Wil Roget the great game composer used a ton of prepared strings in one of his Call of Duty soundtracks. Real nice that you are covering this. Prob cool for ambient tracks too! ❤
I love physical modeling. So much that I have built a site featuring over 200 physical modeling vst plugins. I can't link it here because TH-cam don't like that. This plugin, Preparation 2 is one of the most known and with one of the most common approach I would say. Strings and metallic sounds seems to be a common theme.
I've always been tempted by their other plugins because they include springs and I enjoy spring reverbs. It looks like all of their plugins are on sale right now, I might have to go for it.
i looked into modus before, they do interesting stuff. maybe not always the most practical, but pretty unique and innovative, iirc they came out of a research project. i should look if they published any papers
I like the different approach, super intuitive and easy to get into. Some physical modelling stuff can be very daunting for newer folks. Interesting I’ll look into that too
@@zero2herobeatspaul882 ah I see that now. Whether that was there before and I missed it or otherwise, it is not advertised anywhere too clearly. That's good to know though, thanks!
i think Objekt by Reason studios goes deeper into the controls and possibilities (but it seems similar and maybe a bit easier to use. Too bad u need the whole reason rack , i dont think its available in VST , i mean, alone.
Is this one a continuation of the Modus plugin? It seems they are similar, but instead of grouping the algos together, they separated them into two plugins
Aah, but if you could only buy one of their plugins, would you choose Preparation2 or Modus? I'm always looking for new sources of ambient plucks, and I'm interested in timbral variety mostly, getting a sense that perhaps we don't get *that* much of a range here (as would be typical of physical modeling plugins I know, such as Chromaphone). Really liking the interface and your presentation, but far far will it go?
Most other physical modelled plugins focus on just the acoustic properties of the resonator, and not any added objects so I'd say Preparation 2 is unique in that aspect.
Picked up Preparation 2 a month ago and tbh find it underwhelming. It has a very narrow sweet spot which is essentially slight variations of the default patch. I'm either getting chorus-y pluck sounds or atonal drones, not much else. But cool video nonetheless!
Well it is a string modeller, so plucks and bows is about it, but there’s a ton of variation in the overtones. Check out the yuck start guide if you haven’t, it makes a few concepts more clear. You def don’t want to approach this like other plugins workflow.
Heads up if using Cubase. This Intrument just crashes the DAW instantly when opening it. I've contacted their support. Now we wait.. Edit - *SOLVED* Just installing the latest C++ was the fix. (but in my case it just said repair as I was already running the latest C++)

I designed the GUI glad you enjoyed the plugin sounds great!
Gui looks clean
Great job!
@@DashGlitch thank you! :)
Yeah the UI seems super clean. That's makes exploration sooo much easier to do
modern clean and cool at the same time
Physical modelling is ripening up nicely.
Indeed it is!
And physical audio is the royal gardener of physical modeling

You had me at "MPE". Would love to play this from my Osmose!

❤ dang cool. Their other physical modelling vst, Modius sounds awesome too.
Indeed it does! I love how intuitive the stuff is too

the bow algorithm sounds beautiful and looks super fun to perform
It’s very clever because it feels like playing a bowed string (notes in one hand and articulation in the other)

@@DashGlitch much prefer it to yet another serum clone for sure
the dark ambient enjoyer in me just had a religious experience.
wish there was an upgrade for Preparation 1 owners, sounds cool
I thought it was a little weird I didn't see a Preparation 1 on their site. That's pretty lame
There is a 50% discount. It says so at the bottom of the product page.
@@Emily_M81 Preparation 1 is available as a free legacy plugin on the download page.

It would be hilarious if they made a plug-in called John Cage and the presets were silence or an MK soundboard

Very cool. Only having two strings, is that limiting at all?
Not at all, that’s just per voice and iirc it can do 7 voices, so 14 strings in total :)
Is this one a continuation of the Modus plugin? It seems they are similar, but instead of grouping the algos together, they separated them into two plugins
The explanation is at the beginning of the video :) this is for prepared strings and tines, modus is for springs and plates
@@DashGlitch oof my bad, I missed that part lol. Thanks!
this is cool
*Googles John Cage* ohh shit, bro is also a sound designer...
Edit: acoustic sound desiner I guess, that sounds cool!
haha yep, the OG sound designer xD
Way more fun to set up record physical objects, but still..
It always is, but not always practical. I have a dot apprehension engine and this remind me a lot of how lying it
