Easy 3 Ingredient Taiwan QQ Sweet Potato Ball (台湾QQ地瓜球) : Crispy Chewy Sweet Potato Ball

    A trip to Taiwan is not complete if you have not tried this famous snack sold in most of the night market.
    Its a simple blend of sweet potato, sugar and tapioca flour. This snack is Crispy on the outside, Chewy in the inside. Perfect snack for anytime of the day. Here you can try to make it at home.
    Ingredients :
    100gm Orange Sweet Potato
    25gm Sugar
    45gm Tapioca Flour
    Method :
    1. Peel sweet potato and cut into slices.
    2. Steam the sweet potato until soft.
    3. Mash while its hot and mix in the sugar.
    4. Add tapioca flour to form a dough.
    5. Roll into a long log and cut about 2cm thick.
    6. Roll into a ball and fry at 160c. Half way frying press the dough in the oil and it will double its size.
    Continue frying until golden in color.
    7. Cooldown and serve if you u can wait that long 😂
    Note :
    There are different type of sweet potato and each is slightly different so adjust the sugar and tapioca flour to form a smooth dough.

    Looks great! I tried another recipe once and it was nice and round when hot in the pan. After it cooled down a little, it deflated. Yours still look good. Will try this recipe!

      Hi joy, this recipe will aslo deflate a little bit after cooldown but it is like this. 😊

      I think it's possible to add gula melaka as substitute although I've not tried before.

      Hii ..i hv the same issue ..but i double fry it..after i took out , it will deflat abit..thn i turn up the fire and put it back, fry till it brown thn take out ..this will make the shape more fix n crispy

    some other say tapioca flour and sweet potato flour are interchangeable, but I have tested not. The QQ balls made by sweet potato flour are not hollow. It's like a fried solid sweet potato balls.

    Made it and it tasted super chewy and gummy. Perhaps it’s the airfryer. But think I’d mix something like an egg white next time I try it.

      Yea you can. But I find the purple 1 to be a bit on the dry side. So slowly add in the flour.

      You can't, it has to be tapioca flour for texture.

      Im not sure if this can be done with air fryer
      As it needs oil to crisp up.
