Derek, that episode brings back a lot of memories. I turned 16 in 1968, and my dad had bought a brand new 1967 Pontiac and the 67 and 68 were almost identical. Well now if that’s not a real goin’ ta town rig, I don’t know what is. What a beaut! And a great runner, too! Love to see this one come back to life and get some attention and love.
The first car that I ever really worked on was a 1968 Oldsmobile 98 Regency that belonged to my buddy's grandma. It stopped running and his dad parked it behind their garage and essentially abandoned it. My buddy and I were young, about 14 or 15, and we had been looking over the shoulders of our older friends who worked on cars, so we decided to get grandma's car running. It was similar to this Pontiac in that it was an enormous land yacht. It had a big block GM V8, but in our case it was a 455. My friend and I each had some basic hand tools; a few wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and a set of SAE sockets that, between us, was complete. I couldn't believe it when we got it running! We took it for a spin around the block and when we got back to the house, Grandma was on the sidewalk, supported by her walker, and she practically cheered. She was amazed that we, a couple of kids, could get the old beast running again. She was even more shocked when I showed her that I got the front passenger side power window to work. Eventually, my buddy's dad renewed the registration and put some insurance on it and it became my friend's first real car. I don't remember all that much from that far back, but I remember the thrill the first time we took that Olds around the block.
My first time going over 100 mph was in a ‘68 Bonneville with my Dad when I was 11 in 1974. “Don’t tell your Mom.” Always loved the lines and look of the ‘68 “Bonny”, the trunk is absolutely massive, and the ride is fantastic. She’s a keeper!!

Me too! I'm kinda annoyed at everyone that wants only revivals, they gotta get fixed up to pay the bills! A good mix, like moderation in a person's life, is a good plan.
Seriously, you blow my mind with how many cars you bring back from certain scrap metal. I love what you do and I hope you always keep it up. Great job again Derek.
My Grandpa who raised me worked for Pontiac Motors for 40 years. He passed away almost 5 years ago so I loved seeing this old Bonneville brought back to life, I know he’d love to see this too!
My father started at Pontiac just after WW2. He was working on some kind of anti aircraft gun as they hadn’t transitioned back to building cars then. Grew up on Columbia across the street from the school. He had a maroon 68 Catalina then 73 and 75 Bonnevilles. There was four houses between where I grew up and the train yard and the plant.
I can’t thank a guy enough for bringing back memories of my parents Pontiac when I was just knee high to a grasshopper. Waaaay to happy you’re back on rescues, perfect😎👊🏻

I know what you mean, it’s also more difficult in the areas he is working in which makes it more fun to watch and I wish I had the money and time to go do it.
The only way to improve this would be to fix it out away from his home yard where everything is. I like the 500 miles from nowhere, middle of a field, limited tools and parts revivals. That's the primo content.

Always enjoy seeing your little helper out Turning a wrench with his pops. Takes me back to when I was that age doing the same thing. Take care and keep having fun.
I bought a '68 Catalina for 200 bucks. It had this same engine but a two barrel carb. It was a great car. I took a 25 inch color console TV to the repair shop and didn't even have to tie the trunk lid down. Just set the TV in the trunk and closed the like lol.
Almost 'same here' except mine was a '63. I bought it in 1965 when I was 18 and really loved the car,, BUT it was a 'Land Yacht' and all my buddys were driving Tri 5 Chevs and late '50's early Fords so I traded it in on a brand new '70 340/Torqueflight Dodge Dart. I liked my Dart but never forgot (even to this day at 76 yrs 'ol) how much I 'loved' that big ol gold on gold, 389ci Bonneville.

That is definitely a car that takes a little looking at to fully appreciate. It’s awesome ,the side view with the windows down , massive trunk, basically has it all.
Was just in a car wreck last night, Mother and I ended up going to the hospital. While waiting to see what's going to happen and make sure we're alright I pulled out my phone and to help calm down to get some sense back in life, knowing your antics I was delighted when I found this video. Very chill and enjoyable to watch. Been a fan for a while now but just wanted to say thanks and keep it up. Fyi, we're banged up pretty good and the car is scrap but were going to be alright. Thanks again and maybe in the future we could see big engine in the smallest car you have?
I remember in grade school, a classmate showed off his mothers Bonneville engine, trying to tell me it was supercharged ! He pointed to the A/C compressor, "see look, supercharger" ! I didn't correct him as he was so proud of it. She had the 8 lug rims. It was a beaut.
@@ViceGripGarage I'm picking up a revival on Monday, a 2 owner 77 Cordoba with 48k miles, 400 4bbl that's been sitting in a garage since the early 90's
I had a '69 Catalina, and if you _glared_ hard at the brake pedal it would about put you though the windshield. It was always great fun going from that to my aunt's '68 Nova that didn't have power brakes (or, more precisely, transitioning back to the Catalina from the Nova). I miss that old boat - taught me a lot about car maintenance, and was great fun to drive.

