All the Jewish villages, both religious and secular on the Golan have put up a Druze flag alongside the Israeli one and in some cases a flag at half mast in sympathy with the Druze for the massacre of children last Saturday. We are all heartbroken and mourn with our Druze neighbors. The Golan is 50% Jewish and 50% Druze who live together in peace as neighbors and friends.

Thanks so much, Rania and Omar for this amazing conversation, and of course Marissa for facilitating this. I'm a proud Israeli-Druze and Rania you even made me more proud of who I am as an Israeli and as a Druze. Omar, your perfect description of the Druze "as people who represent the independent, free spirit that is refreshing to the free world but not so refreshing to tyrannical regimes" couldn't have been a better description of who we are and what we represent. You gave me hope by showing how Druze even in the rest of the Middle East, despite the challenging circumstances, still carry this flag of peace and freedom and stand for it. Maybe it's just about time to reclaim the Druze autonomy that you mentioned, which was a beacon of light in the face of the Ottoman Empire's tyranny and darkness back in the 16th century, and bring back the values and ideals of freedom and equality to Lebanon and Syria. You made me even prouder. God bless you.
Thanks for giving us the insights into the Druze community and their ways. They sound like exceptional people with amazing souls. I wish them love and peace always ❤
the Druze in the Golan Heights were afraid Israel would give the land back to Syria as part of its 'land for peace' idiocy, in the Golan Heights case it will never happen, its way too important strategically. once land is won and Annexed after a defensive war and recognized as sovereign territory of Israel by the leader of the free world (Trump), "International law" wise, it is no longer Syrian land. the fact that Trump recognized the Golan Heights helped the 'identity issue' of the Druze there.

From Wikipedia (so not necessarily 100% true: Benjamin of Tudela, the Jewish traveler who passed through Lebanon in or around 1165, was one of the first European writers to refer to the Druze by name. The word Dogziyin ("Druzes") occurs in an early Hebrew edition of his travels, but it is clear that this is a scribal error. Be that as it may, he described the Druze as "mountain dwellers, monotheists, who believe in 'soul eternity' and reincarnation". He also stated that "they loved the Jews". Not that there were too many Jews left by that point.
As a Druze (Syrian) I’m quite disappointed in the way they (mostly Omar) answered many of these questions. 1- we are not secret because of persecution (while it is a factor) the main reason is theological and this is represented in the Ismaili idea of batin al batin and taqqiya 2- we do NOT wish to share our “pearls of wisdom” to anyone. We have been ordered by the divine not to share it. This man is the perfect reason why only a minority of Druze know the faith. If people like him were educated with it then he would have betrayed the faith 3- most Druze were NEVER in Egypt. The Druze of today are native Levantine descendants of converts 4- no none of the converts were Kurdish tribes and only 6 were Arab. The tanukh tribe simply came to prominence as they set up the first emirate 5- Druze have Druze run courts for marriages in Israel and Syria… so yes we practice our equality laws 6- yes we have books of other religions but we don’t follow them… the Old Testament especially has no significance 7- the idea that we are descendants of jethro and Egyptians is spiritual not physical. There is a direct timeline of the manifestations of god but I will not elaborate 8- stop acting like a victim. The last thing we want is Druze being plastered on everyone’s TV. We are not under intense discrimination while there have been attacks we have suffered the least out of every group even Muslims in the Middle East 9- no Druze did not get conscripted by the Syrian army as there is an agreement between Druze leaders and the Syrian government which states that Druze don’t have to serve outside Suwayda (Druze homeland) in return we stay neutral in the war 10- the idea that people attack us because of “free thinking” is false. Muslims persecute us because they see us as infidels (which is a reason why we must pretend we are Muslims) 11- we do arrange marriages 12- bal3ous was assassinated by the government for opposing them. Now his militia rijjal al Karameh has become more moderate and neutral 13- about maximum 2500 were killed in Syria (most are combatants not civilians). Lebanon has had 0 Druze killed since 2008 14- WE WANT TO BE INVISIBLE 15- our support is the secular state. We are nationalists for this reason 16- Hezbollah isn’t Hamas so dumb argument 17- Hezbollah admitted they launched the rockets at the nearby military base not the village so yes it’s most likely a misfire as these rockets are fired in many salvos not one shot 18- the Druze of the golan heights are not under threat of islamists… 19- the Druze of the golan ONLY wave Syrian flags… there is not a single Israeli flag there 20- maybe Lebanese hate israel because Israel bombed the shit out of Lebanon??? 21- the alternative is make a Jewish state in Poland not our land 22- the right to exist as a community is not the same as right to exist as a state. No religion/ethnicity deserves its own state 23- Druze are honoured in Arab history as revolutionaries 24- Israel literally classifies Druze as second class with the National state law… 25- the narratives in Syria and Lebanon were made with blood. We don’t have these assumptions based on brain washing we fought in these wars against Israel and saw what they did 26- Druze are historically socialists… I will not elaborate further as our history is secret 27- the civil war had nothing to do with socialism or any political ideology… this is pure propaganda 28- Druze are agricultural people of course we have chickens at home 29- 20 years of Israeli occupation and thousands dead Lebanese and they left “just a bit of sour taste”? Are you serious??? 30- Druze are just as educated in Syria and Lebanon… I don’t know why you think this is an achievement for israel 31- October 7 was purely a Palestinian Israeli event. Its motivations are Palestinian nationalism and also not a single Druze civilian in Israel was harmed by Hamas 32- Americans like this avenger evil vs good talk but Druze are dualists and both “good” and “bad” must balance
So interesting.. I thought about how similar the 2 groups sound- Jews and Druze. From what I understand it was a nickname that the Muslims gave to the Druze Bec they didn’t like them and it sounded similar to the Jews?
Respectfully, I still have no idea who the Druze are. First she says it's a secret, so much so that even she doesn't know the secrets. Then we hear names like Plato and Pythagoreous thrown around, with zero details or explanation. Apparently they believe in reincarnation, but still with no details. The tenets of the faith she actually explained are self preservation and allegiance to the country one is in. Doesn't add up in my opinion. Disclaimer: I have no ill will toward the Druze and hope they can live in peace wherever they want. It's truly sad the amount of violence they endure.
I agree with you......I was fascinated to hear the little shared about the Druze and was keen to know more, but was left with more questions than answers......how can you follow an ideology if you don't know what it is?
@@TheNagualWilliamas a druze ill answer your question: the faith is different from other faiths because even if a non druze believes in it they will not be a druze. i was born a druze, so im a druze whether i like it or not.
