Hello! Question related to oil levels in a car. So if I were to check my dipstick, there are two dots on it. The dot on the left represents low, while the dot on the right represents full. Is that actually a measurement as well? I heard someone say that it represents 1 quart of oil to fill to that full point. Either 1 quart or like 1.3. If it is in fact, a measurement, it’s useful, because then I would know how much oil to top it off to.
This sensor exists on my 2008 Lexus IS250. I checked my oil with the dipstick and it was low one quart. It was due for an oil change at every 3k miles or 6 months and I was over due by a month. Anyhow I was braking sort of downhill from the freeway, it warned me for just 3 seconds and went away. Sensor works well I guess. Even with one quart or a little more low, it was able to warn me with this warning light ⚠️and a text saying “low engine oil”. After the oil change I haven’t seen it again. I will change my oil earlier next time.
Thank you for the video! Quick question, why would a low engine oil warning light occur only when crusing on the highway but then it goes away when I accelerate hard or dip the clutch? The low oil level light does not come on during idle or low speed driving.
Peter Finn thanks it turns out it was low oil. Although I had checked before when i checked again it was hardly registering on the dip stick. Now that I have topped it up the light stays off! Thanks again

Itellä pösössä (207) semmonen vika, että käynnistäessä se aina valittaa hetken sitä öljy level chekkiä, mutta sitten häviää kun ollut käynnissä puoli minuuttia? Ja mittatikun mukaan on tarpeeksi öljyä tosiaan. Tuleeko tommosesta faultista korjauskehotusta katsastuksessa, osaatko sanoa? :) Vai jätänkö huomiotta tuon ´´vian´´?
Voiko tuota töpseliä puhistella jos se valittaa väärästä öljymäärästä kokoajan, vaikka öljyä on enemmän ku tarpeeksi? Vai pitääkö koko palikka vaihtaa? Kyseessä pösö, varmaan sama tekniikka ku tässäki.
Hi Peter. great video but it was more interesting to know how to do it electrically. For example, does the resistance vary according to the position of the floating body? ....and what is the range? I have the same sensor on a Hyundai 2.2 engine of 2007 (D4EB) but trying in continuity (o ohmeter) the sensor is short-circuited... thanks for any response
I drive a Holden Astra 2008 and yesterday a few minutes before I got home it came up. I stopped my car, let it chill for 5 minutes, checked my oil and it was at a normal level. Then today I drove to work, it felt fine, after work I topped up petrol and then again a few minutes from home the light came on and I pulled up at home to check.. I'm worried!!
i would like to see Toyota add a true accurate oil level sensor on the Tacoma. it is almost impossible to get a true accurate oil level reading especially if you keep up on oil changes.

My advice: You have low oil, ADD more oil Now.
And why warning light is on and off. Oil pressure changes and oil sump is moving with accelerations.

I have a Rav4 (2003, D4D), the oil level sensor is yellow, after the motor is warmed up. The oli level is ok. Should I change the sensor?

My car has the latest in manual oil level sensors...it's called a dip stick. 😅