Derek, this episode was top notch educational comedy content. You are really able to transport that golden American Muscle Car spirit to a clueless guy in Germany.
That 68 Pontiac is in AMAZING condition! The exterior and interior are gorgeous! It sounds good, looks good, what an amazing car! I think this one deserves a nice set of tires and wheels and new exhaust and AC! You, Jessica and the little humans could really get a lot of enjoyment out of this one. My brother-in-law had a 67 this same color back in the day and it was a runner. I loved the vertical headlights on that one, but this 68 is definitely a keeper!
Me too had a 67 Catalina, (bronze w/black interior} good ol' 'Wide-track' 400, there's not a car since that I loved more than it. Changed out the big steering wheel for a smaller 'race-type' Dad laughed his ass off till he drove it and asked me why? Dad I said the other was just too clunky. Wonder if Derek would sell me this one?
This video brought me great joy and excitement. I got my driver's license in 1968 so I'm right out of this era. My dad had big GM's since the time I was a little guy and started hanging around watching him doing his own garage maintenance. I learned a lot about the GM V-8s through all those years. Dad had a '60 Buick 225, '60 Pontiac Ventura, '62 Pontiac Catalina, '64 Pontiac Bonneville, '64 Olds 98, '70 Pontiac Bonneville, and '73 Olds 98. At about that time I left home but he continued with big GM's and then switched to Lincolns in the '90s onward.

Derek, you were in RARE form for this one! LOL It seemed as though you were really enjoying this revival from the get go. That old Bonneville looks AMAZING, I'm glad you have some plans for it. Most definitely would like to see what you want to do with it, I can picture it being a great "cruiser" for the right guy and gal. One more thing that caught my eye... we've never met in person but I can see you're a "Big Bone" kinda guy by how you have struggled getting in an out of some of these revivals, but seeing you in that Bonneville with the windows down and the elbow hangin on the door sill, it looks to me like it fits you like a worn in glove. Lookin good my friend!
But the burnout, especially in this car where was the burn out? He used to give us an obligatory burnout even if he was driving the most gutless POS Chevy he could find. I think he’s one of the best guys on TH-cam but where was the burnout???

