Just found your TH-cam channel. Thank you for providing all this knowledge out here for those of us who cannot afford going to a specialist to get all this information.
Unfortunately, these days, most information about ADHD is based on TikTok videos and memes, or people diagnosed with ADHD sharing their stories, which can be helpful to identify similarities and how other people with ADHD handle those situations that they end up in.
But the scientific explanations, and just the information delivered from a professional point of view helps me to truly understand ADHD.
I would love more information regarding medicine tolerance and what would be appropriate to do in those situations.
I've been taking Methylphenidate for 3 years now. Currently taking 90mg Concerta in the morning, and 36mg Concerta + 10mg Ritalin in the afternoon. But I kinda feel like the effect has plateaued. Of course it still has some effect, but some of the symptoms that I experienced before medication, are coming back. More restless/fidgety, my mind is wandering more and more, it's getting harder for me to start and finish things, and I feel like the effect is "out of the system" earlier and earlier throughout the day.
Since my dose of Concerta is already pretty high, we've reached a point where we cannot really add more of it without the side-effects are overshadowing the advantages.
So.. I have read that some people change medications, but is that actually a solution? if I changed from Methylphenidate to amphetamine, would I feel any difference, since they are both stimulants? Or.. Are there different types of methylphenidate medicine, and changing from one "brand" to another would be enough?
Or do you have any recommendations/experiences with going from Stimulants to Non-Stimulants or Alpha-2 Agonists, and which one has the best outcome for adults with ADHD?
Of course, in the end, I would have to go to a specialist, but I am just very curious about the experiences with this topic from a professional point of view?
Hope you could talk about that at some point.
Again, thank you so much for all the information you share! I'll be looking into as much of it as possible that I find relevant for my situation,

Thank you Dr Barkley for sharing your expertise and knowledge for free on TH-cam. Here in the UK, my experience interacting with medical practitioners both in our health service and in private practice has been highly variable in terms of their knowledge of ADHD in adults and its treatment, beyond medication. Your lectures are an invaluable resource for adults with ADHD such as myself who wish to educate ourselves so that we may understand and live with this disorder to our greatest capacity. The positive impact to my life and undoubtedly many others has been transformative. Thank you.

Hey Doc, I'm 25, diagnosed 4 months ago. I'm taking modafinil, what do you think about that? I know FDA didn't approved yet, and it's really working

Be careful with self-medication. The potential for misuse and abuse is much higher without medical supervision.
