    You hit the nail on the head. It is a survival kit, not a camping kit. Great video!
    Lots of comments about the tin not being metal. A small tin is pretty much useless for boiling water. You will lose more hydration than you gain in the attempt.
    Thanks so much for showing it off!

    A few glaring problems with this $150 kit. My tailoring ideas.
    1 No reason it should be plastic when having a metal container to boil water in would be more useful.
    2 A Suunto button compass is only $20 and I think it might be the third most important piece of equipment.
    3 I would rather have a SAK (Huntsmen) with a saw. (keep your ulou blade and crappy wire saw)
    4 A mini Bic. Some cotton balls and a small Chapstick to extend burn times.
    5 A triple A flashlight and an extra battery and a low setting used sparingly should last 2 or 3 days.
    (The duct tape/copper wire/cord/whistle/wire saw/fishing line "you'll be dead long before you even see a fish"/signal mirror/trail markers/zip ties are a waste of time and energy)
    I like the Wazoo water kit and everything else. But with the other items gone you could replace that cheap emergency blanket with a heavier grade SOL blanket that is a little bit bigger and won't tear so easily. It should fit, if it doesn't I would use that ranger band to wrap it around that kit. Fair?
    If you are lost in the woods walk east or west. You have a better chance of finding a road. That's why you need a good compass.
    Do not make a shelter, do not lay flat on the ground.
    If you have to spend the night sit up and off the ground with the blanket wrapped around you. That's why you need a thicker blanket. Make a fire if you can.
    Do not walk at night with a headlight (or a flashlight strapped to your hat). Use your vision purple especially if you have a full moon. I think you should walk all night anyway as most of the time it's cooler and you will generate heat. Wear your blanket if it is colder and generate your own heat and keep moving. This should not be a problem for an average healthy adult.
    I could put together a better survival kit (and I' sure the rest of you can as well) for half the price of this one (space not restricted) by adding a Mora knife and Frontier water filter as well and it would still be well under $150.
    I can and have covered about 10-15 miles in the woods (and I'm 66) walking all night dependent on terrain. But I'm 11B10 and your milage may very.
    That's not to brag but to say to you that this should be your mindset if you are going to walk out of this situation.
    After 3 days and covering a minimum of 50 miles total east or west you will be tired but should have found some form of water. You have been told you need a lot of water but you don't. And you don't need to eat. Most of you are fat and can live off of that for weeks.
    On the third day find a clearing in the woods and build a fire. A big one. With lots of leaves if you got them. If you are in snow your water situation is solved. That's why you have a metal container instead of plastic?
    Arrange a giant X with trees or shrubs in the clearing and start a bon fire at dusk and keep feeding it all night.
    That's what I would do.

    Really good video, Jake! I'm a big fan of Wazoo and micro kits for the reasons you mentioned. It really is a matter of what people are willing to carry and most won't take much more than a bottle of water. I carry a lot of stuff in my cache cap, belt & key chain. I really like how that kit includes a knife & you did a great job of showing how to improvise an axe. LOL! I love you reaction to everyone's thoughts on the mylar blanket. Nice improv shelter without doing the typical ridgeline thing. I think the outdoors world could use more videos like this.

Any thoughts on that idea? Thanks!

    I never go out in the bush without 3 knifes, one of them being a belt knife. For a short hike or walk usually have a haversack, small fire kit that includes lighter, stormproof matches petroleum cotton balls, SOL blanket, headlamp. Also have canteen/water bottle, compass. I don’t think anyone should even go out in the woods without these items at a minimum

    • @ONThree
      @ONThree 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We considered a metal container because people like them. But in reality, a small tin is pretty useless for boiling water. Making charred material is not something that is very realistic for short term survival as well. Just my opinion of course.

    • @ki4jlm
      @ki4jlm 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ONThree I can see where you’re coming from, but I look at from a plan for the worse hope for the best scenario and with a metal tin that would allow for charring material for another fire just in case what ever put you in the position to out over night may keep you multiple nights.

    Why is it with all this bushcraft out on a day hike and get lost or injured videos no one ever mentions a personal locator beacon or even that a lot of mobile phones can get an emergency message out and some of the other devices out there all priced not much more or less than some of these emergency kits and gear that's promoted for a stuck out in bush overnighter. If really is an emergency one of those will get you rescued. I don' t mean it to be critical and get the point of the video is an advertisement for this kit. but just find it odd that nobody seems to even mention these devices. Are they not a reliable option in the USA. In Australia these items are talked about and its law for all boats to carry them and highly encouraged when hiking or going driving in remote aeras or bush to have one or a what we call a flying doctor's radio or satnav phone at least. Maybe could be room for one these companies to sponsor your channel or school as further survival tool option.
