Definitely vouch for Herman Miller. It’s a lot of money but I’ve had my Embody since 2017 and besides needing a clean it’s held up like it’s brand new.
I second that, have had my Aerons for almost 20 years, changed a couple of pneumatic cylinders and mesh seats, but since they still make spare parts it’s no problem. A self cleaning chair would be a killer though ;)
I can totally get on board with that note taking paradigm. I use paper for quick notes, or tracking components I touch when building Salesforce, or whatever. Things I won't care about tomorrow. Then they get cleaned and organized into my permanent documentation at the end of the day.
I think you minimalist desk setup is lovely! That's precisely what I love about the minimalist desk setup. Having really just what I am actively trying to do or accomplish in one easy flow state. I am a big sling bag kind of person and love just taking the one bag and then getting to my desk and doing what I need to and then that's it. Just my M2 MacBook is enough for all my work.
I’ve been Moleskine hoarding myself… I have soooo many, now I just need to just let go of past life drama, and start putting pen to paper with planning g and ideas with my photography hobby slash future hussle….;) and…. Ohhhh Happy early….Mothers Day!!
I have the Sayl chair and I absolutely love it! The office where I work has them and I liked it enough I decided to upgrade my home office chair and I'm so glad I did!
Good to see you back up and running. Congrats on the new baby! She’s a doll. I’m trying to grow my church U Tube page. My desk remains a tornado. i enjoy the show!
Having the MacBook display underneath which has smaller secondary apps easy to see and not taking space off the larger display certainly boosts productivity.
In the case of Apple Silicon, the MacBooks are still very powerful. But, I guess if you need an M1 Ultra, that would be a good reason to get a Mac Studio.
I love these types of videos. Your setup is really close to mine. TOTALLY AGREE on the time pressure leading to extreme productivity. So much so that I feel really unproductive when I don't have that time crunch.
Great video! Always love a desk tour. Someone has probably already commented this, but if you want to switch to the Mac Studio but still want a trackpad, there's always the magic trackpad. I switched to it a few years ago and haven't looked back!
I’ve been needing a new office chair so bad and just impulse bought the Aeron bc of you! Been rocking a $100 amazon chair that doesn’t roll straight for 5 years and I stand it anymore 🤣 thanks for the code!!
I love the set up and it definitely looks minimalist to me. I think maybe I need a smaller desk so I won’t keep as much junk on it. It really does make you prioritize can take up that limited real estate.
For a desktop, it honestly depends on the os. Mac Studio for MacOS, a full spec’ed out mini itx build for windows. Both would work great with small spaces. I have a mini itx build and I know how good the upgrade path, connectivity and doing the troubleshooting yourself is. It’s not plug and play, that’s about the only shortcoming. Great seeing you back, btw!
Because of Apple Silicon, I would highly recommend just getting a laptop instead of a desktop. It is much more convenient having just one computer for everything than having a separate desktop computer. Plus, with Apple Silicon, the performance is almost identical as well. The only benefit for something like a Mac Studio would be lower cost (but not really since you would need a separate laptop), and if you want the "Ultra" chip. Also, it sounds like you really want at least the "Max" version not the "Pro."
I think that perhaps you should be sending yourself an invoice for your own self-consultation! Talking through it allows you to process your decisions much faster than I can! Well done!
I used to use All in One PCs for minimalist purposes but I found it limiting. I decided to do a mini ITX PC build and it is so much better. Takes up very little space. I have seen several friends move from Apple to full PC builds for creative content.
I actually just went through something similar, Laptop or Mac Studio. I updated my M1 Pro to an M3 Max with all the memory it could hold. I also went to 16 inch version. I might in the future get a Mac Studio if I need it, but I like having a single Laptop that can support up to 4 displays if I ever need it.
My guess would be that an m3 max would be more cost effective than a similarly-priced PC given how much dedicated hardware it’s got for encoding and other video-editing tasks. Have you done a benchmark recently? Keep in mind the M1 Pro is 3 years old at this point, and it wasn’t top of the line when it was new. It just seems like getting a PC into this setup is going to complicate it a lot
I also recently went to just Apple Notes. I was on Evernote but the recent price hike just didn't feel right with me. Transition was actually a lot easier than I thought. And yeah, same here, my editing PC is pretty much just for occasional gaming now.
Fewer screens = better sleep, imho. I had a 3-screen FCP X setup for years, 1 x 27-inch 2011 iMac, and 2 x old Samsung 19-inch from the early 00s. Then one of the Samsungs blew, and I replaced it with a newer Samsung 17-inch, and I immediately noticed that my sleep quality was going to hell. After a few months, I removed the new 27th inch; immediately, my sleep improved, so I removed the remaining 19-inch screen as well. Now I'm down to just the 27in, and sleep, general concentration is generally better, and I don't get that 'burned in' dopamine feeling as if my brain is being branded by a bunch of hot pixels. It's not bad once you get used to a single-screen FCP X setup. I can always strap on the old 19in Samsung for a big project but haven't felt the need so far...
2:59 speaking on this point, i've not been able to get on with some editing for a few months now, and so i'm more behind than ever gonna jump from an intel based 2018 MacBook Pro to a mid-range Mac Studio, but since it's rumoured Apple will update this at WWDC like they did last year, i've been holding off putting in my order in order to make the upgrade the most bang-for-my-buck possible, leapfrogging the M1, M2 lineup and landing comfortably on M3, though now i actually wonder if my patience will have paid off as i suspect the jump will actually be to M4 after that keynote on tuesday 🤷🏻♂️
I just went through a similar process. I sold my desktop and traded in my M1 Pro MBP 14 for the M3 Pro MBP 14 and got rid of the desktop clutter. I keep my laptop closed and connected to a 28" Samsung 4K monitor and the usual peripherals.
Love the video! I’m curious about how you are dealing with a task list now. Are you just using Reminders or a checklist in Apple Notes? Also how are you using Apple Notes in terms of the types of things you store there?
I have embraced the maximalist vibe since I enjoy more retro styling. The embody chair has been on my list for a while but I just bought an Ipad pro so my staples chair that I got 4 years ago will have to do hang on just a bit longer. But $400 off is tempting....
Mac Studio with Max instead of a desktop? It's far smaller than a normal desktop. You can also buy an apple touchpad as a separate input instead of a mouse (or as well as).
Why do you need to upgrade your M1 Pro? It should be very powerful for the majority of tasks. You can close the lid and still use a trackpad. Just get a Magic Trackpad.
Using a Mac Mini M2 on my L desk. Takes up little space and has plenty of guts for editing with Resolve studio. Also use a M2 Macbook Pro for working out on the front porch.
I have the same Studio Display with nano texture. And like you a cat also. I’m always terrified thinking what if my cat decides to scratch my nano texture display. Will it be damaged? Do cats do that??
3:00 Sara, get this from a Apple Sales Professional; get the M3 Max MacBook Pro. When the Mac Studio and the MacBook Pro both had the fast M2 Max the performance delta was marginal. At this point in time, the even faster M3 Max is only available in the MacBook Pros. PLUS it sounds like your need for a faster computer is urgent so don't bother waiting for the M3 Mac Studio and get the MacBook Pro! :)
If you like the second screen, and you don’t wanna add a second one to the side. Then get an upgraded MacBook. That’s one computer only. And you can take it with you.
hi Sara, would you switch to Adobe Premiere since you are changing to a PC? btw I love your videos, you and Jon have inspired me to start my youtube tech channel (a bit different then yours). Keep up your amazing work!
What happened to the Desk Top computers you had in New York, I remember you had some nice Desk Top computers back then, okay while I'm typing this I realized maybe there just too old. Technology doesn't move that fast .... does it 😱😂😂😂 I love how happy you looked typing numbers on your calculator 👍
0:26 I listened to this the first time. So, I just now noticed and had to zoom in to make sure that was Jonathan sitting at the other desk and not a trompe l’oeil caused by a plant -a chia Jonathan head?- and a casually draped tee or something. LOL spoiler: it’s Jonathan. I’ll clean my glasses, don’t worry.
Have a m1 mbp max 64 gb I got new a yr ago at adorama for 2299. Grt deal and no reason to upgrade. Unless you do crazy intensive (We own an agency so Adobe / FCP) no need to upgrade. Love Apple but if someone does intensive 3d I still think pc will always be better for that but again I am talking avout very high end. Apple I believe is having issues with mac sales and it probably is because the m chip was made too good if that makes sense. In the end ot is the least they could do given you can not upgrade anything. Interested how using the laptop in front of the monitor. I hace tried doing that multiple times and in the end you get the same back / neck isuues looking down so much. Great setup!
I’ve had my $70 office chair since 2017 , it’s held up like it’s brand new
@@loot-1998 Sometimes it’s more about the people and how they handle stuff :)
Here’s my minimalist desk setup
**Pans to the right** John with just a laptop 😂
The picture quality of this video is top notch. Looks almost HDR in my TV.
I can totally get on board with that note taking paradigm. I use paper for quick notes, or tracking components I touch when building Salesforce, or whatever. Things I won't care about tomorrow. Then they get cleaned and organized into my permanent documentation at the end of the day.
I'm pretty sure minimalist environment help concentration and improve productivity because of the organisation needed. Well done!

