1973 BMW 3.0 CSi (E9) Classic Car Review

  • Everybody talks about the BMW 3.0 CSL when they talk about the E9 model, but do they know that the CSL was largely based on the 3.0 CSi? Yes, the multiple European Touring Car Championship title winning CSL street car is 210KG lighter than the CSi, but the engine it uses is largely based on the 3.0 CSi with only has a slight engine capacity and horsepower increase (3.0 to 3.1 litre and only a handful more horsepower). So the 3.0 CSi is a special car with racing pedigree in its own right! Very rare in Hong Kong and especially in rust-free form like the one we are reviewing today - enjoy!

That why my mates family have 5 of them , .... yes ...I said 5
great investment also , prices only going up and up on the csl model specially with the csi model following behind
Better to own this model than having money in the bank earning you pennies
While these cars are going up in their thousands every year
And my mates family drive them all in the summer only
    Great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This is a beautiful example. The LHD cars are exceptionally beautiful to North Americans like myself, with solid wood dash spar that was only used in the LHD vehicles. When I looked through the service records of my 1973 CS there is a history of the ledge of the inner front fender being vacuumed ($250.00 maintenance). The E9 comes alive at 60mph.

It’s been a bit busy for me recently so I haven’t had the chance to watch many Instacar videos, but I’m glad I spent time on this. Production values have gone up a lot, with the music being there but not overly loud and covering up everything else, many more different shots to keep us entertained, and a very interesting choice of car to review. I’m certain you can continue making good reviews even with some of BMW’s recent disgusting releases.

I had the same color CSL back in the late 80s and his impression and my memory don't line up. I lived on top of a mountain outside Frankfurt (Feldberg) and my neighbor had a 74 RSR ... although we worked in the same place we'd often race to work and the CSL would often win. This car with updated bilstein suspension & front airdam was better than the Porsche of the day. The RUST issue was true back then with my CSL only being 15 years old (it had a full body rotiserie resto back then .. trunk, floor & front firewall/fender area). The metal was sourced in France back then (as I recall) and it was just not up to BMW standard.

Great review of a lovely e9 coupe. As you mentioned the CSL is quite similar to the CSi and many added the optional comforts back into the cars when new. Many confuse the CSL with the 3.2 "Batmobile" model which are quite rare and the values reflect that. When I was a young lad there was a 2800CS along my paper route that I admired. I think the chrome trim goes well with that metallic blue.
Does anyone there have an 1800ti sedan? I had one briefly. It was the basis for the TiSA that was raced in the 2 litre touring car series before the smaller 02 two door model. It came with a 5 speed manual and rear disc brakes. That was pre-1970!

Beautiful car and great paint color! Personally I prefer the stock alloys to the Alpinas, and I’d ditch the pinstriping and chrome wheel spats. To each his own. Sadly, it’s not a problem I’ll have, as I doubt I will ever be able to park an E9 in my garage.

    • @michaeltan3752
      @michaeltan3752 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. No wheel splats. They tend to inhibit rust as water and mud are always present there. Overall, a marvelous and timeless design. Great colour. Great video!

Had the same colour 1971 totally restoref
    Twin tone light beige/brown leather.
Had It 5 years and decided to restore to absolute newstate.
2 months after finishing(2 year restauration) I got hit by a drunk.dtiver on the highway, hit an H-beam and the car curved around it!
    Totall loss!
Car was value estimated by insurance company after.restauration but the money could not save the car.
Still thinking about the special periode in My life.
A well documented photo process is all that remains.

Classic cars don’t belong in big cities and countries like US. They are made to be driven in a greener town with vintage small buildings built in the medieval age , and where there are less people, countries like Italy and France, specially the country side towns in these countries . You just don’t get as much satisfaction driving a classic in an urban center with big flashy electric towers around you. It feels proper to drive a vintage car in a vintage town. Period don’t argue with me.
