  • In this video I show you guys how I use red solo cups to pot up my tomato and pepper seed starts indoors until the weather is nice enough for them to go outdoors. A lot of gardeners aren't sure what to do when their plants start to outgrow their small cell trays and the weather isn't quite warm enough to put out our warm weather plants like tomatoes and peppers. This video shows you how you can keep your seedlings growing healthy for at least another 1 to 3 weeks indoors until the weather is ready for them!!
    Here is a link I found on amazon for the most affordable red solo cups I could find (these are actually a really good price for solo cups!)

    -If you use a square bottom cup underneath, you wont need a spacer,
    OR - cut slots w a hot knife across the edge of bottom & side so cup
    can drink while sitting in a pan of liquid. I am using Ferry Morse 72 cell
    tray only to set my solos in. No undercups.

    i try to keep the top of the soil dry to stop those pesky little fly's so put water in the bottom of the second cup only & as the inner cup is clear i can see the roots & monitor how damp the soil looks

    Use the round red solo cups for the soil cup and use the square red solo cups for the bottom cup. When you insert the red round solo cup into the bottom square solo cup it automatically creates a 1/2” air space instead of using rocks or marbles.😎

    I just came upon your channel and have seen enough to subscribe. I’m on my third year of gardening and I use solo cups but I haven’t seen the double cup method and I like it. But I’m curious as to how long you have your seedlings in the smaller containers given how large they are. Is there reasons that I should know why you don’t start them in the solo cups to begin with? How long are you letting them grow indoors before you transplant them? Like your videos.

    How often do you water your seedlings in the double cup method? What about fertilizer?

    Or you can buy 3"x5" pots that are square (utilizing space) that already have holes in
    the bottom and set them in a tray. Other than saving a little money, why is this way
    any better? Basic up potting. Or am I missing something. I do that sometimes.
    I like the shorts. Where did you get them?

    scissor clipping method blew my mind, so much easier than pushing a nail through that cup base, LOL. One guy I saw on here even used a power drill to drill like 6 cups at once. One question tho - is it bad if I use kind of a bigger rock? I couldn't find small pebbles so there's a bit more space.

      No problem with using bigger rocks, probably better actually I just didn’t have access to bigger rocks at the time

    Can u use them through the summer like this if I have good base for the plant

    • @nnoble92
      @nnoble92  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just make sure you vent it properly if it gets really hot, have front door open and roll up sides a bit for extremely hot weather

    Do you ever use styrofoam cups? I think they’d be easy for cutting drainage holes?

    • @derjungemensch5902
      @derjungemensch5902 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd think that styrofoam would leak more chemicals into your plant/soil.
