What If Edward was in 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad'..?

- Many of you would know that I did an audio story explaining Edward's absence in the 2000 movie 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad'. It was also said that there was not enough screen time for Sodor's No.2 Engine, which I strongly disagree with.
But what if Edward had been in the movie? What would his role be? And if that was the case, who would be his voice actor, or as you will see, voice actors..?

It's very sad that Edward didn't appear in Thomas and the Magic Railroad. Here are my thoughts about what could happen if Edward would've appeared in the movie. I agree with everything Keifer said, but what if Edward actually kept a secret from the other engines about knowing Lady when she first came to Sodor and they worked together before Diesel 10 chased Lady and crashed her. Edward would've come to put her back on the rails and Burnett Stone asks Edward to take both Burnett and Lady back to the Magic Buffers. Then when Diesel 10 returns to find Lady and to try and destroy her, Edward keeps his secret from the other engines and doesn't tell them until he tells Thomas and Percy about knowing Lady and about the Magic Buffers years ago and Edward, along with Mr. Conductor, would encourage Thomas to take Lily through the Magic Railroad to Muffle Mountain. And then after the chase and Diesel 10 is defeated, both Percy and Edward would join Thomas and Lady at the special platform with the water well when Mr. Conductor and Junior get the new gold dust.
This is a great idea aswell!
Edward should’ve been in TATMRR, because that would’ve been great if this movie wasn’t box office failure.
Funny thing, Henry's lines about why Diesel 10 wants to find Lady were supposed to go to Edward before his model was damaged. that's why Henry's voice goes from sounding British and wise to congested and American for the rest of the movie.
His model wasn't damaged. He just wasn't written in all of the original scripts cause they couldn't think of anything to utilize him that would add any value to the film.
His model could've also had some trouble running due to the bad shipping of the models
Adding Edward to the movie would've probably made it a bit better.
Edward would be a major plot point as he is the oldest engine on sodor and maybe he has stronger connections to lady

While TATMR is my all-time favourite movie, it would have been cool if Edward had been in the film.
Edward's role would've added a bit more weight to the film, given how old and wise he is. Toby can't take all the credit.
Edward would probably be a big player in this cause he knows more about the island

That I agree with Kiefer Adams, in fact he was in one fan cast video at Tidmouth sheds after seeing Gordon being rude to Thomas, he said, “Shut up, you’re all jealous!” Then after Thomas sulking, he added, “Cheer up Thomas!” Then after Thomas said, “Little engines can do big things, especially when they have nice blue paint like me!” Edward finished with, “That’s a good engine!” Think of that
It sucks that Edward was never planned to be in this movie, though tbf I can’t really imagine him doing much if he was in it. But this is a great way to make use of him in the movie.
"Thomas the Tank Engine and the Magic Railroad" was the only "Thomas the Tank Engine" movie that premiered in movie theaters. I'm wishing that they would create another theatrical "Thomas the Tank Engine" movie that'll be about the Fat Controller and how he came to be Sir Topham Hat.
I think that John Bellis( the original voice for Thomas in the magic railroad) had a perfect voice for Edward. But I will agree that Michael Angelis would have been a good choice for Edward. Overall, I loved this, what if? And I'd love to hear and see more of them from you.
In the chase scene Burnett said to Diesel 10 "the magic you refuse to believe in", even though Diesel 10 DID believe in the magic. Burnett originally said that to Boomer in the original version because even though Boomer didn't believe in magic, he was the one who was after Lady because half of her is literally made out of gold so Boomer can take her golden parts to make money. I know many people don't consider Boomer as the villain, but if you ask me, I think Boomer destroying Lady just for money is more realistic than destroying her to destroy magic. Lady doesn't have to be a magical engine, it's not mandatory. The final cut does not make sense to me because it implied Diesel 10 "returned" even though there was never an episode of him coming to Sodor and his plan is so stupid because Burnett said that Diesel 10 crashed Lady, but then it cuts to another scene of Diesel 10 saying that Lady escaped from him. How did she escape from him even though he crashed her?! That doesn't make any sense! And how did Burnett bring Lady back from Sodor to Shining Time?! She can't do magic after she crashed, right?! And another thing, Diesel 10 didn't do anything to find Lady! All he did was lurk around, harass the engines and make an idiot out of himself! Yes, Boomer did lurk around and harass everyone in Shining Time, but he didn't get himself into any comeuppance and he did work hard to find Lady because he is smart enough to know where she was hiding, in Muffle Mountain. And he worked hard to dig up the mountain to find her, first with a shovel, second with a digging excavator, and third with explosions. And there's another thing I want to point out, in the final version Thomas rolled down the mountain because of some random wind. But it was originally Boomer's explosion that caused Thomas to roll down. With Boomer removed from the film, all these are so confusing and makes Burnett and Lily's inclusion to the story worthless. I see a lot of fans saying that P.T. Boomer is a useless character. I respectfully disagree with that statement. The REAL useless character was Mr. Conductor. Think about it, all he ever did was talk to the audience, talk to a ball and bat and go on a wild goose chase in the woods losing his mind! Alec Baldwin should've only just been the narrator in the movie and NOT a character! Also, it wasn't necessary for Shining Time Station to clash with the Thomas universe, I know Britt Allcroft just wanted to do something creative for a Thomas movie, but this is not the way to do it. I think the subplot with Lily and Burnett would have worked if it didn't involve magic, talking tumbleweeds, sentient rabbits, Mr. Conductor, Stacy Jones, Billy Twofeathers or the entirety of Shining Time Station! I think a story involving the bond of a girl and her grandfather should have been more compelling, especially when the grandpa was grieving the loss of his wife and needed to go through some emotional baggage. And Lady doesn't have to be a magical engine, she could just be an old engine that needs to be restored and with a real-life basis. Sodor should be more real and British with real life humans instead of wooden figures and the engines should NOT drive themselves. The Thomas Characters from seasons 1-5 should've appeared and cameoed. Sir Topham Hatt should have more involvement in the film instead of being the Phone Guy (FNAF reference LOL), the same goes to Thomas, he's in the title and should have more screen time along with his friends. Lily should be a well written character and have more of a personality instead of asking a dog which train to take which is ridiculous, same goes to Burnett. I think Patch is a decent supporting character, so he's fine. And Boomer should've been more of a better written and compelling character to be THE FIRST human villain in Thomas & Friends universe, the first human to ever wanted to scrap an engine, and most importantly the one who owns and operates Diesel 10. Speaking of Diesel 10, I hate the final cut version of him, it had more to do with magic and Mr. Conductor instead of saying to scrap all the steam engines so diesels can take over. And what's with his voice in the final cut? It's too cartoony and too American for a British built diesel. The original cut with Keith Scott voicing him sounds way better and British. And I also hate the final cut because of Percy and James' voices, they sound too girly! They're guys! What the hell?! And I also hate the trend of Gordon being mean in the movie and the rest of the series! He and Thomas formed an alliance together, "United we stand, together we fall. You help me, and I help you." DOES THAT RING A BELL?! And Henry should NOT use special coal anymore! And the chase that led to the big viaduct seems dangerous in my opinion, it should've led to a smaller bridge that's breaking and needs repairs. I enjoy Junior as a comic relief more than the next guy, but getting himself fling by a windmill is dangerous.
I wish Edward Was In Magic Railroad
I always picture either Patrick Breen or John Bellis to voice Edward in MRR if he did appear, but Michael Angelis also works well too.
If Duck, Oliver, Donald & Douglas also appear (and George and Cranky being kept) in the film, I imagine their voices as this:
Kevin Frank as Duck
Michael Angelis as Donald and George
Neil Crone as Douglas and Cranky
Patrick Breen as Oliver.
Just a thought (no other VAs like Lee Cornes for example though cause it's all recorded in Toronto, similar to how the UK and US dubs of the CGI Series each are recorded in the UK - so it's very complicated to get someone else from overseas just to do the voice. Even John Bellis, Michael Angelis, Keith Scott and Patrick Breen had to be flown up to Toronto to record their lines in a mere of 4-5 days).
If Mavis, BoCo, Bill, Ben, Terence and Trevor appeared in the film, here's what I think their voice actors would be like:
Colm Feore as Terence/BoCo
Kellie Martin as Mavis
Michael Angelis as Trevor/Bill
Patrick Breen as Ben

