Aerial Extortionist is one of the best white cards printed in the last 3-5 years. Still criminally underrated...puts in so much work. And is 4 power in the air to boot
@mi318s it's definitely towards the top end of the decks I play it in, but it's an amazing top end card. I only have two 5-drops in my Liesa decks, and it's definitely one of them. Removal, card draw & a flying 4/3 body. An immediate etb, a static effect, and good in combat. That's a lot on one card.
Sephara, Sky's Blade is a great alternative for Avacyn. It's a 7/7 lifelink angel, costs less than $2, you can cheat it out for only 1 white and gives all other flying creatures indestructible. I think everyone forgets about Sephara. I have her as a commander in one of my decks with tons of small flyers and it's great to get out on turn 3 and swing in for 7 commander damage on turn 4.
I have There and Back Again in my Sauron sacrifice deck, and having Mirkwood Bats on the field, then creating 14 treasures then sacrificing all of them is 28 damage to each opponent. Love it!
My favorite copper dragon alternative: Rapacious One! It’s only 3cents! Trample Whenever Rapacious One deals combat damage to a player, create that many 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens. They have "Sacrifice this creature: Add ."
My daughter and i were playing at our flgs, and an opponent played Primal Vigor. She played Whiptongue Hydra and wiped out 11 of my faeiries, so it went from a 4/4 to a 26/26 instanly.
As a tokens player with access to blue, Perplexing Test is amazing at the Cyclonic impression. 5 mana is a lot to hold up but as a blue player people will expect it, then bounce all non tokens and rebuild.
Rewind is a good budget replacement for a counterspell. While you have to pay 3 mana first it gets you 3 lands back untapped which makes it kinda free for other interactions at 3 mana.
Tribute to the world tree needs some love as a great henge replacer. Buffs smaller creatures, draws on medium sized and up and can draw you for tokens. Biggest downside is 3 green pips though
I don’t disagree that Tribute to the World Tree is an absolutely awesome card, but losing the add-a-counter-on-everything functionality of Henge *really* hurts, because a lot of lists are often already quite light on reliable ways to get the first counter on your 4-drops and up. If you’re not using much Proliferation beyond Evolution Sage and Karn’s Bastion, it’s not as big a deal, but… Going without a Great Henge isn’t where I’m going budget if my commitment to playing Green-Anything or Mono is long-term. People overuse the word “Staple” a lot in regards to EDH, but the Henge is a true house that makes a legion of Green decks better.
I often Play Flood of tears, then put Omniscience out... tada, all your stuff that's in your hand is now free.... put it back out. Really round about way of doing it, but it works
I'm surprised nobody mentions O-Naginata as a good Shadowspear budget replacement. The 3+ power requirement is trivial if your commander has that power. Shadowspear should be used on a big creature anyway.
I run a Primal Vigor in A Greta food artifact token deck because I need both tokens and counters. It's honestly backfired about half the time but the chaos is fun 😂
Got worst decision ever was selling my oko and shadowspear during eldraine prerelease. It was my first set back in like 6 years and was still to out of the loop to know good cards.
For a budget fetch replacement, the lord of the rings cycle cards do a really great impression such as lorien revealed or generous ent. Searches for typed lands, has extra synergy by putting something in the graveyard, and very affordable. Def recommend them for budget decks. Also no Amber☹️
Doubling season was necessary in a fungus back in the days (it was a 60-card deck). Now, the are way too slow, even by putting a 4x copies of the new "Obeka, Splitter of Seconds"
Baldurs Gate gets so much hate but as someone who just started collecting over the last year. Side by side Baldurs Gate is really close to most. I'd say off the cuff rough order is Masters, Double M, and then legends. Now if you're only getting a couple packs of each sure they still hold better value. Now once you've gotten a box of each. I'd move on to Wilds, Lost Caverns, then Baldurs Gate, D n D imo. Right behind those is Neo, Phyrexia, Dominaria United, Ravniva Remastered, Dominaria Remastered, and so on. This is considering you have a generous budget or will be collecting a box here and there. Now my recommendation looks different if you're talking about more than one of each or collectors.
Ezuri, Claw of Progress loves both effects of Doubling Season! Double up on small toughness tokens to for more experience counters, which then doubles up the +1/+1 counters from the Ezuri trigger as well.
Maybe a nitpick (ha), but Cavern-Hoard Dragon is $10.00, so while definitely exponentially cheaper than Ancient Copper, not exactly what one would consider "budget"
Been working on Budget Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer and Foil seems cracked in that deck. Free counterspell that triggers synergies AND lets you cheat timing with another spell.
Tip: look up the card you want an alternative for in scryfall and click its tag that's appropriate for the effect you're looking for
Thanks a lot !
I would love a monthly series for this! Finding budget engines are always the best thing ever
Aerial Extortionist is one of the best white cards printed in the last 3-5 years. Still criminally underrated...puts in so much work. And is 4 power in the air to boot
Imo, 5 cmc is little expensive.

Aerial Extortionist and Aven Interrupter are some of my favorite cards, I like creatures so creature based removal makes me happy.

