I never would've thought to repair a pot with that much damage. But you're so right -- that all the flowers and plants detract from the glued-up cracks. It was also helpful to hear that you might use an entire E6000 tube in the process. Great work with the upcycling! All the mismatched planters are beautiful together.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I pulled two large, beautiful pots from someone's garbage today. I asked just to make sure it was garbage. He looked at me like I was crazy and said they are cracked. Well, they both were still standing and that's all I needed to believe I could fix them! One of them only had minor cracks! So, I'm going to use this method and some of the improvements listed below - thanks!! One man's garbage is another man's treasure! :)

Great video. Every Fall for the past 30 years I have emptied my pots and turned them upside down. I never lost a pot in 30 Canadian winters….until this year. Poor health meant I just wasn’t up to it so, after getting opinions, I emptied them but did not turn them over. I lost two beautiful planters, or maybe not….after seeing your video I’ll be out buying glue! And next fall, I’ll turn them over again even if I have to bribe the neighbours kid.
I never thought to empty the pots and turn them upside down. That’s a good idea but seems like a lot of work too- I guess all worth it if it saves the pots! Good luck wrangling the neighbor kids!

We get -30 F winters lows with windchill here in Iowa. I don’t have a ton of ceramic pots due to how pricey they are these days, but of the ones we have I’ve never experienced weather causing cracks. By the time winter comes we have the garden all cleaned up and the pots all stacked in the back of the unheated garage (used to be put in the connected storage shed before we got chickens but obviously it’s occupied now lol). Maybe it’s the stacking, maybe the garage is just enough shelter from the elements, maybe both? At some point though something either fell or got dropped on two of my ceramic pots hence why I’m here 😅 If you do it this way, I guess just be mindful of where you place them?
I've been using Shoe Goo (I think it's the same thing as E6000 made by the same company) to mend/fill pots and for any leaks in inflatables and it works great.A little tip if you don't know is that if you dampen a paper towel or rag/cloth when applying it you can "manipulate" it much easier.The adhesive reacts more like a moldable putty with the wetness and doesnt stick to the cloth.I'm going to try using it on a broken clay pot thanks to your video since the Quikrete Crack Sealer I had didn't work.Best of luck!

I use E6000 for repairing mobile phones - gluing rear cases back on after battery or screen replacements. I'd have never thought of using it for repairing cracked pots - this is a great tip!
You can spice up the pottery by adding either gold, metallic or silver metallic paint just in the cracks. It’ll make it look very beautiful! I need to do that too to a large pot that I have. Thank you for this information.😊😉
That is the Japanese way of repairing pottery called KINTSUGI to preserve old precious pieces of pottery... they fill it with gold... but the paint would look beautiful also...
do you have advice with how to store the glue tube if you dont use it all. i always think its a one time use thing because it seals itself shut everytime i use it & it drives my crazy! thank you!
I store my opened tubes in the smallest glass jar with a tight fitting lid with glue in a plastic bag with the air pushed out. I found that buying the little tube packages saves so much money. Mostly I use only a little dab except for big jobs like this repair. Also I put a pin with a decent sized head and then close the cap over it. Cut the pointy end off with wire cutters

I wonder if you can take a few steps to make cracking less likely. Although it seems there is no crack proof natural pot, understanding why pots crack might help avoid a percentage of that work. Also, healthier plants. If you improve drainage is helpful. A layer of gravel topped with landscape fabric in the bottom. Freezing water will break anything. Or Coating the inside with red guard waterproofing membrane. Raising the pots off the ground slightly (there are clay feet for this but they are a bit of a hassle) will help avoid a frozen base while the rest of the pot is warmed by the sun and cracks due to rapid, uneven expansion. Great video.
I think one of the main reasons the pots crack is leaving them out in extreme winter weather conditions. I have many pots that are just too big to move so I deal with the cracks when they happen!
Yes I don’t plant in my nice pots I plant in a liner. They last so much better. I now live where it gets iced over pond cold and I got 2 beautiful big pots at the dump and they are cracked, not broken yet. I used Flex Seal on one but it’s too ugly for outside of the pot and every year they crack more. I have lots of E6000.
I just discovered this video, and it's super helpful! After looking for a specific type of hanging wall planter for weeks, I finally found one at a ceramics market while on holiday. By the time I got home one out of two I bought has developed a crack diagonally across, underneath where it should be hung and would carry the whole weight. I'm so sad. It's not fully broken yet though, so I'm hoping generous amounts of glue might fix it. I'm wondering if there's also some types of tape or something else to add to the back to reinforce the structure to hold the weight... perhaps some masking tape that can soak up the glue? Have you ever tried something like that? Any extra advice would be much appreciated!
So glad this video helped! The only ‘tape’ I can imagine would help would be like a mesh tape like they use for drywall. but honestly, the E6000 works so well I don’t think you even need it. The pot from this video is holding strong years later!
The cracks bother me. (I do interior design) What I've learned is that if you make a mistake, make it better than it was before. For the noticeable cracks I would get paint and be creative. No need to paint the whole pot, but maybe vines or "modern" art over the cracks and keep that look all the way around. Thanks for the video!

Think I can use a piece of ceramic from a different planter that totally shattered to fill a hole similar size to what's in your blue planter? I dont have the piece that came off my planter, so I'm just hoping thinking using a different peice, maybe using my dremel to get the shape exact, and doing this method to fix it. I am repairing a favourite planter that cracked and fell apart. While gluing back together, I found some pieces are missing, so fair sized gaps and holes that need to be filled in (then painted). Would ceramic putty work or is there something better?