DO ITTTTT
Love this desk setup! I really need a minimalist-refresh of my workspace! Glad to hear you and baby are well :)
And I thought it was only my brain that didn't understand that "minimalist" doesn't equal "temporarily organized"
I have the Sayl chair and I absolutely love it! The office where I work has them and I liked it enough I decided to upgrade my home office chair and I'm so glad I did!
Herman Miller chairs are the bomb. I have an Aeron and it's incredible.
I found the Aeron a little uncomfortable, but I like the all mesh look of it. However, I'm greatly enjoying my Gaming Embody.
I’m so glad you are doing well and baby has gotten out with you!❤
Good to see you back up and running. Congrats on the new baby! She’s a doll. I’m trying to grow my church U Tube page. My desk remains a tornado. i enjoy the show!
You did a great video , I appreciated that you changed from multitasking to single tasking time for family and time for work.
Having the MacBook display underneath which has smaller secondary apps easy to see and not taking space off the larger display certainly boosts productivity.
i love it and i agree that having a big space only makes you add more crap! glad to see you doing great !!
Sara is back!
I still find that true as well; no matter how powerful your laptop is, a desktop is just always nicer for heavy workloads.
In the case of Apple Silicon, the MacBooks are still very powerful. But, I guess if you need an M1 Ultra, that would be a good reason to get a Mac Studio.
Just ordered a desk and chair from Herman Miller using your promo code! Thanks for the inspo, Sara! :)
I love these types of videos. Your setup is really close to mine. TOTALLY AGREE on the time pressure leading to extreme productivity. So much so that I feel really unproductive when I don't have that time crunch.
One of your best videos in a while :) I love it!
Great video! Always love a desk tour. Someone has probably already commented this, but if you want to switch to the Mac Studio but still want a trackpad, there's always the magic trackpad. I switched to it a few years ago and haven't looked back!

