You're video came up and you're forgetting to disclose alot of details. My kids are watching and taking inspiration while I have to explain to them that the only way their going to get into college is through scholarships because I cants afford a school bill that is more than my annual income! The typical student loans and at a four year University is 45,000....for a BA. I make 32,000 annually. My bad..I forgot that the university stopped free tuition, however a agree costs atleast in 2017 cost almost $14,000usd. Which would have been equivalent to the costs of a degree in the 70's.

Do me one favor? If you're in the business of helping people...don't do it! Do a search of US doctors leaving their profession because their patients couldn't afford to be seen Spoiler....they tried to find out why their patients were paying so much and nobody internally could answer. Alot of doctors here in the US have left the medical racketeering business.funny thing is my fiance no insurance costs less because there is no insurance company to negotiate every single thing that happens. Do do it if you're in the business of helping and curing people. The healthcare here sucks if you don't have the money for decent insurance. I don't know the benefits of doctors...but when someone gets annual raise the same year the health insurance increases and you go home with an extra .20 cents after the deduction....you mind as well just punch them in the face because that's how much that means to me and thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of Americans feel.

I watched "Road to the UK" video who are American doctors do the opposite of you and moved to the UK and both work in the NHS. They were saying the general same thing as you but they had the opposite answers to you. They also explained their reasons. I think it's not the country but just the different experiences you have having lived in one continuous culture and experiencing new things. Well good luck...
@aydooknow The US health system is actually much better than the UK they are not allowed to deny anyone healthcare if they don't have enough money. There are trusts set up just for this case.

Thanks!! It was pretty much just family and friends! Everything else logically pointed to the USA for me (especially when it came to my Medical career!) I love living in New York - I think if I moved to a less exciting city I might have found it more difficult to make the move!

Get the degree in the UK much cheaper than the USA, partially subsidised by the government, then ditch the NHS and reap the salary rewards in the USA without the huge debts of your American colleagues. Crafty. I would probably do the same to be fair, although the USMLEs look very tough.

What we call undergrad and medical school in the US is an 8 year program--4 years each. THen we follow with residency for 3-5 years and fellowship for 1-3 additional years depending on specialty. In the UK, the BS and medical school are usually combined into one 6 year program. Then continued training equivalent to residency and fellowship is 5-10 years depending on specialty. These come out almost the same if you consider the years of training post high school....they are just called different things and have slightly different structures. In my own example, training was a total of 15 years post high school to become a sub-specialist...4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 4 years residency, 3 years fellowship. The same level of training in the UK (where I have lived) would be 15-16 years.

Do it! Follow your dreams! Just please do research on not just LA, but california and other states as well. The biggest mistake I see people do is treating every state the same and not doing the research to see which one would suite them better
I moved to the USA in 2016. Was born in the UK . . Havent looked back since. Its amazing here. Weather and opportunities. Moved with my wife and 2 small kids . .
But in the US people also have to do undergrad which is more years than the UK. Also even though American doctors get paid more in the end of the day they still have student debt (which you won’t have), pay malpractice insurance which is crazy high, you also have to account for the fact that the UK is more socialist so you’ll be paying for your own dental appointments etc. face value it’s more but it’s really not that different.
Uk doctors do have student debts- for med school this can be at least £100,000 plus monthly intetest. We have to pay this back at a rate of 9% of our monthly pay

You were wrongly informed. A consultant surgeon in the UK could earn up to £100k from the NHS, but most of them also do private work in the evenings or at weekends, so they earn more than they have the time to spend.
I don’t agree with your comment that a trainee doctor in the US makes double that of a trainee doctor in UK (5 min 30 sec). US residency salaries are slightly less than those of registrars in the UK (adjusting for currency conversion).

The simple reason to move to US is the salary, why sugar-coat it, sound pious and religious and say it taboo to talk. Lets be practical, every doctor in the world dreams of settling down in the US where the salaries start from $300,000 to $700,000 as a consultant doctor with quarterly bonus of $50,000, plus profit sharing if in private practise. Also the advantage of low housing costs in smaller cities in US compared to absurd pigeon holes in Central London to mediocre terraced or detached housing in Greater London. Also, another advantage is weather, if you get into sunshine states in Florida, California etc compared to horrible weather in UK.

