Bang & Olufsen in F10 BMW. Was it the best one?

- 99% of all the videos about B&O for bmw F-series that I found were either short clips or lacked any comprehensive information about the system itself. I myself have considered retrofitting it twice in my previous cars so now that I got one and lived with it for 6 month - I decided to wrap it up to those of you who might consider retrofitting Bang & Olufsen audio system in your BMW and how it might compare to your other options.

Musician shopping for F11 right now. Exactly what I was looking for in YT... My guy! Subscribed!
Bro thank you so much i have never seen such a detailed video about the b&o system! Really helped me to understand and i like that you mentioned that stuff with the deadoning. 🔥👍
Happy to help!
show us a full walkaround and review of your new F10
Car is going into the paint shop next week so hopefully after all is done - I’ll make a walk around of the car and share all options for those who consider retrofitting
In the UK it’s easier to find a cabrio F11 then a F10 with B&O 😂. Would you reccomend get a HK and change the speakers and amps?
100%. If that's a common option. Upgrading an HK is a piece of cake, you just take bolt-on components from Match or Focal and replace the existing system. Zero hassle. Even the HiFi would be a very easy upgrade. Just stay away from "Base Stereo" (not sure if you got those in the UK). Very common in Europe and quite a pain in the a*s to upgrade.
@@asking_for_a_friend the basic one is the most common here in the UK. Problem is it’s very hard to differentiate the hifi from the basic in pictures. Many people write hifi or premium in the description and it’s a basic system I think with no tweeters in the A pillar.
@@csabakiss2184 easy way to find our is the mash in the A pillars, since with base-audio it's just plastic. Or some people put HK grills (from AliExpress) and pretend it's the deal but HK always has speakers in the rear doors, so that's also a very easy check :)
the best bmw soundsystem ist the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System... abt 5k extra in an m8
Haven’t had a chance to listen to it, but for 5k I’m quite certain that you could get away with a much better sound if you go custom. Same as with the B&O. The drivers in all these systems are very basic, compared to the actual BW/BO sound systems. But it is indeed the “easiest” option since you get the car off the lot and go, no need to take a brand new car apart and rewire the whole system
@@asking_for_a_friendI’ve had Harman Kardon (HK) systems in my 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series, and they were all impressive. However, the 2019 7 Series stood out with significantly better sound quality. I’ve always appreciated HK for its loudness, punchy bass, and overall performance.
Recently, I upgraded to the new 7 Series G70, which comes with a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system. Initially, I wasn’t impressed, especially coming from the HK in my previous 7 Series. But after spending a few days fine-tuning the settings, I’ve come to realize the B&W system is far superior. While it doesn’t match HK’s deep, thumping bass, the mids and highs are incredibly clear, offering much better overall quality.
It’s a bit of a trade-off: HK delivers unmatched bass, but B&W excels in refinement and clarity. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference.
