I actually always had a hard time reconciling the SA iteration of Catalina with how she is in GTA III. I know they’re supposed to be the same character, but her entire look & attitude are totally different. In SA she just seems like a crazy woman who wouldn’t have the intelligence or patience to be this scheming mastermind she is in III.
Of course because Claude wasn't in power at that time, before the events of GTA 3 took place him and Catalina were robbing banks damn near all over the country. Claude was just following her around like a puppy after it's master, he was down for whatever she wanted to do without even speaking his thoughts on the matter even if he knew it was wrong because he has a stuttering problem that is why he does not speak at all because his name means to stutter. So obviously Catalina would get tired of him at some point because he was useless to her he lacked ambition, his only purpose to her was having him around as an extra muscle to back her up while carrying these tasks just like she did with Miguel and all the others because they meant absolutely nothing to her except for Carl. Catalina was just looking for a foot in the door in the criminal underworld to rise above the ranks, to start running her own show and she got that opportunity when GTA 3 came along.

"Sorry, babe, I am an ambitious girl, and you're just a small-time!" Out of everything she's done, that betrayal was right up there with the worst. They didn't go straight to Liberty, they spent 9 years going across the whole country playing Bonnie and Clyde, probably even having to leave the country a few times. Practically a decade together, they both survived whatever was thrown at them, so Claude isn't small-time. On the upside, he's a sociopath, or has sociopathic tendencies at the very least, so this probably wasn't too heartbreaking for him. Oh, and I have an explanation for Catalina's radically different appearance between the games: extensive plastic surgery. Perhaps Claude too, but he's pretty much the same. Maybe during one job that went awry, she done the dirty work and that required a new look.
Wasn’t heartbroken? He spent almost a decade only to be a waste, after all gta 3 is all about getting revenge. That is literally what the story is about.
You can tell Catalina always loved CJ. She couldn’t stop thinking about him so she kept calling him and then once the calls stopped for good and CJ probably never knew why.

Claude was just following her around like a puppy after it's master, he was down for whatever she wanted to do without even speaking his thoughts on the matter even if he knew it was wrong because he has a stuttering problem that is why he does not speak at all because his name means to stutter. So obviously Catalina would get tired of him at some point because he was useless to her he lacked ambition, his only purpose to her was having him around as an extra muscle to back her up while carrying these tasks just like she did with Miguel and all the others because they meant absolutely nothing to her except for Carl. Catalina was just looking for a foot in the door in the criminal underworld to rise above the ranks, to start running her own show and she got that opportunity when GTA 3 came along.

Out of everything she's done, that betrayal was right up there with the worst. They didn't go straight to Liberty, they spent 9 years going across the whole country playing Bonnie and Clyde, probably even having to leave the country a few times. Practically a decade together, they both survived whatever was thrown at them, so Claude isn't small-time. On the upside, he's a sociopath, or has sociopathic tendencies at the very least, so this probably wasn't too heartbreaking for him.
Oh, and I have an explanation for Catalina's radically different appearance between the games: extensive plastic surgery. Perhaps Claude too, but he's pretty much the same. Maybe during one job that went awry, she done the dirty work and that required a new look.
Wasn’t heartbroken? He spent almost a decade only to be a waste, after all gta 3 is all about getting revenge. That is literally what the story is about.

Likely her learning about CJ success in San Andrea's such as owning a successful casino and being the manager of Madd dogg and love fist likely made her jealous which resulted in her being tired of the small scale crimes claude was likely making them do.
There's something that Catalina said during the robbery missions in San Andreas that always stuck with me. We were being chased through a wheat field on the bike, Catalina was shooting off at the mouth as well as with her gun towards the cops, and she shouted "I've keeled hundreds of peegs like you!"
