I made some cabinet doors exactly like this using Kreg system. Came out quite well for my first time making shaker doors. Then I started looking at profiles and trying different bits to create an outside profile. Ended up trashing the entire lot and getting some rail and stile bits with ogee inside and round over on the outside to create some really good looking professional cabinet doors. Painted them up using my HVLP gun look amazing. Thanks for giving me the bug :) these are some nice videos. Next up drawer fronts.

to everyone asking... the comments here about 1/4'' rabbet is NOT CORRECT. in the 7th video he says 3/8 inch rabbet bit- just FYI... he is using 1'' x 3'' poplar comes out to (3/4 thick x 2'' 3/4 wide)

We made the cabinet doors from 3/4"-thick material-poplar in our case. In home centers, you’ll find it sold as “one-by” boards, such as 1x4, 1x6, etc. But the actual thickness of these boards is 3/4".
The correct pocket-hole screw length to join 3/4"-thick material is a 1 1/4"-long screw.
The door panels were made from 1/4"-tjhcik plywood

This is a great video. This is actually how I do doors except the strips on the back. IMO it’s a cheap look and looks like and after thought. To each his own. Millions of carpenters and everyone will do things alittle different. But for first times this is really great video. Very informative.

I would appreciate the brand of router you used in this project. Great tutorial. I'm going to try and build my own doors using your tutorial with all of the tools you have used.
Mostly he's using DeWalt power tools. They're good quality, but can be expensive. I would do some more research before starting your project. Don't forget this is a demonstration video to sell Kreg tools. There are much simpler (and better) ways to make shaker style cabinet doors with a saw, a couple of router bits and some glue. Just search youtube for "cabinet doors" and you'll see what I mean.

The Kreg pocket joining system is super awesome! Are you gonna paint doors after you install them? I always paint/ stain before adding hardware. Also it's pretty easy to make a jig for concealed hinges, but the one in the video is really nice if doing a ton of doors.

1) don't put pocket holes to close to the inside of the frame or else your router will hit your pocket screw when making the rabbet. Don't just center your Kreg jig and make two holes unless you're planning on using a bit that only eats in 1/4th inch into your inside frame (which is cutting it close regarding fitting in the inner plywood piece).

Great video. I'm making a cabinet and am thrilled I can use my Kreg pocket hole jig with such sharp results.
What I like about this is that the panel is very deep. If you cut a grove the panel won't be as deep.

Awesome video, only thing I would do differently is that I would cut grooves into the stiles and rail and slide the panel in instead of adding moldings to the back. It will look more professional. IMO.
Im doing that now, How do you make it so you dont cut too far and weaken the edges ? 1/2" groove 1 " groove ?
Diozark cut a slot 1/4" in the stile and rail.
I'm going to put in glass, I've been looking for a simple solution. Thank you for the molding idea.

I built a test door using the technique and tools you described. Wife said she does not like the look of the back of the door. I guess I will have to try tongue and grove. I hope it works. I need to build about 20 doors. I have used the Kreg tools on several other projects and really like them.
Yeh I thought the same thing. I think you can buy a router bit that makes a grove, but you would have to do it before assembling the door. Just remember to slide in the piece of wood or glass before the final end piece is screwed into place. ;-)
Oh and if glass paint or stain before as well.

I did redo mine. It's pretty easy and it's fun to paint them how you want.
To avoid rips score it with a razor blade . Make a clean cut ever time. Love the video

Thank you for the video, for myself I do not like what you have done on the inside but I learn quite a bit and it will be easier for me to use the greg tools I purchased.
This was an excellent tutorial on building these doors and also using some of the kreg tools!! I am still having trouble knowing how to use my 90° clamp from kreg. My pocket hole kit came with one & then i bought another one that has an L shape piece on it, a little difficult to use.

It got the job done. Besides, he needed a reason to use the Kreg Multi-Mark again. It would have actually have been less work to use dados to hold that panel because he used the router anyway to cut that rabbet but the panel would have been less recessed.

im not a professional, but isnt the whole point of recessing that center panel into the frame to avoid stuff sticking out the back of the door? So why not just cut a perfect recess instead of having to add mouldings which WILL stick out?
Its by no means the classic manner (what's shown above), but if you've already got kreg tools around, might as well do it the way in this video. The rounded corners from the router to inlet makes it less than conducive for glass panels, not unless you chiseled out the corners. When you weigh out the time it takes to router everything, you might as well tongue and groove everything on a table saw. But again, doing things with Kreg stuff, this method makes good sense and is practical for basic diy'ers that only have hand held power tools.

Just wondering, would you recommend using router method instead of using screw method of building a door? I can see why someone want to use screw ( if they don't have money for router equipment. ) What method would be the preferred method?

Does the jig help you align the hinges in the cabinet? You didn't show that part.
I'm sorry to say we do not currently have a jig for mounting the cabinets.
Great instructional video. Does Kreg have a jig to mount the cabinet hardware inside the cabinet that you connected your door onto?
Just curious why not use pine as its less expensive if you are painting it anyways. Does pine take paint different? Id like to take this on but as always I am on a tight budget. Also my cabinets have a front frame so I dont think I can use those cool hinges but wonder if there is another that will hide the hinge from view.

I just bought one as well, ordered hinges off Amazon not knowing the cup size. Exact fit. I wasn’t even aware of a cup size difference.

This is a pretty good video for building shakers without a tablesaw or routing table. If you have those already though, this video does nothing for you. Tongue and groove is by far the better option.
Absolutely, I watched this video and then another with tongue and groove. I'm building two wall mounted cabinets for our laundry area with a center shelf and an old barn board cut as the facing to attach to the shelf. I just finished doors for both cabinets using tongue and groove. I used a 1/4" dado to cut the grooves for the plywood inlay; they came out very nice. I just couldn't see routing out the back, inlaying 1/4" plywood with mitered corners, and molding to hold it in place, it looks way to tacky.
If you own a router just inlay the center panel instead of this hideous method on the back side of door. Use a table saw even but inlaying the panels looks much better and makes for a finished looking product inside and out.
I agree. I don't see why that extra strip of moulding is necessary.
Jay P Hi Jay P. Agree with you regarding the center inlay panel... I am a newbie to this. I have a router table... can you explain how to add the groove to the rails and stiles without having to use the router on the full length of the rails and stiles... leaving a gap at the end. Thanks.
@@denisnoctor You'll have to set a stop on your table and will have to plunge the bit rather than starting at the end of the piece. If you can't set a physical stop then you can mark a line on your router table top as a place to stop feeding.
Sorry. A fine video and demonstration of tools (kreg) but the application to the back of those doors does not look good. Why not do almost the same thing but "dry screw" the parts and use a router to put a dado (slot) in the sides of those rails and stiles. Then disassemble, insert the panel, glue and screw. That way you could avoid that awful looking molding on the back. ...and you could still do it all with your kreg stuff...and a router.

Raymond Mesina a lot! Lol let’s talk more about his set up! Sure looks easy with the big table and saw horses that have a t track that work with those clamps that stay in any place to hold the material down and don’t have to keep finding the clamp it’s just always where ever you release it.

Really enjoy the videos and I learn something new each time I watch them. Yet one thing I never seem to get right is the Kreg pocket hole plugs to work the way shown in this video. They are never flush, I've tried sanding the ends, cutting them with flush cut saws plugging them with wood putty and every other type of filler. what is the secret?
your pocket hole jig might not be adjusted properly to droill the right dept or the screw are not all the way in.
