I ran a pair of these on my front stage way back in the mid/late 90s, One amp per side, channels 1 & 2 powered the tweeters in the door, 3 & 4 ran the 5.25 mids in the doors and the sub channel drove an 8 inch bass driver in the kick panels. Sub Stage was 3 JL 10w6s on A Soundstream reference 10.0 all crammed in a prelude. One of my favorite and most reliable systems I ever had for all around listening
Yup. They played loud but not ear-piercing, and so clear and real.😢 I still have a Soundstream Angina in my closet. That thing is plenty loud to pound my chest and hurt unorotected ear drums.
I remember ordering the reference 700 at my local shop, as i saw the first ad for it. 3 months later, i finally recieved a reference 1000. I used it for a few weeks, and it burned up. Sent it back through a different dealer, and they sent me back a 1000s with the windowed caps. That thing was a monster that never died. It ran 3 JL Audio 12w6 subs... and at some point, a single rockford fosgate series 1, 15 inch in a huge sealed box. In my 1995 Nissan 240 SX, with the "Teamstream" sticker across the top of the windshield.
A lot of these expensive high dollar amplifiers didn't put out a whole lot of power because in the late 80's and early 90's speakers and subwoofers didn't need a whole lot of power to make them sound good or loud
It was about THD back then the cleaner the sound the better. Just because they went beyond what we can even hear. But truly clean power sounds louder than the number denotes it as.
Yup. A good 600W system back in the day was impressively loud and eye-wateringly clear. Nowadays, systems are so loud, concrete walls in houses rumble. I live in front of a main avenue, and some Jeep and Can-Am systems I hear for minutes before they finally drive by and hurt my ears even with the all the windows closed. No fidelity at all. Just immense, ungodly volume audible from miles away. Those people blast their unprotected ear drums with over 120 db for extended periods of time.
I loved Soundstream MC's back in the day! I remember a friend had one of these and Soundstream subwoofers in his bedroom. I believe the subs had a paper cone and the bass was so smooth...
Love old soundstream and precision power stuff. Wish they were made like this now , sadly not . I do like some of the new stuff since it looks like the og amps
Back in the day, I ran a MC245 running 2 component sets of Altec Lansing M625/TW2 with the paasive crossovers and 2 JL Audio 10W1 subs in a 4th order bandpass enclosure. That system didn't get super loud, but damn it sounded so clean!
@1ufcfanatic795 I still own a D200ii, D100ii, and 3x D60ii. Currently packed away in my closet. Someday, I'll have them all recapped and then put them up for sale. My current system in my '19 Ram 1500 runs 2x Alpine PDX-V9. Love how small they are while putting out 4x100/1x500 each.
I still have my a/d/s PH15. 6x50 watt amp that i had in my old Monte and Cutlass. It's been sitting for a long time, back in the box, since i pulled it.
On page 227 of my 1992 Car Stereo Review buyer's guide in the test reports & user's evaluations index section it shows the results where they tested it, here's the numbers @ 12 volts 47.5 x 4 plus 129.5 x1.
And TBH most people would have LPF engaged on sub channel so the power supply would be less strained than having all channels loaded. Again my test was worst case and with speakers this amp sounded amazing and I was happy with bass output as well
Still lovin the content Big D, keep it comin in 2024 brotha! From what little ive read, Soundstream was considered kinda top shelf going back. They even had a full home audio lineup at one point. Hope to see more old school brands, I know your gonna come across an 80s/90s Altec Lansing amp eventually!
...keep in mind, this amp is 33 years old, and probably some watts left in time. I believe this amp was designed by Nelson Pass, and modified by the late , great Wade Stewart.Wade designed the "Reference" series, which are some of my all time favorites.Wade designed all other Soundstream amps until around 2000, when they were sold to a Chinese conglomerate, and have never been the same. But Soundstream made some of the all time best and over the top, hand made in the United States amps ever made....I have about 20 of their classics, they are my favorites. Thank you so much Big D for the trip down memory lane in the last week of 2023...( it is New Years Eve, and I am tuned to your channel rather than getting loaded) Peace to you Brother and have a happy 2024....I look forward to whatever you bring me, Your the man Big D, Happy New Year My Friend