(like say a wooden pot?) I'm Curious because I'm wanting to turn a really cute jewelry box made of solid wood into a planter by gutting the inside out & then water proofing it. (I don't know what kind of wood it is - it is painted off white & has "Distress marks." (I can invision succulents in it so-ooo bad! 💕🥰) I'd appreciate any help/advice. This is the most adorable little wooden jewelry box! I've had it for years & funny thing.... I've never even used it for jewelry haha (I think, if memory serves I got it for my Daughter when she was young, she's 27 now). So, I already took the top off & after I remove the inside (it's like a tray with material wrapped around it). I plan to use the E6000 to glue the frame of the drawer & slide it in & that will stay put (thanks to you! 😊 I have for months been trying to figure out the best & safest way to glue it - for plants/soil to come in contact with it & also waterproof it) And, then I'll flip the top upside down & glue it on the bottom (it'll give it height - instead of just throwing it away) & the entire body including the top & bottom have a curvy design. It's just so unique, like antique looking. I wish I could show you! One more thing.... I was going to say something about Terra cotta pots in the last message.... Lol however I didn't want to come across as sounding dumb lol, because I assumed they're supposed to be waterproof lol, but.... I ordered some of those from a seller on Amazon where you get several for a really good price, right, but the thing is.... After watering my plants a few times I swear the pots are like disintegrating! (I rub my finger across the pot & the "orangey-brown" is all over my finger!) so-ooo my first thought is "Are these actually Clay pots & not Terra cotta?!" or am I stupid and Terra Cotta is clay? Now, all of my plants are indoors so I'm not worried about waterproofing all of them however, I would like to take them outdoors when the weather is nice.... The gloves I was wearing were just the latex gloves doctors use, they kind of fell apart as I went along. I think they were not the best but better than nothing!
@@rage242 so far so good. Hope my kids don’t make it fall again. The first time I tried to glue it with backing soda and super glue. It was fine until the pushed it down again. If it falls one more time, I will put an inner coat of cement .

Up cycling takes old materials and transforms them into something new and better than they were before. Both recycling and up cycling are important parts of going green and reducing your carbon footprint.🙂
Thanks for video, but think it could be a lot more instructive and detailed Just showing you jam a bunch of glue is not a “how to”. You should talk about pre-setting pieces based on angles and how they will fit. Someone could easily ruin a pot by not adhering to the proper order. You should talk about gluing options, set times, material contradictions, room temperatures, smoothing, clean-up, hand protection, etc, etc. I do appreciate the effort, but think you would get a lot more hits and likes if you really spent just a few extra minutes to add some vital details and instructions. throw it away. it will have hardened or at least coagulated by next time you need it.\

I think you can definitely put it back together, maybe work in steps gluing a few pieces at a time.
I use E-60000 for EVERYTHING. It works on every surface ever created. But I buy the large size tube.

I would say two or even more. Just keep smooshing the glue into the cracks until they seem full.

(I think, if memory serves I got it for my Daughter when she was young, she's 27 now).
So, I already took the top off & after I remove the inside (it's like a tray with material wrapped around it). I plan to use the E6000 to glue the frame of the drawer & slide it in & that will stay put (thanks to you! 😊 I have for months been trying to figure out the best & safest way to glue it - for plants/soil to come in contact with it & also waterproof it)
And, then I'll flip the top upside down & glue it on the bottom (it'll give it height - instead of just throwing it away) & the entire body including the top & bottom have a curvy design. It's just so unique, like antique looking.

One more thing.... I was going to say something about Terra cotta pots in the last message.... Lol however I didn't want to come across as sounding dumb lol, because I assumed they're supposed to be waterproof lol, but.... I ordered some of those from a seller on Amazon where you get several for a really good price, right, but the thing is.... After watering my plants a few times I swear the pots are like disintegrating! (I rub my finger across the pot & the "orangey-brown" is all over my finger!) so-ooo my first thought is "Are these actually Clay pots & not Terra cotta?!" or am I stupid and Terra Cotta is clay?
Now, all of my plants are indoors so I'm not worried about waterproofing all of them however, I would like to take them outdoors when the weather is nice.... That is my whole point of wanting to waterproof (& my little jewelry box! 🌹) & also if I do in fact have clay pots then I might need to waterproof them?

If I m not mistaken E6000 is a strong glue. & u r applying it wearing fabric gloves. Right!? How come that I wanna know... Doesn't the glue stick to the gloves!? Can this gloves be used again? Or r they some sort of special gloves??

The gloves I was wearing were just the latex gloves doctors use, they kind of fell apart as I went along. I think they were not the best but better than nothing!

@@NoelleODesigns I actually repaired my one flower vase using a hot glue gun and the music on the video . It didn’t turn out as beat as yours though.

@@rage242 so far so good. Hope my kids don’t make it fall again. The first time I tried to glue it with backing soda and super glue. It was fine until the pushed it down again. If it falls one more time, I will put an inner coat of cement .
They crack in the winter because some ceramics are porous. Water seeps in and expands, the same process causing potholes.

How long do you let the glue cure for before potting

Might be better to use a plastic pot inside rather than plant directly into a ceramic or terracotta pot. Think this will mean less cracking 😊

I put my pots insided for winter storage...then I dont have to spend so much on glue.
I would bring the pots inside but there are too many and they're huge and very heavy!
Thanks for video, but think it could be a lot more instructive and detailed Just showing you jam a bunch of glue is not a “how to”. You should talk about pre-setting pieces based on angles and how they will fit. Someone could easily ruin a pot by not adhering to the proper order. You should talk about gluing options, set times, material contradictions, room temperatures, smoothing, clean-up, hand protection, etc, etc.
I do appreciate the effort, but think you would get a lot more hits and likes if you really spent just a few extra minutes to add some vital details and instructions. Hopefully this is constructive criticism. Regards

The planters are too big to move (and too many) so they tough it out through harsh winters. In my defense, they are all at least 15 years old!😊
