    The Cheetah is the fastest terrestrial animal on earth, capable of galloping at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The Cheetah, which was extinct in the 1950s in India, is about to make a comeback, later this year. About 10 cheetahs, 5 of them females, will be brought to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno-Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary in November 2021.
    Down to Earth is Science and Environment fortnightly published by the Society for Environmental Communication, New Delhi. We publish news and analysis on issues that deal with sustainable development, which we scan through the eyes of science and environment.

      @Didda Loha Bengal tiger has totally different ecosystem from that of Caspian tiger ( which was seen in Iran). Siberian tiger is much suitable for Iranian conditions. Iran had asked Russia for Siberian tiger to reintroduce in 2010s .
      As far as I know Iran didn't asked India for tigers . But they asked for Asiatic lion in exchange of giving asiatic cheetahs. But India declined that offer due to reluctance from Gujarat.

    • @nishchaypallav
      @nishchaypallav 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Asiatic cheetah's numbers are already too low. Unfit and too risky for reintroduction in any place. If its saved in Iran itself that would be a big deal. Also when its population over there was in good numbers, fit for reintroduction, Iran govt didn't want it to be sent to India. Africa has good number of Cheetahs hence the risk can be taken with African species. So please do some research, things don't happen just because we think it should happen that way. Real world is different.

    We have already lost a considerable population of leopards to poaching, development, destruction of their habitat. Neither we have adequate grasslands for the cheetahs nor a decent preybase. Let's hope that they don't put the life of a glorious cat at risk of getting killed by the villagers themselves.

    • @Twobirdsbreakingfree
      @Twobirdsbreakingfree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The loss of the leopards are due to one thing only: development. A more accurate word for development is "destruction" or "failure".

    • @theiqkhan1
      @theiqkhan1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Didda Loha i agree with you except that you are wrong about just the left wing being an obstruction.. the right wing is pro capitalist..the latest example of how the right wing is aiding in loss of wild life is the killing of the tigress with the two cubs just because the land on which some industrialist covettted..the diamond mining thing bunder protests that want to cut off hectares of forest for stones that can be produced synthetically is another proof of human greed.. they are already chopping off the outskirts sundarbans for resorts and farmhouses thats again capitalism and right wing
      its not the left or right wing thats responsible..
      we indians valued harmony with nature long ago
      thats been replaced with greed and hunger for power and money and in that we dont care what we do to other species or even other humans..

    In Africa, if an area has to be reintroduced with tigers and cheetahs then first smaller cats like cheetahs are reintroduced. After a couple of years when they establish a territory, larger cats like Tigers were reintroduced.
    So Kuno Palour should reintroduced Asiatic Lions a couple of years after reintroduction of cheetahs. 😁

Also, I think tigers are also not there, but I'm not totally confirmed on their presence. But yeah Lions are definetly absent.

    The Lions of Gir forest are also in grave danger and must be moved to other locations and protected regions around in India on an urgent basis. Having an entire population in one location makes no sense and poses a great risk to their survival. The Gir Lions and Cheetahs share the same semi arid lands.

Well, it's better to get one for owning nothing at all. It's an appreciative move by the Indian Governments back then and the current one for not dismissing the project.
