I watched this and fixed a cup with the thought that I would ne back here to say its BS and doesnt last. I am....however...here to say that I have been using the cup for the last 6 weeks, run it through the dishwasher all the time, and the repair has not flinched. And I had a fairly significant crack. Normally I would just pitch a chipped cup, but this one slipped out of my hands and chipped before I even used it. The repair works and works great.
Good concept but the sand paper discolored it.looked better prior to sanding.I have a blue mug so maybe just the right food coloring in the baking soda?
Super glue and baking soda is very strong, a good repair, but after sanding it flush to the shape, i would have carefully applied a ceramic paint to seal it all in for an almost perfect repair 👍
He makes it look so easy but I gotta say that if I use my finger the way he did and does the glue and the baking soda stick to my skin. Also, the knife used to to sprinkle on baking soda got glue on it and now I've got a problem.
I have a TINY hairline crack partway down a $40 stoneware cup and was thinking of just smearing some superglue on there. I’m wondering if that’s going to be food safe for use with hot coffee?
Fixed chips in pieces of Franciscan Desert Rose ceramics. Not quite invisible but MUCH better. I suggest wearing gloves and having a bottle of rubbing alcohol handy.
Super glue is toxi but the name brand Krazy glue is not as it was originally intended to be used during the war to hold deep gashes together and stop bleeding. Till it could be looked at after out of danger. And is still taught in higher level first aid courses. But im not sure how it would do being heated and cooled repeaditly
It ok but as long u don’t drink from it u know that glue is no good for nothing that u gona use to drink or eat out of it for instance if u fix a chip from a plate , I won’t do that glue is hazardous
After doing all the steps in this video, shaping it nicely around the repair, try to find a ceramic paint in the same colour, or close as you can find, and carefully apply it, covering the repair and sealing it for a lasting repair. A hobby shop should have a good choice of colours, cheap, in those little pots 👍
Yes it's fine to use repaired bowls in the microwave, the largest chip I filled in is 15x10mm and had no issues. Moisture might effect it. Microwaves vibrate water which results in heat. It's best not to soak the area and use in the microwave, no toxic fumes will result but the repair might break.
@@EverydayFunny1992 No, definitely not. The plastic starts breaking down at such high temperatures, so this is definitely not usable for anything that goes into the oven.
He could, and should, have applied some ceramic paint, sealing it in for a lasting repair, imo. That would be my only criticism here, very strong repair though
Uufff i accidentally broke my madam favourite bowl and that was new.that's why i run here to find a solution on how to fix it or else I'll be a dead meat! I have that baking soda but i don't have that super glue! Daymn!
A plain mug does. You go to Starbucks to get a Starbucks mug and it's more than that. I've had a Christmas starbuvks mug I've used for years and id repair it if it got chipped. It is a limited edition though, not just a plain logo bug like this that can be replaced
I think this video was made to feature an ingenious method on how to repair a broken porcelain mug regardless if the cost of the cup is $2 or $1000 ...

Appreciate the long term update, was about to call bs on this too because it felt too good to be true! 😅
Thank you so much!! This was so easy and effective - I can't even tell where the chip was!! Childhood treasure restored to new life 😊

Is it safe to use strong glue? How long will the sealed area last?
Cheap fixed, with great results...thanks! 🗽

What powder do u use
If the crack is on the inside of the cup will it be safe to drink from after the repair?
It's ok, but it will become yellow in a couple of weeks. Maybe it's the glue, the soda or both.
Can you still use this in the microwave?
Thank you, thank you, thank you !! Perfect fix and my chip was a bit larger. Cannot even tell.
How's it doing now?? Discoloured yet or not???
Wonder if it'll yellow with time. Doesn't super glue yellow over time?

Why not use epoxy putty?
love it. very simple and easy to follow. direct to the point.
😮👏👏
Dang homie! That music didn’t have to go that hard… I’m over here getting down to you fixing that mug!
😂
I personally would not reuse that mug for hot beverages or put it in a microwave. I believe when heated the glue will give off toxic fumes.
I wouldn't use it at all, super glue is definitely not food safe
How long do you set it set before you begin cutting and sanding?
Good job. Very useful. I wonder if the chip suddenly stands out when wet?

Try the milk method. Search “milk method to repair hairline crack.”

Super glue isn’t food safe 😢
worked like a charm!
never cut toward yourself. Come on, boyscouts 101!
Ewww!!!!!!
That's what they tell 6 year olds. If you cut towards yourself using your thumb as a lever it's actually far safer. You have way more control.
What James said
The restored chip with baking soda will turn yellow after how many days and will eventually fall of. Will not last actually.
Wow I use bsoda for lots of stuff but didn't knw this wow awesome
I want those 3 minutes of my life back.
what if there goes a crack from that chip all the way to the bottom?
Thank you. Have one thing to ask. Would the use of superglue make the ware be food safe?
I've used superglue to repair items used in food and drinks and haven't had an issue.

Very helpful video. Thank you. Have you tried an emory board to smooth out the dried mixture?
I had the same thought, so I tried both an emery board and fine-grain sandpaper, and I got better results with the sandpaper.
What did u dip the sandpaper in???? Please tell
It will be water as in when you wet sand.
Nice quick fix
Wow! Nice and easy. Thank you.
What about for colored mugs?

Did this work for anyone? Mine doesn't look white or that good after trying this.
Gonna try this but lets see how it holds up to the dish washer

This won't last very long. I have one mug that I've repaired this way and it falls off over time.
