They break the window because the hose going under or over the car effects the water pressure of the hose and can create kinks and waste valuable time

@@jlpack62 That would also decrease the water flow. It has to be as straight as possible. We're talking thousands of gallons of water per minute is needed to supply operations.

Nope, you can't go under. The curb on the side would kink the hose and decrease the volume of water. They rely on hydrants for thousands of gallons of water per minute - any decrease in flow in a supply line can have fatal consequences. I remember one instance where a car drove over the supply line as a flashover started causing the water supply to be interrupted. We call it "being hosed", normally a jacket or something else is put on the windowsill to insulate the hose from any chance of glass cutting into it.

9:42 I don't know about other countries but US police are allowed to break traffic laws in official capacities, such as responding to emergencies or in this case chasing suspects. They're not suppose to endanger the public though. They still slow down at stop signs and stop lights and check before running through them. I see it all the time.

The fire department will smash your windows if you park next to the hydrant in the US. It's called "Fuck around and find out". I have even seen them use the truck to ram a car out of the way when they could not get to the hook-up.

They will go through the window. They need to keep the hose straight, at the beginning. You are supposed to stop if they are in the crosswalk.

There will still be a slight reduction in pressure, but better then the other methods. If it was any worse the engine would have used it's bumper.

Yep. The rule is, pedestrians have the right of way. Plus, the pedestrian was crossing the street long before the car came along. Drivers sometimes think it's okay to "clip" a pedestrian if the person hadn't reached their particular lane yet. Nope. That driver's getting a nicely priced ticket

The guy with the firehose through his windows is lucky his car sits that low. If they couldn't get a good hookup, they'd have used one of their vehicles to shove him out of the way without regard to how much damage it did. The guy who parked there would have been on the hook for any damages to both vehicles.

I think the guy crossing the road with the dog on the crosswalk was probably an undercover cop as I have seen setups like that before.

7:30 - no, they couldn't go under or over or around the car. There is a tremendous water pressure in that thick hose, which turns it basically into a steel beam that cannot go over or under. Fire hose with water running does not bend.
In Glendale CA, pedestrians have right of way. If there is a person in a cross walk, the driver must stop

In the case in the video the cop does not have to stop, the pedestrian does. When a cop turns his emergency lights and or siren on when responding to something he has the right of way
You actually cannot go over the car in the fire hose situation, it crimps the hose to much and restricts flow, and lessens the FD's ability to quickly contain the fire. Park in a Fire Hydrant zone, that's a risk you take and your insurance is going to tell you to pound sand.
I have heard of the fire hydrant thing before. I believe they actually can do that.
In the USA, pedestrians have the "right-of-way" at any intersection, crosswalk painted there or not, unless otherwise regulated by signs, signals, or monitors. This means even if there is no crosswalk painted on the road, all traffic must yield to any pedestrian waiting to cross at any intersection, approaching an intersection to cross it, or already in the act of crossing the intersection. In many jurisdictions even the police do not enforce this law enough so it is often not clearly understood by many motorists and this accounts for far too many deaths as a result.
I even watched a police officer stop a woman who had been trapped in the middle of a four lane road by unyielding traffic in both directions and the cop tried to write her a citation for jaywalking because there wasn't a painted crosswalk. Even he had mistakenly thought a crosswalk was required. I actually got involved and had him call his watch commander who corrected his error and educated him in the correct enforcement of the law. A reminder that police are not experts in all the laws they enforce.
Wrong. It might be that way in YOUR state, however, it is NOT that way in every state.
@@Jace-xw3ly I have yet to hear of a state this is not the case in. Don't hit a pedestrian thinking you have the right of way just because you don't see a crosswalk. Maybe ask your insurance agent if you will be covered if you do? It is a good way to find out.
Not where I'm at. If there's no designated crosswalk then you can't cross, it's jaywalking. Of course if there is someone walking in the road, a driver should stop so they won't hit them, but not because it's an allowed crossing.
@@BB.halo_heir The laws vary to a degree but for some it is semantics and situational language. Take Texas for example. You are forbidden to pass a car that has stopped for a pedestrian crossing the street in any situation, crosswalk or not. So if someone stops to let someone cross a street away from an intersection, you must yield as well. In some states like NY, the law states pedestrians have the right-of-way in almost every situation. The conditions I mentioned above are specific to my state's laws but the language also applies the same to many other states with minor deviations. Being ticketed for jaywalking just for crossing at an unmarked intersection is just unrealistic by any standard of the law. Especially when you consider the relative scarcity of actual painted sidewalks at intersections.

