    The fact that Air North can offer this level of service while being a smaller airline just shows that WestJet and Air Canada DO NOT care about customer service at all.

    I flew Air North a few weeks ago from round trip Vancouver to Whitehorse during a 4 day Northern Lights Tour. Very impressed with the experience. Polite staff, excellent in flight food, and on time performance. Definitely recommend Air North when visiting Whitehorse.

    Flew with them in 2023 from YYJ-YXY-YYZ and it was terrific. I started my aviation career in YXY in 1970 with CP Air. We also had Great Northern Airways, Wien Consolidated, International Jetair and Trans North Turbo Air. Great times and great memories. Always enjoy your posts.

    I need to ask you a favor Alex. Can you send someone from Air North catering down South and teach those airlines south of Canada how to do real catering for an airline? Millions of customers would greatly appreciate Air North's efforts.

    Great video! I always enjoy watching your experiences with airlines I’ll never get the chance to fly. If I can be a bit avgeeky for a moment, I have a trip recommendation: WestJet just recently moved to DTW’s McNamara Terminal on flights from Calgary and Vancouver, which I think is super unique considering it was just Delta in that terminal for a long time. I feel a lot of pride for the McNamara terminal as it’s a pretty cool experience for my home airport, so I’d highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking to come and visit Detroit!

    Air North is excellent to fly on. I flew on their 735s r/t Vancouver - Whitehorse around Christmas 2022 for a Northern Lights tour. As the weather was very bad, AC & WJ basically cancelled every flight out of YVR and Air North took on many AC passengers in the name of Christmas. The staff and crew were extremely kind and jolly at their job. Because they took on extra passengers, and we were in the back of the plane, they ran out of breakfast when they got to us and they were profusely apologetic about it. (Luckily I had lounge access at YVR so we already ate...)
    Glad to see my favourite Canadian airline expand to bigger and better...

    Whitehorse should have been upgraded for heavies years ago as it should be an emergency alternate airport given the traffic flying over it. Unfortunately, getting the federal government to spend money in the Yukon is like pulling teeth. This has frustrated me for years.

      White horse is capable of taking heavies. Back in the 80s a Canadian Airlines DC10 did a charter their for the Shriners and on 9/11 two Korean Air 747-400 label their when US airspace was closed. The runway has been extended since then and Condor over the years in the Summer fly their with B767s

      @thearsenalmisfit2414 only on 14R or if the aircraft is under weight. It's not fully rated to take anything at any time. Fedex did a 777 emergency landing but had to lighten the aircraft to take off again. I'm saying the runways should be able to be used regardless of winds or weights.

    Whitehorse's airport always had a restaurant upstairs when I lived in the Territory, perhaps it was closed up when you were last there Alex. I will absolutely agree that the restaurant provides some awesome views of the tarmac and going's on up there which look to be pretty substantial from what I saw in your video. The jetway you boarded from was the newer of the two. Whenever I flew out on Canadian Airlines, we used the other jetway...Then, the only one in Canada's north.
    Great video by the way. I do wonder though...Is there enough of a market for Air North to fly the 800's with their huge passenger capacity? I might almost think that Air North going to A220's would be an appropriate move given the capacity those planes provide with their much better fuel economy...but then do they have ovens to warm up the cookies?

    • @denhamdejong2992
      @denhamdejong2992 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I know we briefly looked at A220's, but it was decided to go with the NG's for fleet commonality. We've been filling the -800's particularly on the Alberta loops, Vancouver does good as well. I believe the old restaurant closed during Covid and the BWB has now taken it's place.

    I suspect that Air North bought an 800 based on a bargain price, and that those seats are going to be hard to keep filled. Maybe hand loaded air cargo is the solution. Sitting in front of a CFM56 is like an Electrolux vacuum. It makes a distinct groan. The oldest Bobby seats were much heavier, and I'd like to see 200's refitted with modern Rockwell Collins seats to save a lot of weight. I would regard extra small Bobbies like 200, 500, and the rare 600 to be less strained and easier to keep filled. The heavy check has the last word.

      No. Anything newer than the Jurassic 737's have an engine inlet too large for keeping gravel from getting sucked in. It's why Dawson City's airport got a paved runway as the regular charter flights between Fairbanks and Dawson when Air North's 737-200 with a gravel kit got retired.

    • @lunadook
      @lunadook 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Westjet, Porter, Flair, and Air Transat don't fly to Whitehorse, so the only comparison that could be directly made is to Air Canada.
      If you're willing to book a few weeks out you can catch Air North Vancouver -> Whitehorse for as cheap as $200 one way at regular cost ($300+ if you're booking closer to the flight date). Air Canada will also do the same flight for about the same cost if considering the lowest economy fare, but that would mean no checked bags, or seat selection, or any sort of refund, whereas Air North includes 2 checked bags in both of their tiers, along with seat selection upon online check-in for no fee and a somewhat generous return policy (if cancelling 24 hours after booking, $80 bucks deducted from cost of flight, rest is put on credit with them for a future flight). If you wanted the same number of checked bags and other perks you'd have to pay 300-400 one way, plus another 50-60 bucks for the 2nd checked bag.
      I based these prices off of flight prices for a round trip flight from Jan 8 to 15, 2025 with both airlines.
      The other thing is that Air North includes the taxes, surcharges and other fees into the prices you see immediately on their booking assistant on the website, whereas Air Canada only shows the fees once you've selected both of the flights for a round trip itinerary.
      For a full round trip with cheapest fares Air North came out to 441.54 for the above dates, whereas to get the same perks you'd pay nearly 700 with Air Canada (613 + 50 for a second bag each way, choosing economy flex for the first checked bag and seat selection).

    I see Air North has discontinued Ottawa/Toronto service which with only two planes they could hardly manage. Perhaps Condor has come to the decision that the Yukon has outlived it's appeal to the Germans. I can't imagine what appeal it has to anyone else!

    • @moonbowplushie
      @moonbowplushie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You fucking buffoon.
      1. Ottawa/Toronto service is seasonal. It took me 2 minutes to find that information.
      2. Condor had to stop flying to YXY because of renovation work being done to the runway and their own planes being upgraded to the neos. Condor literally worked out an agreement with Air North for this exact scenario and offers to connect you through to Whitehorse on Air North on their website.
      3. Outlived its appeal?? All the international tourists I see year round would disagree.
      You seem to have some deeply ingrained issues you need to work through to have so much hatred towards a region my dude.

      Since it seems like youtube blocked my previous comment:
      1. Ottawa/Toronto is a seasonal flight. You can check it on their website in 2 minutes.
      2. Condor had to stop flying to YXY because of renovation work being done to the runway, but also concerns about the airport being able to service flights as big as their neo fleet. They have figured out an agreement with Air North for this exact reason - you will be connected to Whitehorse on Air North if you book through Condor's website.
      3. All the international tourists I see year round would disagree about Yukon "outliving it's appeal".
      You seem to have some deeply ingrained issues you need to work through to have so much hatred towaqrds a region. I hope you find happiness in your life some day.

      @@moonbowplushie I know right, Fraserway and the other RV rental companies would go out of business overnight if the Germans stopped coming! Not to mention all of the tourists from Japan and other east Asian countries visiting in the winter to see the northern lights, and the Americans coming off the cruise ships in skagway. Yukon has not outlived it's appeal.

    Does an Air North and Canadian North merger make sense financially for a stronger airline for the territories with the ability to purchase newer aircraft and get better discounts from Airbus, Boeing, and ATR?

      Canadian North and First Air had enough problems getting government approval for their merger. I doubt the government would approve a merger that would result in just one airline for all 3 territories.
