No one is looking through that thin gap in the bathroom stall door. If they are then they’re either a pervert or child without manners. I’ve never had someone look at me in the stall and I don’t make any effort to look between the cracks at anyone else. It’s really not an issue here and most newer places don’t have gaps in the doors anymore. Besides we all know what you’re doing in there, there’s no curiosity that needs to be satisfied, no need to look, everyone’s in the bathroom for the same reason.

As an American, I love our public bathrooms, esp with children. Kids often lock themselves inside.. but parents can get the kids to crawl out from the bottom. As a parent I always was afraid of my kids getting stuck. And let's not forget the plea for toilet paper from the stall next to you, so it's easy to pass a clump of toilet paper under to save the day. Some stall doors naturally close, so unless you see a body inside (and it's not really a clear view by the way) you have to check all the doors by pushing to see if they're occupied. Lolol.. pull the plug out? How about just turning off the light or machine?

Have an ice maker in the fridge is not required. I grew up using ice cube trays that we filled with water and emptied when needed.

The US does doesn't have a federal sales tax. They are only a state and possibly additional city/locality thing and they vary between states. However, there are a lot of retailers that are nationwide... think Wal-Mart or McDonald's... and a lot of their advertisements apply as such. If prices were included in shelf prices then large chain retailers would potentially have to have a separate advertising campaign in every state/city. And that's a big reason sales taxes aren't included in the instore prices.

The other thing to keep in mind relative to pricing and sales tax is that many goods are priced at the point of manufacture. @@Stache987 I believe he's talking about ground fault interrupt (GFI) outlets, which are required now in many areas to be used in bathrooms and kitchen and other areas where outlets are near water sources.
They do add a layer of protection and sense a problem at the outlet before a circuit breaker or fuse at the panel, so they are very convenient since they can be reset by a button right on the outlet.
The fuses or circuit breakers at the panel are still necessary, since the GFI outlet does not protect the wires carrying electricity from the panel to the outlet. If those wires are shorted the outlet will be shut off, but without protection at the panel the wires wouldl continue to conduct electricity, rapidly overheat, and start a fire.

UK uses 220V wiring while the US uses 110V, which is considered safer and does not need additional switches to control it's use. Some outlets can be controlled by switches but it's for convenience, not a necessary safety device. Large appliances like stoves or cloths dryers are 220V but they are hard wired and controlled by switches on the appliance and don't need a separate wall switch.

The public restroom thing is I think historically to save a buck, but serves a handy purpose of being able to tell if a stall is occupied with a quick glance vs looking for feet. Honestly though the little indicator like on portapotties would do the same job better so really it just kinda sucks.

As an American living in London currently i can confirm Lemonade is not the same here. This being said it is very easy to make its just water lemons sugar and ice. you can make it at home. Its an easy cheap refreshing drink that is easy to make so kids sometimes do actually set up lemonade stands (or at least they used to when i was younger) to make a little money to buy a toy or something like that. Its something that has become a thing to help teach children about money and earning it for themselves.

Sixites and seventies, maybe some of the eighties they could still be seen. But its been decades since seening them much; nowadays just spotting one a year is a lot. Lol, we use to base our price on half that of a comic; saw the cups go from 10c to eventually a quarter, but we never scrimpt on the sugar or lemon. Can't even imagine what they'd cost now. The ritzy ones had a secomd option of pink lemonaide (for a nickle more of course)