1968 was the year I was born and the old pontiac is the perfect year I love the color of the car it's just so beautiful😊
Those 60’s Pontiacs are strong runners, and real beauties too! Thanks Derek for bringing this car back to life. Fix that drivers door, put some new tires and exhaust on that thing, and take the family to town in style!
You're the King of reviving classics, just love it. Puts a big smile on my face. 😊🚗
Glad you enjoy it!
Derek, you keep doing what you love and I'll keep watching. Your humor, knowledge, & love of family makes this channel a must see destination.
"U'r project won't work, until U won't "... words 2 live by. Thx 4 da uploading of da good memories of Big Red, an old 88' Bonneville. Lil 4'6 moms brought home one day, 13 yr old me sed okay. Learned how to wrench & parallel park in good ol' Montana, w/all 'em beautiful Indianas. NOPE! Manhattan, NYC in da 90's. A lot of daily hubcap swapping in those days. Stay blessed 💯😎✌🏼
This is the bread & butter of VGG. Love the car and watching the steps to get it running. The Bonneville loves you too !
Derek is such a character that no matter what your first episode of VGG was, it's always hilarious. "WAY too much, perfect" the first time will have you rewinding like "did I hear that right?" But you still love it as you say it along after the 50th time.
I don't think his family tree has any branches...
Derek & I is planning a camping trip with that car. I betted him if we put a tarp over that trunk lid we can both sleep real comfy in that trunk without touchin each other butts... Okay folks lets do this talk Derek he is in charge till I get there with the big green tarp.
...
I find my self using his phrases like chargawhirler, lightning hoses, etc etc
i say "fuelmakeithappener" waaaaaay to much. my work hates me. but a guy dont really care. Right down the "yap" also works good
No one does this better than Derek. Im so glad he knows it’s what we love the most
we almost lost him to the television mind dungeon which sucks the soul out of everything and everyone who watches it, youre right, this IS his genre and noone does it better!
@@artlife6210 He did R.R. right, and although it must have been rough to keep every channel going at the same time, He pulled it off marvelously. The one and only Derek Bieri!
I don't know why, but there is something about this man, the way he looks at cars, talks about them and its parts, the nicknames and his gentle optimism with that soothing voice. Actually, that must be why I am subscribed now.
I really hope to see this rig some more. She really has a lot of potential.
class
She looks like a prime candidate for a proper restoration, for sure.
@@NaruSanavai that's what I'm thinking.
@@waynedavis7245 Maybe even resto-plus. Mostly factory, but some modern comforts. Derek's rig, though.
Love seeing any and all old classics up and running especially if they have not been lowered
I cant express how much I love to see your content after a long week at work, Thanks Derek have a good weekend mate!
Thanks, you too!
i couldn't agree more with this statement. great work and great job as always. thanks friend!
@@ViceGripGarage You said we should say if we wanted to see that thing again. There is no doubt whatsoever.
Aww woaw my comment got noticed and some likes, Thanks guys everyone have a great weekend 😊 and I agree with the lad above me, We wanna see more of this beauty!
Great episode, Derek! Would definitely love to see more on the Bonneville, get the gauges up and running, maybe the radio and with some new tireage, see just what she can do!
Love an old Pontiac! Thanks for keeping the old rigs alive.
I would love to see more of this car...absolutely beautiful rig
That big Bonneville has beautiful lines, and I cannot believe how rust-free the body is and the interior is NICE ! A little detailing maybe a buff out and that car is a going to town rig.👍
That's really a beautiful car.. what a find!. Before my dad passed in '92 I worked with him in his paint and body and mechanic shop from the time I was 12 or so till he passed when I was 20... this show brings back all the memories of him and myself
I think it’s your humor that makes people want to see more of these, your whole personality is great through the whole video, love you bro keep up the great work ❤
Finally a revival. This is why I started watching vice grip. Keep up the great work
Like the good old days.
Yes but the builds are good aswell, his abilities shine whatever hes doing.
Love watching your show every time it's on. I've always had a soft spot for Pontiacs. Thanks for this one. She's a keeper!
Derek, it was so fun seeing a car with crank windows again. Make her pretty and drivable, old girl deserves it.
A hard working man for sure. Dedicated father and family man. You have to have a full plate, but you continue to entertain your fans. Love the old iron and thank you for the video sir!!!
Thought we were going to see more modifications on the truck, and you surprised us with this sweet ‘68. Man, that sure is one sweet ride. I can’t get over the great shape that it’s in.
I’d love to see more of it.
Definitely want to see more of this car! Glad to see another GM B-Body saved and back on the road!
Would love to see this classic in top condition.
Me too! I'm kinda annoyed at everyone that wants only revivals, they gotta get fixed up to pay the bills! A good mix, like moderation in a person's life, is a good plan.
love how you bring these old cars back to life with out spending a ton of money or turning them in to a modern car
It's most uplifting,to see such old road warriors brought back to life again, well done, sir!
I had a 69 Catalina, loved it.
I kept a inflatable boat and small outboard in the trunk.
Good times.
I absolutely love it when Derek gets so excited when they fire off.😊
Can't wait to see more of the Bonneville, what a weapon. It wants to come back to life
Definitely want to see the next phase of this one!! What a classic!!!
I can’t thank a guy enough for bringing back memories of my parents Pontiac when I was just knee high to a grasshopper. Waaaay to happy you’re back on rescues, perfect😎👊🏻
Rescues haven't gone anywhere.
What a cool vehicle revival and drive! Derek and Jessica, you two are completely rockin' the TH-cam etc. online automotive/things that burn fuels world. You have both worked hard, paid your dues, figures it out and earned every one of your loyal, soon to be 2 million subscribers and followers. Thank you so much for saving, sharing and struttin' on the roads all of the old American/unique iron for us to watch. Keep on square-body (and other rigs) truckin'!
Thanks for the kind words
Brings back memories. My first car was a (same color) 68 Tempest 350 2 barrel power glide.
Makes me want to go out and buy an old Pontiac! Thanks Derek for the awesome content!
Derek, cruising in Doby's Taxiola~ Planes Trains and Automobiles.🤣 😁😂
Loved the revival, can't wait for next Friday and for me it doesn't matter if it's a revival, building a burnout truck, drag racing, racing in circles, honestly I'm here just to see what you are doing no matter what it is. If we're all being honest your the reason we subscribed! Thank you again for all your videos!
Whilst I always try to watch all of the content Derek makes this type is probably my favourite! Going out and fixing cars on the spot has such a charm to it
I know what you mean, it’s also more difficult in the areas he is working in which makes it more fun to watch and I wish I had the money and time to go do it.
The only way to improve this would be to fix it out away from his home yard where everything is. I like the 500 miles from nowhere, middle of a field, limited tools and parts revivals. That's the primo content.
OMG Derek .... When you were trying to get gas from the line and prat fell to the ground , i just lost it !! Your humor is so great !! You turn a rainy day into joy / fun & sun !!! U r always entertaining And we all learn along the way !!! Big fan from Toronto , Canada ☺☺☺
Did you catch the 'goin on a date' line (just before he starts siphoning)? Funniest thing I've heard him say by far, and just under the radar enough that the kids don't ask questions, perfect!
@@mysterywrecked I did , yes !! ..... the way Derek slid that in ..... the man is Comic Genus !!!! 💯❗❗❗
That's a good looking car! I love seeing the classics come back to life, keep up the good work Derek!
This was one of the best clips you've done in a while, Derek. Love these 60s Pontiac landyachts. I'd definitely like to see more of this car.
A revival? Gotta believe it, I’m looking right at it.
Another one saved and put back on the road.
Would love to see more of it down the road, she would make a great family night cruise machine .
Keep up the great work and content Derek.
Always enjoy seeing your little helper out Turning a wrench with his pops. Takes me back to when I was that age doing the same thing. Take care and keep having fun.
You got me back, 1967,68 Catalina , Bonneville, Executive , my favorite!
Love the revivals! Good to see!
So happy to see a revival show up on the old tube tonight. Thanks for making my Friday night!
Absolutely love this car!!!!!! This was the first car that I owed. Thank you .....Thank you Derek for this video. You are a automotive god 👍👍
Same here! First car was a 68 Bonneville, mine was a 4 door and i was 15 years old in 76😂
I bought a '68 Catalina for 200 bucks.
Derek your channel is inspirational , I have a 1970 Chevrolet C-10 , I bought it Labor Day weekend in 1985 , drove it to work , church etc; for years , it sits in my backyard now waiting for me & my son to restore it , thank you for sharing your videos I look forward to watching each new one . God Bless .
That is definitely a car that takes a little looking at to fully appreciate.
It’s awesome ,the side view with the windows down , massive trunk, basically has it all.
And it needs to be restored back to new
Incredible car! Whoever owned it took very good care of it. 👍 Definitely want to see more! I really miss Pontiac.
My 1st new car was a 67 pontiac catalina and this just reminded me of that good old boat. would love to see more of this car.
The guy often fixes what others can't. Makes for many instant good moods. Perfect! 😅
My favorite way to end the night with a VGG episode great job Derek
Derek every build/restoration you do is amazing definitely put the Bonneville in your shop for more work
Was just in a car wreck last night, Mother and I ended up going to the hospital.
Had you been in the big Bonneville you might have walked away. Love these old monsters of the boulevard