Moral of the story is if you want to make serious money after medical school and not worry about paying back tuition fees, student loans, then move to the USA.
Don't worry, far more doctors come to work in the NHS from India and Pakistan than emigrate from the UK to the USA, so overall the UK taxpayer gains from whoever pays for medical education in South Asia.
Welcome to America! Salaries and everything are good unless you make one mistake which you can get away in UK and Canada; but not in US. Malpractice insurance and licensure will be suspended for good. No one will insure you. Salaries were great but US now is going to through much more regulations to cut salaries and increase work load on doctors. Its used to be great for doctors to earn great salaries in US. Not anymore. you probably don't have students loans back in uk, so its seems much more salary. In UK people don't pay 300000 usd for medical school but in US they do. Doctors in UK are trained much better than US. field specific training is better in America. In US, no protocols, not the same respect and much heavy responsibility is there on doctor's shoulders. The other thing that is happening in America is that patients have right to choose their own doctors; not necessarily directly sent to the specialist by the GP. if a patient doesn't like a doctor, they can ask for change.
The way doctors (especially gp - general practitioners) are treated in England is consistently appalling. If you're a doctor considering moving do North America, do it!

Why i would never chose USA 1. USMLE is insanely competitive. If u fail the first time ur chances of getting into residency are almost zero 2. For an Indian it takes almost 14 years to get green card 3. Like he said u cant get into any specialty of ur choice 4. U cant do moonlighting as long as u r on a visa 5. U cant work anywhere else as long as u r on a visa 6. Ur working hrs r much longer. And per hour pay is less compared to UK I m not siding with UK here. It has its own downsides. But if earning money is ur primary goal then u might wanna consider Australia instead of US

Heyy I am thinking of going to the US to study Physician assistant. My parents put this idea in my head because of a guy they introduced to me. The problem is that once you do PA outside the UK then you can work with it in the UK. Vice versa with UK PA degree can't work in the US. So I don't know if I am willing to move my whole life there just for someone I met 3 months ago. Right now I am doing biomedical science in my second year so I'll need to make up my mind in less than a year. Ya Allah help me. Please make du'a for me.

She is a doctor married to a doctor. Probably top 1 PC of US by income in the future. Literally won't care about some inane remarks when she can throw money at them .
Dr Usama(her husband) said in a livestream that it depends on which area you end up in. NYC is a very diverse area so everyone is accustomed to multiculturalism/religious diversity. But if you end up going in a rural area etc, you might have a difficult time as people may not be accustomed to people different than them
does the American health care system prevent you from caring for those without insurance ? Being a Dr and going to a nation with one of the least developed healthcare system which prioritize those who can afford it rather than just caring for everyone at any age or financial situation ?
I can't speak for the whole country, but from my experience so far, we CANNOT and WOULD NEVER turn someone away who doesn't have insurance. The social workers help patients who can't afford treatment to enrol in medicare and medicaid. All patients who are admitted to the medicine team are accepted regardless of their financial status. I have never had to ask a patient about their insurance. We also have a free clinic which we rotate in as residents which are specifically for patients who do not have health insurance.
I'm a medical student from Honduras and I am considering moving to the UK for the specialty training I know I have to the PLAB 1 and 2 exams and the rest of the process! But I have to be honest with you my dreamed country is Australia, but the information that I have found about Australia is very complex and it's not clear! So it seems like a very complicated process.. But I'd appreciate if some of you have understandable information about medical residency or specialty training in Australia for international medical graduates
I would not recommend that you go to the UK. The health service has broke up and more and more doctors and nurses in the UK are retiring early, quitting or emigrating to rich countries in search of a far better life. I advise you to read the news from the UK and find out for yourself.

In the UK, the BS and medical school are usually combined into one 6 year program. Then continued training equivalent to residency and fellowship is 5-10 years depending on specialty. These come out almost the same if you consider the years of training post high school....they are just called different things and have slightly different structures. In my own example, training was a total of 15 years post high school to become a sub-specialist...4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 4 years residency, 3 years fellowship. The same level of training in the UK (where I have lived) would be 15-16 years.

Do it! Follow your dreams! Just please do research on not just LA, but california and other states as well. The biggest mistake I see people do is treating every state the same and not doing the research to see which one would suite them better

But in the US people also have to do undergrad which is more years than the UK. Also even though American doctors get paid more in the end of the day they still have student debt (which you won’t have), pay malpractice insurance which is crazy high, you also have to account for the fact that the UK is more socialist so you’ll be paying for your own dental appointments etc. face value it’s more but it’s really not that different.
Uk doctors do have student debts- for med school this can be at least £100,000 plus monthly intetest. We have to pay this back at a rate of 9% of our monthly pay

I hear a surgeon in the US earns $600k on avg where as in UK the saturation is around £70k. Plus US is cheap.
You were wrongly informed. A consultant surgeon in the UK could earn up to £100k from the NHS, but most of them also do private work in the evenings or at weekends, so they earn more than they have the time to spend.

