I was thinking the same. I've just been watching videos about LIDAR and am so glad that I'm now retired. Honours degree in surveying just before the arrival of GPS made things so much easier. And now LIDAR! If it's any consolation, you probably wouldn't have made it as a footballer anyway. This is the best video on LIDAR scanner. Many thanks for sharing. Which no other TH-camrs has explained it so clearly like you. Subscribed your channel.
I'm no real SnapChat user but I know a few folks do. SnapChat had a filter that uses the Lidar sensor to help produce Augmented reality on surfaces. It's pretty wild. Lidar is used in numerous ways including cars with functions to help car drivers stay in their lanes, crash prevention, etc... Cool stuff
It's exclusively used for machine vision in ALL self-driving applications. The best systems use both lidars on all 4 sides, radar on all 4 sides, and camera coverage on all 4 sides. The measure app should have to option to automatically pinpoint start and end point based on object contrast. The first measurement you did was way off, that why the result wasn’t spot on.

is there a way to fill in the missing parts of the room scan, like the part of floor in middle and parts behind things that are not visible in the initial scan?
I've tryed to find the Canvas App that you've used, but haven't found any software like that. No one of them scan the room so like yours with lines detecting. Can you tell me the right name of this App!
This is a great video, however, you said on a few of the apps that they were not accurate, I think that the accuraxcy depends on how accurate the USER is. I saw you were a little over on the first yellow foot stool measurement and you said the app was not accurate. Great video though :)
I have to admit I did rush a little bit and didn't take a bit longer to get measurements to perfection, which probably led to the slightly innacurate results, but I appreciate the feedback! Thank you!
I’d recommend not using Measure on phones without LiDAR, except as a novelty. It is very inaccurate. It’s often off by about 20-30% at which point you’d be better off just taking a guess.
@@slimeade6021 I agree. Hence why I said Measure doesn't necessarily need it. But it is more accurate. I agree that measure without LiDAR is just a novelty,
@@jordanepellerin6684 well I'm not sure if the IKEA app has had LiDAR support added to it as of yet. But it doesn't really need to be extremely accurate for IKEAs usecase
great video - thanks. Do you know if there is a feature where I can scan a rectangular rug and then, like edit in photos, draw a circle around the carpet to cut out a circular piece of the rug and then 3D print it?
Thank you for the comment - I'm not sure about a specific app to do this, but what I would do is just take a normal photo of the rug, transfer it to my Mac and open it with Photoshop to make a circular cutout, and then use that for 3D printing. Other than this, you might have to browse the app store and see what other apps might have this capability on the phone itself.
Those are definitely 5 apps that use lidar. Are there any that are actually useful? “Not super accurate” measurements and 3d scans you can show someone else, from the app, on your phone… isn’t helpful. What about apps that visualize repainting an entire room, that knows where walls start and stop, and what is trim and doors, so you can quickly switch colors. The only apps like that need a picture (so you can’t see all around the room), and use the old “paint bucket fill” feature that skips half the wall and bleeds onto the others based on shadows and light glare. Or remodeling (no just adding furniture, but having accurate 3d models of two rooms that you plan to add a door or wall off stairs. Something that is actually useful to a home owner
I have the iPhone 13 pro max in white 128gb and did an unboxing video on my channel! Absolutely love this phone. I also did a Spigen clear glitter case unboxing and try on, this is a great case if anyone is wanting a clear but slimming case for the 13 pro max. Love this phone!!!!!

My iPhone 12 Pro Max is so completely suited I've never (so far) been even tempted to upgrade. An app that locally reduces gravity might change that.
Just upgraded to the iPhone 13 Pro, and this is yet another great thing I was unaware of ... but now I can do! Thanks for creating this video!

Thank you Ramesh! I'm glad it helped so much and thanks for the sub!
it’s very clever that you put iphone 13 as well even tho the 13 wasn’t announced until 3 months after this video was released..
He changed the name after it got announced because they use the same LiDAR tech.
Skills.
You do understand that the Video title can be edited afterwards, right?
sitescape is very cool, its like canvas but it focuses on 3d modeling objects

Jsut FYI: When you measured the bench, you plaed the endpoint a tiny little bit beyond the end... that's probably why you got 91 instead of 90.
i noticed that as well
Cool! I just got a new iPhone 13 and can’t wait to try this feature. Thanks!
The measure app should have to option to automatically pinpoint start and end point based on object contrast. The first measurement you did was way off, that why the result wasn’t spot on.
yeah it was very clearly off visually, it would have been spot on if he just did it properly
It pretty accurate if done properly, usually the result off calculated only for 0.1 - 2cm depending on how long the object is.
Are there any other video creation apps for iPhone 13 pro like the holoapp?

The measure feature, isn't using AR and not LIDAR?
Is there any chance an app that lets me scan my room and rearrange it in AR
How accurate would it be to measure something farther away. Say the width of a fence from 15 to 20 meters away?
The further back, the less accurate, but I'm not sure how far back is the limit before its totally inaccurate, because I haven't tested that
