The pumpkin that the vampires play hockey with originally was going to be Tim Burton's severed head but reanimated it with a pumpkin instead in fear of it would upset Tim. Director Henry Selick regretted this decision and thought he should have showed him that version and ask if they should use it. Burton might have liked it and said "keep it in the movie". Don't know if he did see the deleted version in hindsight, though.