I don’t agree with your comment that a trainee doctor in the US makes double that of a trainee doctor in UK (5 min 30 sec). US residency salaries are slightly less than those of registrars in the UK (adjusting for currency conversion).

It has to do with healthcare here. We don't have free healthcare so doctors don't just get paid by taxes and normal wages and such.

The simple reason to move to US is the salary, why sugar-coat it, sound pious and religious and say it taboo to talk. Lets be practical, every doctor in the world dreams of settling down in the US where the salaries start from $300,000 to $700,000 as a consultant doctor with quarterly bonus of $50,000, plus profit sharing if in private practise. Also the advantage of low housing costs in smaller cities in US compared to absurd pigeon holes in Central London to mediocre terraced or detached housing in Greater London. Also, another advantage is weather, if you get into sunshine states in Florida, California etc compared to horrible weather in UK.

Moral of the story is if you want to make serious money after medical school and not worry about paying back tuition fees, student loans, then move to the USA.
Don't worry, far more doctors come to work in the NHS from India and Pakistan than emigrate from the UK to the USA, so overall the UK taxpayer gains from whoever pays for medical education in South Asia.

Welcome to America! Salaries and everything are good unless you make one mistake which you can get away in UK and Canada; but not in US.
Malpractice insurance and licensure will be suspended for good. No one will insure you.
Salaries were great but US now is going to through much more regulations to cut salaries and increase work load on doctors.
Its used to be great for doctors to earn great salaries in US. Not anymore. you probably don't have students loans back in uk, so its seems much more salary.
In UK people don't pay 300000 usd for medical school but in US they do.
Doctors in UK are trained much better than US. field specific training is better in America.
In US, no protocols, not the same respect and much heavy responsibility is there on doctor's shoulders.
The other thing that is happening in America is that patients have right to choose their own doctors; not necessarily directly sent to the specialist by the GP. if a patient doesn't like a doctor, they can ask for change.

Why i would never chose USA
1. USMLE is insanely competitive. If u fail the first time ur chances of getting into residency are almost zero
2. For an Indian it takes almost 14 years to get green card
3. Like he said u cant get into any specialty of ur choice
4. U cant do moonlighting as long as u r on a visa
5. U cant work anywhere else as long as u r on a visa
6. Ur working hrs r much longer. And per hour pay is less compared to UK
I m not siding with UK here. It has its own downsides. But if earning money is ur primary goal then u might wanna consider Australia instead of US

Heyy I am thinking of going to the US to study Physician assistant. My parents put this idea in my head because of a guy they introduced to me. The problem is that once you do PA outside the UK then you can work with it in the UK. Vice versa with UK PA degree can't work in the US.
So I don't know if I am willing to move my whole life there just for someone I met 3 months ago.

Dr Usama(her husband) said in a livestream that it depends on which area you end up in. NYC is a very diverse area so everyone is accustomed to multiculturalism/religious diversity. But if you end up going in a rural area etc, you might have a difficult time as people may not be accustomed to people different than them

does the American health care system prevent you from caring for those without insurance ? Being a Dr and going to a nation with one of the least developed healthcare system which prioritize those who can afford it rather than just caring for everyone at any age or financial situation ?
I can't speak for the whole country, but from my experience so far, we CANNOT and WOULD NEVER turn someone away who doesn't have insurance. The social workers help patients who can't afford treatment to enrol in medicare and medicaid. All patients who are admitted to the medicine team are accepted regardless of their financial status. I have never had to ask a patient about their insurance. We also have a free clinic which we rotate in as residents which are specifically for patients who do not have health insurance.

I'm a medical student from Honduras and I am considering moving to the UK for the specialty training I know I have to the PLAB 1 and 2 exams and the rest of the process! But I have to be honest with you my dreamed country is Australia, but the information that I have found about Australia is very complex and it's not clear! So it seems like a very complicated process.. But I'd appreciate if some of you have understandable information about medical residency or specialty training in Australia for international medical graduates
I would not recommend that you go to the UK. The health service has broke up and more and more doctors and nurses in the UK are retiring early, quitting or emigrating to rich countries in search of a far better life. I advise you to read the news from the UK and find out for yourself.
