was really fun. You should try to do it one day. Or at least maybe to Natomas Dam. I'm all about singletrack but the ARBP does have some really nice views and being by the river is great.
I haven't been back there since I did the ride. I am curious to know if they did move the boulders. That would be a really neat project to see them move those out.
Did this ride a couple of years ago, I did it on my highball c with two of my friends, it was my favorite ride of all time, we started on the Folsom side first because we lived in Roseville at the time. It's a great trail to do once in a while. From Old Sac to Folsom is also very nice. Just have to be a bit careful of the homeless. Usually very friendly but can get a bit violent at times. At least check out from Folsom down to Sac State area. Lots of parks on the way.
I've ridden about a 55 mile portion of this, from Sac State to Folsom Dam and back on a road bike . What you didn't show is the last 3 or 4 miles to the dam has some pretty good inclines. Always gets me puffing pretty good, but it seemed you were breathing pretty normally. Nice job!
It's difficult to catch the grade on camera. The GoPro effect is really frustrating. I mountain bike a lot at sometimes high elevations. It helps the lungs get much stronger. Thanks for watching this. Hopefully. You'll give the mountain biking a go.

You're brave... My friend who lives in Rocklin got hit by a car. The person did not stop at all. He held onto the roof rack and was banging on her window to stop. His road bike was completely destroyed. He said that was it with road biking. Sacto is not so much bike friendly. I rode a few times around from Antelope to Folsom. Just too dangerous!
Holy shit dude!! I didn’t think it would be 100 miles total! Also, if you ever did something like that again, the Granite Bay trails are only 2-3 miles further on the Levis

I just have a cheap hard tail specialized pitch now but I was thinking something like a 5010 or Bronson.please let me know what is a better option for our area
Tough decision. The 5010 is a very playful bike. I think that would be a great choice but the Bronson I believe is a bit better for the rough tech. I have a Megatower now and also rode the Hightower LT a ton. Both of those are great for climbing and railing tech. The Santa Cruz factory does offer demo rides. I'm leaning towards the 5010 for starters.
So where are the mountain bike trails by the American River Bike Trail? I know the trail is paved, but aren't there mountain bike trails that follow it?

The better trails start right by the dam on Hazel rd. area. I don't know the trail system very well. I just explore anything that looks like a trail. Seems like you could make a good singletrack loop around lake Natomas.
Yeah, I think I had to wait for a car to make the light change. I hate waiting for lights to change while I am riding. I usually just run them if I think it's safe to do so. Figured I probably shouldn't put that on video though. Don't want to be a bad influence. LOL
I just tried to stick to the American River bike trail as best as I could. I don't ride on roads but once in a very long while. The route I took got me a 100 miles of riding and that was the ultimate goal. Keep in mind I didn't plan this adventure in advance. I just woke up and started riding.
Good attention to detail. I did have a smaller rotor on the front. The Megatower is supposed to have 200mm front and back for the rotors. The fork and wheel were the only things I was able to salvage from my Hightower. That's why I had a 180mm rotor front. My new rotor I ordered finally came in and it is now a 200mm.
