This is exactly what I want to see in videos on TH-cam that teach guitar: A relaxed, chill, motivating instructor who knows what they are talking about and make you feel as though you are in the actual room with them. Nice video! Thumbs up.
Dude! I will be practicing more because I can now create a sound that I like while becoming proficient instead of the boring stuff I was forced to do previously. Thanks
The one finger per fret hammer on exercise is an awesome variation of my regular go to for teaching student's fingers where to go and how to get there... I'll be incorporating this in my studio teaching for sure! Thanks for all you do, Tony! ~Dave
Thanks a lot! I am a guitar teacher and this video helped a lot to teach to my student. Later I will apply it. Now I know that I was missing the part of the speed and confidence. Greetings!
I was really struggling with hammer ons because i didnt know you had to be so fast. Now i can actually hear the notes im playing! Thank you so much this helped me a lot.
I Totally dug this! I've been just teaching myself guitar by feel and ear over the past year and I never knew "how" or "what" style I was playing due to me not knowing all the terminology etc.. I knew I wasn't doing all the normal stuff most lessons want you to learn, but I feel like if *A. it sounds *Good to me and *2 If I *Like it. Then I'm okay with it and I don't need to be following "rules" on how I supposed to play. I did figure however Whatever I was doing couldn't be a new thing, I just didn't know what it was called and pretty much haven't really seen people play like this. Turns out, I'm playing Hammer Ons! Thank You!!
Finding these Acoustic Life videos have helped me build a proper foundation and learn what I thought were "tricks" to really I prove my playing. Thank you for the lessons.
Beautifully done! At first I thought my hands were too small for fret-fret hammer-ons, but that exercise helped me bring attention to both my hand AND body posture that pretty much fixed it! Thank you!
Oh, and if anyone else has the small hand struggle too, you can also try starting the exercise on the second or third fret so they're a little closer together. It's good to struggle, but not so much that you feel hopeless!
This steel guitar responds well to the pull off's and hammer on's. WOW! Excellent sound and great practice/warm up. Couple that with the four note blues riff you taught... pretty cool!!
Wow!!!! Just what I was looking for! I'm learning Suga Suga by Baby Bash and couldn't figure out how to do the hammer on ons correctly until I watched this. Thanks!
Thanks for the exercise. I'll tie it to the metronome. 1/8th notes- One &/ hammer on. I'll start at 40 bpm & go up & down the neck. Not all at once of course. Lookin' forward to it. Thanks again.
This is the best video I’ve seen analyzing Omori in a long while! Thank you for the amazing video. Omori is my favorite game of all time. Truly a masterpiece.
Tony's demonstration style is excellent for starters and this video on hammer-ons is no exception.....very practical demo and not condescending......Cheers.......PeterBeGood
I'm new and pretty much learning to play myself. Your video I found a great explanation of hammer ons . It has so far worked great bro. Appreciate the video
This is awesome, very well explained into what to do and what not to do. This help me find the right form and make the notes really pop rather than fade out softly
Ok, i have a question. In a situation where im hammering from open string to a fret that is close to 12th fret, i hear a non intentional note coming from the oposite side of the string (vibration from fret to the nut). Is there an elegant way to solve this? Right now im hammering with two fingers one doing the hammer on, and the other behind it is doing the muting, but im wasting resources like that (fingers) and i cant really relax with playing like that i always need to focus on the light touch of the muting finger (if i dont it as well vibrates the string from the opposite side)... Any tips?
Hey Tony your tutorials are always awesome...I would like to better understand where to hammer on when playing a chord. Thanks for your time! Blessings.
thanks so much... I am an adult beginner and finally I get hammer on and pull off. although I still dont have much control over my individual fingers... I can get a go of it now.
Thanks for posting the video.I liked the sweet spot technique of the hammer- on. I always wondered why my hammer-on is not so effective and you had an answer to it.Regards !
Hi, Tony and Acoustic Life channel subscribers! Love your channel! I'm a brand new player and I've learned so much from your videos. I recently bought a new guitar, and am receiving inconsistent feedback about an issue I'm having with hammer-ons. I just need to know if it's the guitar or if it's me. Essentially, open string hammer-ons sound great on the lowest few frets. Once I get higher than the 3rd or 4th fret, despite hitting what appears to be the "sweet spot," I am getting a terrible metallic, clanging sound with open string hammer-ons. Is is possible it's a technique issue? Fretted-note-to-fretted-note hammer-ons sound ok regardless of where on the neck I'm playing. Some have told me that's just how it is with acoustic guitars (i.e., the metallic clang on the upper frets with open string hammer-ons), while others have told me I should send the guitar back. I'm reluctant to send it back b/c I absolutely love the instrument. What do you suggest?
Great explanation! I still struggle so much with the speed of my fingers for the hammer on. I’m thinking it has more to do with weakness in my left hand from an old injury. Does anyone here lift weights or can recommend something to strengthen those muscles and tendons for that “hammer” motion?
Enjoy your videos and explaintions are easy to comprehend. Maybe a video regarding trills. For the longest time I had a hard time with them, just recently while working on my timing that I was trying trills without thinking of timing. Then the lightbulb flicked on! Would still be interested in other tips or techniques that are involved with trills. Thanks! 👍🏼 and subscribed! Also interested in embleshments of chords in all shapes! Thanks again and rock on!

It's actually the most enjoyable thing to watch Aquaman teaching others how to play the guitar

Yes Tony great quick lesson. Follow it up with pull-offs. They give me a lot of trouble. I like these short lessons, just another tool.

I am struggling a bit with a hammer-on combo at the moment.
the song is to play the G and B strings alternately and in between those two strings I need to hammer on, that's the "rhythm".
and the chords for this are Em, C, and G.
Em, fully hammered, C index on Gstring rest hammered, and G fully hammered without high E string.
my problem is this park needs to change from Em to C, because my Indexfiinger need to be put on the site, and my power for hammering is completely different.