If you're looking to replicate Shadowspear's other ability, Glaring Spotlight is a fantastic (and cheap) way to do so!
Love my glaring spotlight. Use it in a few decks, but my favorite is Pir & Toothy because I can sack it to swing with a huge toothy for lethal
You can also run Bonds of Mortality, if you're in green
I love saving money on magic cards almost as much as I love Krenko, Mob Boss. Thanks for all the hot tips Miso-cat!
Scourge of Fleets has done me well for a Cyclonic Rift replacement.
Beezy: *suggests MDFCs*
Also Beezy: *hates Transformers cards even though they're fundamentally MDFCs in Disguise*
I have There and Back Again in my Sauron sacrifice deck, and having Mirkwood Bats on the field, then creating 14 treasures then sacrificing all of them is 28 damage to each opponent. Love it!
Mind blown! I have the same cards, and it didn’t register that I could do that! Thanks!
@@Sebass2021 I got you fam

Trample
Whenever Rapacious One deals combat damage to a player, create that many 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens. They have "Sacrifice this creature: Add ."
I initially read this as Rapacious Dragon and was like "alright i get the motive but he aint all that"
@@Digital_Butterfly😂 I mean it does do stuff, but yeah Rapa one was a random gem I found a long time ago while making my Duke Ulder deck
My daughter and i were playing at our flgs, and an opponent played Primal Vigor. She played Whiptongue Hydra and wiped out 11 of my faeiries, so it went from a 4/4 to a 26/26 instanly.
Lol That blue mana Pip, when your cat turned around psyched me out. I had to double take.
Same here. Glad I'm not the only one
I dislike avacyn because it feels like a "win more" card, I'd rather have moon shaker cavalry (if you can afford avacyn)
I love these videos for finding redundant effects on these expensive cards I already own
As a tokens player with access to blue, Perplexing Test is amazing at the Cyclonic impression. 5 mana is a lot to hold up but as a blue player people will expect it, then bounce all non tokens and rebuild.
Never been tempted to use Doubling Season for counter, but I'm ALWAYS tempted to use Doubling Season for token decks.
Rewind is a good budget replacement for a counterspell. While you have to pay 3 mana first it gets you 3 lands back untapped which makes it kinda free for other interactions at 3 mana.
I prefer Glimmer Lens then Chivalric Alliance. You get the 2/2 the turn You play it - so its much easier to "attack" with 2 creatures with it.
41:29 I remember when Baneslayer Angel reached 50 dollars, and people lost their minds at the price of a Standard card. 😂
Ganax can create a treasure anytime a dragon enters the battlefield.
Have fun with tokens, face breaker, etc.

Runaway Steamkin does a good substitute impression for Birgi in my izzet spellslinger deck
Shadowspear is more of a cEDH card I feel like. Just because that one mana ability is really strong… but casually that equip ability is where it’s at.
I often Play Flood of tears, then put Omniscience out... tada, all your stuff that's in your hand is now free.... put it back out. Really round about way of doing it, but it works
Profaner exploiting a Charix, the Raging Isle = basically a Cyc Rift lol I’ve been there a couple times and it felt GREAT
Is an Island orso a blue card for commandeer?🤔
surprised by no Aetherize mention for budget Cyclonic Rift .
Nerds always save the day! Last 30 mins of my day drags but when yall drop a video the day gets just a bit better! Thanks gang ❤️
Cyclonic Thrift!!!!!!
Try using Evacuation
Lol the Mana symbol on the cats biscuit
I'm surprised nobody mentions O-Naginata as a good Shadowspear budget replacement. The 3+ power requirement is trivial if your commander has that power. Shadowspear should be used on a big creature anyway.
Surprised you didn't mention Evacuation as a budget alt for Cyc Rift.
I like cyclone summoner
I run a Primal Vigor in A Greta food artifact token deck because I need both tokens and counters. It's honestly backfired about half the time but the chaos is fun 😂
15:12 No Pir, Imaginative Rascal? Or is that not budget enough?
I wonder what deck could be built using only cards from budget bomb videos
Got worst decision ever was selling my oko and shadowspear during eldraine prerelease.
It was my first set back in like 6 years and was still to out of the loop to know good cards.
You guys should make a whole video on underrated colorless cards
doubling season is a staple? I just run adrix and nev & branching evolution :/
When you're watching this video to find out if you're not missing out on some expensive Commander staples.
For a budget fetch replacement, the lord of the rings cycle cards do a really great impression such as lorien revealed or generous ent. Searches for typed lands, has extra synergy by putting something in the graveyard, and very affordable. Def recommend them for budget decks. Also no Amber☹️

great video, great budget cards
This is EXACTLY what we need! The staples get boring after a while!
Ezuri, Claw of Progress loves both effects of Doubling Season! Double up on small toughness tokens to for more experience counters, which then doubles up the +1/+1 counters from the Ezuri trigger as well.
Bounce lands are great with mdfc lands
Just wait untill we get super shadowspear, removing ward and maybe even phasing in stuff in modern horizons 3
I mean the fact that boromir can give a creature what is effecyivelt skulk is not nothing
Maybe a nitpick (ha), but Cavern-Hoard Dragon is $10.00, so while definitely exponentially cheaper than Ancient Copper, not exactly what one would consider "budget"
Or if you have any aptitude for drawing (unlike myself, lol) make your own awesome art on the back of art cards or those dual representation cards.
19:08 1 mana is not “exponentially better” than zero mana, because 1, no matter how high or low the exponent, cannot be 0. 🤪
Moxfield timestamp guess 12:34
Miso is the coolest.
Cyclonic rift is like $28 dollars I picked one up today at my lgs
Been working on Budget Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer and Foil seems cracked in that deck. Free counterspell that triggers synergies AND lets you cheat timing with another spell.
Subbed for Miso
I work at a sign/print shop, so...😅
Can you add chapters?
Or use proxies
You are on a budget? Np
You like the mid? Np
You Like High Power ? CEDH? This is what i Like
But Proxys? If you cant afford Magic dont play Magic
Complaining about words on cards is the laziest magic player trait ever. 🙄
Orrrrrr just buy $4 proxies from proxy king 😂
Some people don't wanna use proxies
Or 1$ proxys from mtg print
Unless you don't wanna use fake cards 💀
@@asdf-pd1ujI second this
I love proxy king
