  • @RamnoMusic
    @RamnoMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2949

    its amazing how good choice it was to make a movie about robots.
    Back in the early 2000s it was difficult to make organic characters look good and move naturally. Software just couldn't render and process things like ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering too well. Not talking about the immense work at texturing department to make skin/body look organic.
    However in animating robots you dont need that much. By the time this movie was made computers were able to run Glossy materials really well (compared to some other materials) Also since robots are made out of metal then the texturing can only focus on some displacements and rust layers. though the texturework is not fenomenal, it does the job really well. And since materialising and texturing robots is already made more efficent than with any other type of characters, then they could go all out in the animation, designs and lighting from which last two are especially good and optimal.
    In other words:
    The choice about making a robot movie made this movie age surprisingly well (from a technical standpoint. Script is something else)

    Unpopular opinion: Aside from kidnapping and killing live robots, I think the Sweepers and Chop Shop are doing an excellent service to urban areas by clearing them out of robot corpses and recycling them so that their metal can re-used for things like constructing new structures or fixing broken robots. If the Sweepers and Chop Shop ONLY recycled dead robots or robots who consented to this process (like how people consent to have their corpses used for science), then I think they would have a better reputation.

When the camera panned down to reveale Madame Gasket and the Chop-Shop, along with the fact that RATCHET was related to this twisted entity, it showed that the movie had a much darker sub-plot awaiting it and that Tim wasn't the only obstacle Rodney would encounter.

    I just love the way it reveals with the music what exactly these Sweepers are supposed to be
    The First level is in an alley where Rodney falls unconcious and it picks up a spare piece of junk looking very menacing and mysterious but nothing bad
    The Second level is in a shaded street spot to give the idea that these things are all over town but still nothing suspicious
    The Third level gives a foreboding presence with the sweeper being completely alone in the internal cogs of the upper world, like it’s sneaking off to do something bad
    And then the pits of the city where the belches of a Hellish Death Factory pound and drum through the air as it burns through the darkness. An entire colony of Sweepers gather into the entrance like ants to empty their hideous, hidden mouths to pay their tribute of scraps and spare parts to the Chop Shop