(Warning I wrote and entire essay lmao) Looking at getting a 5er and here in ZA its so so hard to find any decently specced car for a decent price, f10’s are all 520d’s and here and there a m5 but 530d’s, 535d’s, 535i’s and 550i’s are so rare and the 520’s are all so basic, if you’re lucky you’ll find an lci with 6wb and nav professional but thats it no other options, msport is also very common but thats it and the g30’s are just as basic, no ambient lighting, no hk, 50/50 chance it has a small screen and many many base spec cars with nothing but msport, and the g30 530d’s and 540i’s are so rare and damn expensive, the few 520’s in both shapes which are well specced are also priced way to high to he worth it, but anyway, would you recommend getting a f10 520d and making it nice with a tune, intercooler and dp with nbt evo retrofit, sound system upgrade with alphaone and 6wb retrofit and whatever else or get a g30 and do a few upgrades? Any advice would be much appreciated man, also i forgot there is an old 2010 535d with many options available but it’s damn expensive for a 2010 bmw so yeah those are the three options, f10 520d lci with many upgrades/retrofits, g30 520d or old f10 535d
Hi there! Love essays :) I had a 2010 520d (RWD) with 184 bhp and a 2016 525xd with 218 bhp and XHP3 tune on the gearbox. They drove practically the same in terms of their acceleration. In your case I would try and find an f10 from 2015-2016 when they introduced a B48 engine as it is a bit better than the N47 used in the previous models. You can easily get a Stage 1 tune on it with 245 bhp and approx 500Nm and with the rear wheel drive - it would be a perfect daily car. I wouldn't do a Stage 2 on the 520's due to the limitations of the gearbox since it's rated for 450Nm or 500 peak, so if you do a stage 2 you will get around 600Nm peak torque and that will definitely screw up the ZF gearbox on your car. If there is a significant price difference between F10 and G30, I'd go with F10, only sport seats (comfort seats are actually worse in my opinion), do a stage 1 engine tune and Stage 3 XHP gearbox tune. Replace the chain (if it wasn't done), put good tires on the car and get a Match audio system. That's it. Nothing else. I'd be super happy if it had a head-up display, since digital dash is only fun for the first time. You stop caring after 2 hours in the car and the price of it (with quality installation) is around 1000$. Totally useless. I should probably start a discord channel so we could have these discussions and share experiences there :D
@@asking_for_a_friend thanks for your reply man, the other issue in ZA is that people treat their cars like sh!t so finding one in good condition is the other issue and there one 2016 520d that i looked at with 87k on the clock and the car was super nice but the bumper was painted/replaced poorly so i walked away, the tires were also bald with chunks missing and there were chunks of the bumper missing on the bottom aswell so i think it drove on gravel often but other than that, perfect condition, full service history with bmw until the last service done in august 2023 and all books but that bumper put me off, the difference between similarly specced g30’s and f10’s are like 130k ZAR so +- 6000 euro’s but idk if the g30 is so much better than the f10. The other thing is that the only thing i really like from the g30 is the ambient lighting and almost no 520d’s have that so that doesn’t warrant getting a g30 imo, also i luckily did my homework so i notice small things on the car and yes the b47 is what i’m looking for but if i get an n47 car i’ll do the chain asap and whichever way i go gearbox service aswell and an intercooler as it is a hot and high climate so cars struggle here. Also a discord would be awesome, just found your channel yesterday and it couldn’t have been at a better time. And last thing there is a g30, a 2020 for a very very good price at a dealer my father has been with since 2003 and the salesmen is one of his personal best friends so i trust them, the issue is that it is a basic basic 520, base sound system, base gauges, small screen but as i said it is a 2020 with 110k km (that’s considered rather high for a g30 here) for a great price but the base audio and small screen is what I’m hesitant about so would it be worth going for this car or rather stick with the f10?
@@meepmeep2588 added a Discord link to the video description. Feel free to join, easier to share info there :) As for your question - i'd probably go for G30. It's a newer platform, will definitely have better resale value and you will get a better car in the end of the day. Remember, that first F10 was up for sale already in 2009, so it's a 15-year old platform at least. Just check the condition of the leather in G30. In some markets BMW was using cheap "eco" leather on the sides of their seats and that crap was showing first cracks after a year of use.
And if you do get an F10 - don't only work on intercooler but check that the EGR was replaced as part of their recall. It has started a number of fires in N47 engines. It's not that big of an issue in cold climates but since you live in the hot climate - it's a must have.
The b&o system in the f10 is shit lol
Its better in the f06
Your comment doesn’t make any sense. All B&O systems in all F-series use the same components (except for maybe F01, but I doubt that). So using your logic either they are all shit or none of them are
@@asking_for_a_friend i have a 2016 bmw f10 and a 2016 bmw f06
The b&o system sounds better in the f06
Maybe due to the interior body shape
@@socommaster could be, as I said in the video - the "sound" is a result of cabin isolation and reflections, not the actual speakers. Thus same speakers may "sound" very differently in different environments.