Omg enjoy 🥺🥺🥺
Hope your feeling good. I have a bunch of rental properties and I find the simpler I make them, the better they work for me.
the production quality on this video was amazing!
I love the set up and it definitely looks minimalist to me. I think maybe I need a smaller desk so I won’t keep as much junk on it. It really does make you prioritize can take up that limited real estate.
So pumped for life organization stuff!
You can try going for an Mini-ITX PC to save space but hey Mac Studio is also a good option for your minimal desk vibe.
Minisforum can be an option too, Wendel from L1T tested some impressive little machines!
Herman Miller is like having a ferrari, not really required to complete your setup but it's definitely a nice-to-have more than a necessity.
Not required, sure, but I've heard the Embody is the best chair for preserving chiropractic adjustments.
Scarlet Witch is back on Earth 616❤
M3 Max is a beasttttttttttttt
Love the DJI Mic! If you want DJI also sells a minimalist LAV you can pair it with the DJI Mic to make it easier to conceal and get better audio 🤌🏼
love this setup!
Great desk tour Sara! I think a minimalist desk setup was the right way to go.
Because of Apple Silicon, I would highly recommend just getting a laptop instead of a desktop. You gotta upgrade the wheels to the roller blade wheels and make sure you protect those floors!
I used to use All in One PCs for minimalist purposes but I found it limiting. I decided to do a mini ITX PC build and it is so much better. Takes up very little space. I have seen several friends move from Apple to full PC builds for creative content.
Judy lookin real chill!

I love my mac studio M2. I'd try to wait for the next version though, it should be coming out soon.
I'm on that Laptop down and screen up front lately and I'm lovin' it 👏🏼

Nods in agreement from within my Herman Miller Aeron (best Covid lockdown purchase I made).
Wait for the M4 in the Mac Studio, and who knows we know more at WWDC
Fewer screens = better sleep, imho.

