I love that you did this amp. Back in 1992 (somewhere near there) I bought it's little sibling, the D60 II to pair with my Orion 280GX in my minitruck. I used the D60 II for my doors and the Orion for my subs. I absolutely LOVED that little D60 II. I still find myself on eBay every now and then searching for a D60 II or D100 II. One of these day's I'll find one priced right and I'll get it. Compared to the wires hanging out of the amp that so many amps had at that time, the Soundstream connections were just so beautiful when installed. I was looking to get another Soundstream amp to replace my Orion but it never came to be. Life got busy and car audio while always there took a backseat to my wife and our kids. But I still love the old school Soundstream.
I always loved the clean design of the Soundstream amps. As always, thank you for testing this old-school gem for us. Be sure to save moisture-absorbing packets when you get them and wrap one with the amp to help with rust. Good idea to have a couple in your toolbox as well.
Yeah, I have always like all connections on one side and the nylon terminal blocks were a nice clean look…not to mention tidy board layout and quality components.
I had a D60 II and a D200 II. Sound quality was great; but, they were kind of gutless. I replaced them with Art-series stuff from PPI and was happier - especially when it came to subs.
I had that amp back in the day, some Nelson Pass goodness. Loved that tiny thing. In fact I’m using a couple Nelson Pass amplifiers here at home, but only in winter, they produce a lot of heat!
I used to have a D60 front ended with an alpine 7915, it was a very clean sounding even at full blast. Used it to run my front door speakers. Great piece.
I use a Reference 200 to drive a pair of old 6.5 MBQuarts components and a JL 10” in tri mode for my computer monitors, in boxes that I made, they sound great. I have all this old 12 volt gear and this is a fun way to utilize it.
What i started doing with my old electronics which i wanted to keep in good condition is I vacuum seal them in food-saver bags. I live near the beach so it's the best way to prevent corrosion over time.

@@tonyferdaise5292 I believe all SS amps could achieve good sound quality ( pre 2000).These were not very high powered amps, but none of the other legacy brands of the time were either. Soundstream was always on par or better than what was offered in the early 90s .And usually on the cutting edge, and typically designed for high quality sound, as with all the other brands, but SS went about it a bit differently compared to RF, PPI, Orion etc, probably Zapco most resembled SS design philosophy more than the Arizona brands…imo.
Big D or anyone else reading this. I had a pair of 12 inch subs in the mid 90's made by Eletro Bass (EB). For the time they were massive. They weighed 25lbs a piece. They had a redish colored surround and the letters EB on the dust cone. Some of the best subs I ever had to this day. Does anyone have any recollection of these? When I look online it's like they never existed. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know.
Bro that amp looks so much like the a/d/s amp. Old school amps.
👌😬👍
As far I know nelson Pass designed the soundstream D 200 amp
Big D or anyone else reading this. I had a pair of 12 inch subs in the mid 90's made by Eletro Bass (EB). For the time they were massive. They weighed 25lbs a piece. They had a redish colored surround and the letters EB on the dust cone. Some of the best subs I ever had to this day. Does anyone have any recollection of these? When I look online it's like they never existed. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know. Unfortunately after blasting them around town my car was broken into and the entire system was stolen within a few months of me having them. Thank you in advance to anyone that has any knowledge of these they would like to share.
I found one on eBay has the accordion type red surround.
@@johnwilson7799 I checked it out. That is a cerwin Vega eb. The actual brand of the subs I had was EB (electro bass). Thank you for taking the time to look into it though. I hope you have a great day.
Think is was the low frequency line from EV (electro voice)
@@johnregister6437 the ones I had were definitely EB (electro bass) i still have a old printed picture of the set up. I wish I could find out something on them. I've tried for years to no avail.
There was a store that sold EB subs in Augusta GA in the early 90’s. I remember the store having an EB poster hanging, presenting EB’s promotional vehicle, a Chevy Lumina van, painted red with the white circle with EB in the center.
I purchased EB’s low end 12” that same day.
Wow. Back when soundstream made rates power.
And that's a wrap!!
That was tight.
awesome.............i had a d200ii
Nice!
You need to test a db aak-20,000.1 @.5 ohm at the highest possible voltage you can supply it. Nobody ever tests the monsters. I’ll send you one to test. I have 3. I’d need it back though 😂
Good video Good test. Yo big D. What up
Thanks buddy 👍
You already know how much I love Soundstream and especially their Class A and A/B amps. They were 1/4 ohm stable. I would say that may bring on the magic smoke. Enjoyed it Big D. I’m outta here!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
That “magic smoke” talk will piss off a few people that knew these amps well. User error was the culprit 80% of the time.
@@Assimilator702, that isn’t my intent. I have seen the abuse side. Owner stupidity was the usual culprit in most if not all cases. Abusing these amps is just wrong. Great sounding and stable. My favorite brand. Sold and installed at the store I worked.
Whmish i would've hrabbed a couple of Soundstream amps uears ago when they were the most affordable, lol 💪😢🙏
that heatsink for 100w amp huge .
Kinda
Takes a lot of heat sink to dissipate that 60% power loss
@@drozcompany4132 modern class ab amps are not much more efficient. But they use much smaller heatsinks .
How did I even miss this test?
Maybe because I created a second channel and confused people bully purring Amp Dyno tests here also. I’m now trying to keep the amp and speaker tests on my main channel. This will be literally for the “extra” stuff
Think these came out in 1990.had one
Yes I show the 1990 buyers guide in the video
I do know soundstream. We do not have it here in the Netherlands in that time
We do had soundlab .
Its not the same brand.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Mour old school!
This amp wouldn't fit under the seat of my s-10. Too tall. First time I mounted an amp to the speaker box.
Bummer!
test is nice whith 12v DC
I want to see the alpine
Guessing 50x2 before I see the dyno
Ha ha!
AL, audio logic
That SPL amp is a old power acoustic, so you all ready know.🤦🏼♂️
Yeah, will be one of "those" tests 😛
@@wal2 a stereo shop I used to work at sold those SPL as well as the Soundstream amps.
Even the larger SPL amps were more like a boss or planet audio..
Hey Big D, I'm currently accepting donations. I need two really good 8s and an amp.
Maybe give one away to your loyal subscribers
Big D I miss the good old days.. old school PPI PC (power class) Rockford Fosgate power series.zapco the driving force... don't buy anything made in CHINA ( Cheap Hideous In No Amplifiers)🙊🙉🙈🤥😹😸😺🤗😭🔥🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️
