Ford Fiesta SE 5sp manual transmission drain plug yes or no?

    I stated in the video, I am still not 100% sure if you should drain the fluid from the location shown. I do know the question of a drain plug has been in question for YEARS, so since my transmission was junk anyway, I figured why not find out.
    my findings: well the fluid defiantly drains out BUT, That" bolt" is in there VERY tight, AND the aluminum threads are very fine.. so I can't really say it is capable of being a drain plug or not. If you decide to use it as a drain plug YOU ARE DOING IT AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MISSHAPS

    I’ve done it, worked for me. I was literally gonna do a video next time because when I did it there was no video but you got it! When I did it there was just some forum stuff on it. I just did pipe dope when I put it back in because the threads were a little fine.

    Yep it's a detent as has been stated. Suggest locking the car doors so no-one can move the gear lever while the plug is out.

    That's a spring loaded ball used to push up against the shift interlock! It's part of the mechanism to prevent the transmission from moving both axles or into two gears simultaneously. I would think that it's fine to use it as a drain plug as long as you don't shift.

      @johnnyturbo8460  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was kind of my thoughts. The only thing that really makes it sketchy is, that bold is REALLY tight and the threads are VERY thin and aluminum. Could very possibly pull some threads when removing . But if clearly is possible to drain from there at owners discretion

    This may not be an intended drain plug, but you can absolutely use it as one. I've done it at my shop and have not problems after re-installing it. That is a spring loaded ball that engages a detent on the shaft you can see through the threaded hole. I would suggest removing it in neutral and not touching the gear selector levers until it is re-installed though.

    How many liters were you able to drain from that hole? I opted for removing the driver's side axle shaft, but I only collected 1.5 liters compared to the 2.3 liters indicated as the total capacity by the various oil finder tools of the oil manufacturers

    Are you still running this for rally? Ive found one i want to get for rally but its auto so id need to change to man. Basically ive having a hard time find docs or videos about the se if you got any resources id really appreciate it.Thank you have a good day.

      I still have the car, but last 2 years I got 2nd over all in my class, so I stopped and retired the car before I killed it.
      You do NOT want the auto. It's best you just keep looking for a manual.
      As far as set up, I'm running 2014 Ford Fiesta SE a Magnaflow cat back, Bilstein shocks, aluminum belly pan/engine guard (you can see it in a different video of mine), stainless steel Brake lines, front and rear strut braces, a frame brace behind the rear seats, ITG drop in air filter, aftermarket plug wires, Hawk front bads, Sumitomo Ice Edge tires all the way around to name a few things.
      It's a great rally car. It's fairly inexpensive, handles great, good head room for helmet, comfortable seats, good instrument cluster. etc..
      I went with the SE for a few reasons over the ST.
      1. It's cheaper. I figured if I crashed it, I wouldn't be as upset.
      2. The ST overheats often during hard driving (I have seen them over heat at the track and not finish)
      3. No, the SE is not powerful, BUT it makes up for it in a few ways. It's low power doesn't spin the tires as easy to you go forward instead of spinning. It's a very easy car to drive at the limit. It handles very well. I also just bought a road race car, so I'm back on the asphalt
      4. It's fun to beat up on it, because it just keeps taking it.
      Feel free to ask anything else

      The plug in question is called a 'access cap'. Mechanics use her to set up the paul. Do not unscrew it or the shifter will fall into the PTO. One will be magnet fishing 🧲 The access cap can be bought from a wreaking yard

    ib5 doesn't have drain hole. You have to remove gearbox and drain it from axle.

    • @johnnyturbo8460
      @johnnyturbo8460  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just pull one axle out of the driver side and use a suction hose to pull it out, or use it in the fill hole. No need to pull the while transmission

    • @LA_Commander
      @LA_Commander ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, you don't. Just remove the fill plug and use a suction device with a long tube to suck out the old fluid. Time consuming, yes, but still doable.

    • @johnnyturbo8460
      @johnnyturbo8460  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LA_Commander I have seen some guys pull out a drive shaft, and use a fluid sucker with a hose on it to suck as much transmission fluid out as they can. Then use the fluid sucking tool to put fresh fluid back in.
      Like some say, using the bolt I pulled out to drain it is a "use that bolt to drain it AT YOUR OWN RISK"
      It can be don't, but may not be worth the risk. I still can't fully confirm what that risk is they others are talking about.
