Embracing artistic exploration and feeling inspired

Sometimes, stepping away from a current piece you're working on is just what you need to do when you're just not vibing with it. As artists, we tend to push ourselves and think that if something isn't working, we have to keep pushing through. The real answer is just to take a step back and think. Revisit the piece another day; maybe that problem is smaller than you thought. Stepping away from a piece also allows us to brainstorm new ideas and possibilities you might not have thought of before. I'm really happy I worked on my oil painting but also took a weekend off from the studio. I enjoyed embracing my artistic exploration, which led me to feel inspired to create a completely new/ different piece. As artists, we constantly gain inspiration from the world around us; it's up to us to let that exploration in.

Just a lil tip... When cutting canvas to size... just snip the right size and then tear it... It will follow the exact spot that you snipped... way faster and a cleaner straight line because it follows the threads of the canvas.

I’ve done that with raw canvas and it’s such a great tip! This time around I was using linen and I wasn’t sure if it would tear the same way as raw canvas. So, I just cut it to be on the safe side!

I think it's great to try out different approaches to working, like doing multiple paintings at once, especially when there's a deadline looming! Your comment at the beginning, "I know myself" stuck out to me though. There's no one size fits all, no should's or supposed to's. There's what works for any of us as artists and our own personal creative cycles. Sounds like you are tapping into yours. Love the early layers on the shadow painting too!