I remember in grade school, a classmate showed off his mothers Bonneville engine, trying to tell me it was supercharged ! He pointed to the A/C compressor, "see look, supercharger" ! I didn't correct him as he was so proud of it. She had the 8 lug rims. It was a beaut.
Love the dad vibes in this one. You are a great father sir.
I appreciate that

Back to your roots! These are my favorite videos of yours by FAR! Please never stop doing these!
I believe he’s made it painfully clear that he will not stop doing revivals..
besides the other comment, he stated in the last video that this is NOT his roots
Being a talented car whisperer Derek has many skills. For his sanity I hope he pursues his interests like racing & fabrication
Those power brakes were touchy, and all drums too on our '69 Bonneville
@@thall5783 My 69 had drums all around. She still stopped though!
Pontiac called their power steering and power brakes "Feather Touch" back then and yes, you only had to touch those things to get a reaction.
I turn 69 in a few days and my Family has had several of the vehicles you've revived on your show. I truly appreciate every episode l can snag. Very entertaining and, well....really nostalgic in many ways.
My goodness what a car. Beautiful- please do more with it. Love from the UK.
I love these old car revivals. Please show us more on this Bonneville
Derek, I love late 60's full size Pontiacs! Super unique styling... a real beautiful car! Keep er' running. Look forward to more '68 Bonneville episodes!
How many of you learned about the timing test and adjustment performed at about the 54 minute mark? Me too. Mind blown. Great video as always!
Or just do it right and use a god damn timing light for Christ’s sake.
@@Joesmusclecargarage you'll be ok!!
@@tj4ndirish I AM ok.
Adjustment yes, timing no; although I would not have thought of it as fast as big D. This dude is a top notch automotive technician 👍
@@ihavethedocuments2580 You can’t figure out what a dragging starter indicates? Factoring out heat soak, 99% of the time the timing is too advanced.
Great to see another poncho in the ol VGG!!! Looks like a solid rig overall! Always makes a fellars friday when Derek pops up on the ol u tubes!!!! Njoy your weekend Derek!!! 💯!!!!!
@@600wheel Early in the vid I think he mentioned that he doesn't actually own it, was getting it running for a friend. That said, I'm curious about his big plans for it.
@@mysterywrecked ok I will let it slide but I gotta wonder what kind of friend won’t let you do a little burnt out😂

I am a Chrysler guy to the bone but this has to be one of my favorite non Mopar cars of all time. So cool to see you revive one!
I'm recent retired Chrysler designer (38 years) and I totally agree with you. Pontiac division would have been the only other car company I would have worked for. Well, and I would have been out of a job. Lol. But you know what I mean.
Loved the Bonneville rescue. Thanks for doing another "will it run" show! They are my favorite!