In North Carolina the fine for entering a crosswalk when a pedestrian is in it is very steep.
Idk about other states but here in Alabama, if it's a marked crosswalk (by signage) and someone is trying to cross you do have to stop.

When it comes to blocking fire hydrants i fully agree with fire departments breaking their windows. You don't block fire hydrants you could cost someone their life by making things take longer. This is not a new rule people should know better.

To answer your question about yielding to pedestrians as an officer, to my knowledge, there is an exception to the yielding rule for emergency vehicles with lights on, namely that the officer doesn't have to yield while he is in pursuit of a suspect, though he does have to exercise caution. If there are any current or former LEO's please let me know if this is true during your time on the force or correct me.

If a car parks in front of a fire hydrant in the US, the fir department will break the windows in the car and run the hose through it. They will then call the police (if they aren't already there) and the police will write them a ticket for blocking the hydrant, impeding emergency vehicles during a fire, and the person will NOT get reimbursed for the damage by ANY insurance company (since you have to file a police report and it reads as total driver error). This is a very serious offense. Running the hose through the car prevents it from being driven away easily. If necessary, the firemen can attach the other end of the hose back to the truck making a loop. If the driver cuts the hose (which would be exceptionally difficult if the hose is of decent quality), it can be a felony and can land the driver in jail.

No, if you are parked blocking a fire hydrant, they will take the hose through your car. There's a building on fire, they don't play! My department will, anyway.
I'm not sure about who has the right of way if there's a person _waiting_ to cross, but if a person is _already_ crossing, then, even if it's not _legally_ required, it just makes moral sense to let them cross first.

In America it is the law to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. But not all states or municipalities enforce it.
The guy with the dog is probably also a cop but in the US he would have to yield to the cop car because its lights and sirens are on. US cops like to do a sting operation where they have undercover cops walk out into crosswalks improperly and then go after drivers who can't stop in time.
If there is a pedestrian in the cross walk all traffic has to stop since they have the right of way.

The fire truck video is in NYC and in NYC the fire department doesn't play games when you park your car in an illegal way. That guy got off easy in my opinion. I have seen worse in NYC.

If the pedestrian has the green light, he or she has the right of way and you are to let them cross, there for you have to stop and wait.
As to "why kick dogs", it's almost always videos of ruzzians, Uzbeks, or Kazakhs.
The cop who went thru the crosswalk to chase that car would have stopped if the the pedestrian had been near enough to have been at risk of being struck. Conversely, if the cop had been going fast enough to make taking a wider turn he would have also stopped. It's a matter of the risk to the pedestrian versus the severity of the traffic infraction that the other driver committed.
It is a law in the U.S. that you must stop at crosswalks for pedestrians.

Karma is widely misunderstood in the West. It does not mean, "What comes around goes around." It is a belief that one is reincarnated according to one's previous life. It is the ultimate blame the victim mentality.
Let's say you give birth to a baby with a handicap, or a deformaty, or a serious health problem. According to Karma, you brought this on by something you did, and the baby also deserves this because they did something bad in a past life.
The other issue with Karma is that it promotes selfishness. We should be kind and generous, we should love justice but embrace forgiveness because that is what is right, but Karma teaches us to do good deeds so WE can get something. Ultimately its to benefit ourselves, nobody else.
What we call Karma is often the result of the natural consequences of bad decisions. If you are going to kick a dog while standing on an icy street, chances are good you will land on your butt. Nothing mysterious, just stupidity.
Ill take Grace over Karma, God over Karma, and treating others well because its the right thing to do.

I still can't understand why most everyone dumps on that one girl who was in front of the judge. She was obviously either high or that's just how she is. But saying "Adios" to a judge who is obviously Hispanic himself doesn't seem disrespectful. If it were a non-Hispanic person and they said it with a sarcastic tone I could understand. But the fact that his English has a far way to go(I couldn't completely understand what he was saying the first time I watched the clip) I don't think it was inappropriate at all.🤷♂️
It wasn't saying adios, it was how she treated the whole procedure. You could tell she thought the whole thing was a joke and her flippant adios said with no respect was the judge's breaking point.