I can always strap on the old 19in Samsung for a big project but haven't felt the need so far...
"ah, that customer service number, the good old days" 😂
Great job. We all grow. LOL. Your old setup used to trigger me. Enjoy your work and ho[e LA is treating you well.
😂😂
Nice set up and video! For the PC you could go for ITX staff, lots of small powerful and not super expencive options
You can buy Magic Trackpad for Mac Studio or for closed MacBook setup
11:20 Whyyy oooh whyy? Now I have to buy one ! Damn it !
i have got the Herman miller sayl chair . already , i have to say its a lovely chair.(got it for free --->> helping a friend)
Definitely wait for the M4 chip to come to Mac before you upgrade. The M4 is gonna be huge performance leap from the M3
2:59 speaking on this point, i've not been able to get on with some editing for a few months now, and so i'm more behind than ever
gonna jump from an intel based 2018 MacBook Pro to a mid-range Mac Studio, but since it's rumoured Apple will update this at WWDC like they did last year, i've been holding off putting in my order in order to make the upgrade the most bang-for-my-buck possible, leapfrogging the M1, M2 lineup and landing comfortably on M3, though now i actually wonder if my patience will have paid off as i suspect the jump will actually be to M4 after that keynote on tuesday 🤷🏻♂️

I missed these kinds of videos. The Mac Studio sounds like the better option for you.
I love raising desk. I have one myself.
Love the video! I’m curious about how you are dealing with a task list now. Are you just using Reminders or a checklist in Apple Notes?

Hi Sara…will there be an updated Infinity Stand for the 2024 M4 iPads?? Thanks!
Good desk tour!
Sara i love your desk setup
Mac Studio with Max instead of a desktop? It's far smaller than a normal desktop. You can also buy an apple touchpad as a separate input instead of a mouse (or as well as).
Say what you want about Herman Miller, but you can’t deny their chairs are some of the best
Love ❤this video I’m taking notes 📝 you ROCK 🪨⚡️❤️🤙
Nice setup. I now need to redo mine.
Your setup looks a lot like mine these days, I just got an oak desk shelf and a Herman Miller Embody!
Ayooo, Team Herman Miller 🤘
I can't justify spending as much on my chair as I did on my pc
Go for the Mac Studio. You won't be disappointed.
Love the yap. ✨
Why do you need to upgrade your M1 Pro? It should be very powerful for the majority of tasks. You can close the lid and still use a trackpad. Just get a Magic Trackpad.
Great Desk! I think you should definitely go with the Mac Studio.
Mac Studio is a powerhouse but MacBook is more versatile and you basically get 2 for 1 since you can take it with you.
Indeed. Even to this day, a M1 Max is a portable power house.
Nice minimalist desk setup!
Great Video! i really think you should get a mac studio tho
Do you think that you use the track pad on the Mac more because the software for mouse support on a Mac isn't as good as it is on windows?
Using a Mac Mini M2 on my L desk. Takes up little space and has plenty of guts for editing with Resolve studio. Also use a M2 Macbook Pro for working out on the front porch.
I wish my set-up looked as clean as yours
I have the same Studio Display with nano texture. And like you a cat also. I’m always terrified thinking what if my cat decides to scratch my nano texture display. Will it be damaged? Do cats do that??

you go Sara!
hi Sara, would you switch to Adobe Premiere since you are changing to a PC? btw I love your videos, you and Jon have inspired me to start my youtube tech channel (a bit different then yours). Keep up your amazing work!
i cannot wait to buy my own home just so i can get my desk set back up properly how i want it
Wait out WWDC 2024 and see if there's a next Mac Studio with possibly an M3 Ultra or M4 Ultra chip.
Will you review Surface Laptop Studio 2? Rly like that one.
Nice vids btw🥹
Never clicked on a video so fast
What is the lowest height seeting for the Jarvis Bamboo Desk? I am only 5'4" tall so most of these types of desk are inch or two to tall for me.
Sara you are very beautiful ❤. More I watched your video, more I fall in love with you again. Stay blessed. ❤
Can you please link that USB C to display port cable
same setup here with laptop opened without extra keyboard and mouse
Do you know which video will get more viewers based on content? Or is it hard to predict?
But what’s your take on the new iPads??????
0:26 I listened to this the first time. M4 max laptop is gonna killer
Hello, Congratulations Cool👍👏👏👏
