Definitely vouch for Herman Miller. It’s a lot of money but I’ve had my Embody since 2017 and besides needing a clean it’s held up like it’s brand new.

I second that, have had my Aerons for almost 20 years, changed a couple of pneumatic cylinders and mesh seats, but since they still make spare parts it’s no problem.
A self cleaning chair would be a killer though ;)

I can totally get on board with that note taking paradigm. I use paper for quick notes, or tracking components I touch when building Salesforce, or whatever. Things I won't care about tomorrow. Then they get cleaned and organized into my permanent documentation at the end of the day.

I think you minimalist desk setup is lovely! That's precisely what I love about the minimalist desk setup. Having really just what I am actively trying to do or accomplish in one easy flow state. I am a big sling bag kind of person and love just taking the one bag and then getting to my desk and doing what I need to and then that's it. Just my M2 MacBook is enough for all my work.

For a desktop, it honestly depends on the os. Mac Studio for MacOS, a full spec’ed out mini itx build for windows. Both would work great with small spaces.
I have a mini itx build and I know how good the upgrade path, connectivity and doing the troubleshooting yourself is. It’s not plug and play, that’s about the only shortcoming.

Because of Apple Silicon, I would highly recommend just getting a laptop instead of a desktop. It is much more convenient having just one computer for everything than having a separate desktop computer. Plus, with Apple Silicon, the performance is almost identical as well. The only benefit for something like a Mac Studio would be lower cost (but not really since you would need a separate laptop), and if you want the "Ultra" chip. Also, it sounds like you really want at least the "Max" version not the "Pro."

I actually just went through something similar, Laptop or Mac Studio. I updated my M1 Pro to an M3 Max with all the memory it could hold. I also went to 16 inch version. I might in the future get a Mac Studio if I need it, but I like having a single Laptop that can support up to 4 displays if I ever need it.

My guess would be that an m3 max would be more cost effective than a similarly-priced PC given how much dedicated hardware it’s got for encoding and other video-editing tasks. Have you done a benchmark recently? Keep in mind the M1 Pro is 3 years old at this point, and it wasn’t top of the line when it was new. It just seems like getting a PC into this setup is going to complicate it a lot

  • @SamFigueroa
    @SamFigueroa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I also recently went to just Apple Notes. I was on Evernote but the recent price hike just didn't feel right with me. Transition was actually a lot easier than I thought. And yeah, same here, my editing PC is pretty much just for occasional gaming now.

Fewer screens = better sleep, imho.
    I had a 3-screen FCP X setup for years, 1 x 27-inch 2011 iMac, and 2 x old Samsung 19-inch from the early 00s.
Then one of the Samsungs blew, and I replaced it with a newer Samsung 17-inch, and I immediately noticed that my sleep quality was going to hell.
After a few months, I removed the new 27th inch; immediately, my sleep improved, so I removed the remaining 19-inch screen as well.
Now I'm down to just the 27in, and sleep, general concentration is generally better, and I don't get that 'burned in' dopamine feeling as if my brain is being branded by a bunch of hot pixels.
It's not bad once you get used to a single-screen FCP X setup.
I can always strap on the old 19in Samsung for a big project but haven't felt the need so far...

2:59 speaking on this point, i've not been able to get on with some editing for a few months now, and so i'm more behind than ever
gonna jump from an intel based 2018 MacBook Pro to a mid-range Mac Studio, but since it's rumoured Apple will update this at WWDC like they did last year, i've been holding off putting in my order in order to make the upgrade the most bang-for-my-buck possible, leapfrogging the M1, M2 lineup and landing comfortably on M3, though now i actually wonder if my patience will have paid off as i suspect the jump will actually be to M4 after that keynote on tuesday 🤷🏻‍♂️

3:00 Sara, get this from a Apple Sales Professional; get the M3 Max MacBook Pro. When the Mac Studio and the MacBook Pro both had the fast M2 Max the performance delta was marginal. At this point in time, the even faster M3 Max is only available in the MacBook Pros. PLUS it sounds like your need for a faster computer is urgent so don't bother waiting for the M3 Mac Studio and get the MacBook Pro! :)

Have a m1 mbp max 64 gb I got new a yr ago at adorama for 2299. Grt deal and no reason to upgrade. Unless you do crazy intensive (We own an agency so Adobe / FCP) no need to upgrade. Love Apple but if someone does intensive 3d I still think pc will always be better for that but again I am talking avout very high end. Apple I believe is having issues with mac sales and it probably is because the m chip was made too good if that makes sense. In the end ot is the least they could do given you can not upgrade anything. Interested how using the laptop in front of the monitor. I hace tried doing that multiple times and in the end you get the same back / neck isuues looking down so much. Great setup!
