    I'm an environmentalist, and an activist myself. But here's the difference - I went to school to become a dietitian so I could make my life's work showing people how to eat a healthy diet, whilst reducing their impacts on the environment and animals as much as possible. I didn't just decide one day, "I think I'll block the road to make people stop needing to fill their cars with petrol, and then I'll go in a steakhouse and shout at people for eating veal." Life is very seldom so cut and dried. We should strengthen our powers of persuasion, via logic and intellectual rigor; for if lacking those qualities, the public will summarily dismiss the message, and rightly so.

    • @TheSaintFrenzy
      @TheSaintFrenzy ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Using natural resources is a MORAL GOOD.
      We are privileged to forget what life was like for mankind before the use of natural gas, coal and oil. No way do I want to go back. The way forward is technology and innovation.

    • @_The_Specter_
      @_The_Specter_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @jimm8745 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheSaintFrenzy Who is suggesting that we have to go back to what society was like before the usage of gas, coal and oil? It's not like all development in the last 150 years will disappear because we stop using them. Green industry has been built and developed using fossile fuels, but we are everyday moving further away from being reliant (heavily reliant) on those fossile fuels to build and maintain new green industry. So it's not like stop using something is equivalent of it never existing.
      I agree that technology and innovation are the cornerstones of the transition. That is why I am so disgusted that instead of accepting the challange, and put in the effort that is necessary to succeed, we are still arguing with idiots that want to dismiss the scale of the challange because they are scared that we won't fully be able to transition with the technology and innovation in the foreseeable future. And they are unwilling to accept that the facts of what need to be done doesn't fit their feelings about what they are willing to change.
      I'm not asking for anyone to give up anything that they don't have to give up. But I cannot accept that we are expected to just ignore all facts that we aren't able to without any sacrifice account for.
      I would agrue that it for a long time has been morally justified to use fossile fuels. And even today to maintain some basic level of modern 2023 society. But the window is closing because we have had more then 50 years to transition, as the facts of climate change has been known. And at some point it's not going to be morally justified anymore toward future generations.

    What I dont get, if I walked in the middle of the road without a placard. I would be arrested instantly..
    Why are these THINGS, immune to the law and prosecution all because they have a placard with some random words on it.. genuinely.. wtf is the police in the UK doing

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a UK officer - no you wouldn't. You'd be escorted from the road after you were told to get out of the road, if you continued to refuse or ran back into the road, then it might be the case, but that's no different to what happened here.
      The difference is when it involves a protest, different legislation has to be used. Section 12 of the public order act is older legislation that isn't really designed for obstructing the highway cases, but the offence wording is such that it can be used. "Wiful obstruction of the highway" is harder to prove and that's why they use Section 12 POA.
      I've arrested one person in my career for "Wiful obstruction of the highway", at a defence arms exhibition where two people in clown outfits and face makeup tried to lay in the road, put their arms in a tube and tried to padlock them together, this was a number of years ago before JSO were really becoming a "thing" if you like, and so obstrution of the highway was used then. Now JSO try to argue at court when they get arrested for Obstructing the highway and try to challenge various points of the law, citing "grey areas", so us police have to use other legislation such as "Section 12 of the public order act" which is easier to prove and has less "grey area" to it.

      As an officer myself, this is the exact way we're told to do it, the most senior ranking officer present, in this case, a Sergeant issues a Section 12 Public Order Act warning, from which arrest can follow if they refuse to vacate the road. This proves to the court that the police gave them a reasonable opportunity to move and acted in a reasonable manner. Any counter claim being bought by these protestors would likely not even get to court, or be thrown out, when the court are shown footage of the officers using restraint and making a lawful request for them to move, and then using reasonable force to make an arrest when they refuse to do so.
