  • Behind the Jump: Volume 5 - Quadrupedal Movement on Rails. A look at a variation on one of the fundamental conditioning exercises for parkour, known as quadrupedal movement or Groundwork. Working on railings, ropes and other thin obstacles adds a little extra difficulty to the drill.
GROUNDWORK draws on the primitive movement patterns observed at the earliest stage of humankind. Since the first step of human evolution, we have naturally been crawling, squatting and moving around on four limbs. This is the root of almost all locomotion before our body can stand up and combine movements in high gaits, and it’s how we learn to develop contra-lateral movement and builds the foundation for efficient biomechanics.
These are the same movements we naturally developed at a young age. The crawling phase of a baby is essential to the development of coordination, strength and musculature, so that he or she can progress to walking on two feet. Unfortunately, once we start to walk, we rarely go back to the ground, often leading to a lack of overall coordination and leg-dominant displacement skills.
GROUNDWORK offers a way to reconnect with your inner primal physical sense. There is a huge amount to gain by training low-gait and crawling techniques that develop a strong synergy between the upper and lower body. GROUNDWORK teaches bodyweight exercise skills that develop true practical strength, agility and body control

I totally love all the Parkour Generations videos! It's so great that the world is finally learning from the masters, I always dreamed with something like this when I first started in parkour, thank you so much! And I keep my faith that someday I might see Foucan or Belle into this. That's when everything would be PERFECT.

Great video once again. Its good seeing some people in the video who don't usually appear on TH-cam.
The Behind the Jump series is really turning into a great (and ever growing) source for parkour knowledge.

I like what they said about QM being excellent when you're injured. I am nursing a strained calf, but I am able to continue QM as it is low impact.

Tree branches are also good because they are uneven and they move and slope (up or down whichever your preference) and there's many branches to move between. My personal fav is a very large, solitary beech.
You can also do the reverse exersize hanging underneath. Although obviously this requires no balance you can use muscle ups to move from top to bottom.
(Tip: use Serious John's 'Awesome tree' in Maidstone ;oD )

Lol, can't say I didn't warn you about the rest of the movie.
I'm not obsessed with Kazuma to notice all the minute differences you pointed out between him and the actor. :P

Hmm, I never knew Kazuma was also in B13, I remember seeing Stephane in a small cameo though.
LOLing hard at your Kazuma-as-lead-in-movie-even-though-he-can't-act comment. You have to understand, I am a straight guy, I don't share the same sentiments about Kazuma as you.
The producers did you grave injustice though, they could atleast have put Kazuma in a bigger role in B13-U. :P

their going for slow and controlled, which works alot more muscles and "balance fibers" in your body. also, their trying to show us exactly how to do the movement without actually saying the specifics.

    Lol.
Try torrenting it, you'll be sure to find it.
A word of warning though - make sure you're just watching it for Kazuma's lookalike, the movie sucks big time, I had to turn it off mid-way.

Lol, when I first saw this movie

    (remove spaces)
I thought what the heck is Kazuma doing in it? And when did he get so tall? Then I realised it was another guy altogether.
Although I see what you mean. (I'm straight though)

So everyone in the neighbourhood had to suffer the consequences of one person's incompetence... typical overcautious mother-hen groupthink... people should take more responsibility for their own safety rather than blaming every skinned knee on 'the city'.