It would make sense for Edward to have known Burnett stone and lady and the conductor family

I'd like to think Rowan Atkinson, the voice of Zazu in the 1994 animated Disney film "The Lion King", would be a decent choice for Edward in both American and British dubs of TATMR.
When I first watched Thomas and the Magic Railroad many years ago I though that there would more characters like Edward, Duck, Donald Douglaus, Bill, Ben. Oliver and the rest of the characters but unfortunely that never happened, plus I was expect to see Gordon, Henry, James, Percy and Toby at the end of the movie with Thomas and Lady.

But if they appeared in the movie, I think Duck could be voiced by Ringo Starr, Donald, voiced by George Carlin, Douglas, voiced by Michael Angelis, Oliver, voiced by Peter Saills, and Duke, voiced by Christopher Lee. These are the characters with voice actors I can think of.

In my head, I think Edward would have seen the lost engine for himself. He knows something the other engines don't.
That makes a lot of sense because he is an old wise engine who's been on Sodor since 1915
He probably helped Burnett move lady to his workshop

Great video. When I first saw the movie, I couldn't understand why they'd left him out. Apparently, some of the models got damaged in shipping, Edward's included. And there wasn't time to repair or replace it. It's truly a shame. As for the voice actor, for the UK dub, I would have cast Sir John Hurt as his voice actor. He did aging character voices pretty nicely, i.e. Mr Ollivander from Harry Potter, and Hazel from Watership Down.

Yeah he was accent from that movie, and we were sad and heartbroken that he doesn't appeared. But we can make it better.
Unfortunately i don't think Edward appearing in the movie wouldn't of made a difference of how terrible it ended up being, he undoubtedly would've only had a minor role like Toby speaking for only one or two small scenes at least, and the film still would've bombed regardless due to it's poor reception. Might just be my opinion... but i'm thankful Edward was spared being part of such a meandering mess that doomed the outlook of the franchise going forward.

That's very good. If only Britt and the makers had thought of that and kept Edward in the film regardless. Would've be awesome. In my CGI styled remake, I'II feature Edward in it.

It Bothered me Edward wasn't included in the movie when he was the one that started it all Edward was created first not Thomas that alone should have gotten him the spot.

Edward and Henry being the ones with the most knowledge of D10 and his backstory is an idea I had too, it just feels right for them to be treated as:
Edward - Wise and knowledgeable
Henry: Knowledgeable, but still has a temper that overshadows such, similar to S5, which we do see a little bit of in the movie.

I wounder if anyone would ever try and do a fix it for Thomas and the Magic Railroad. I mean I do like the movie and thought it was alright. Didn't actually know that a lot of people didn't like it because I liked it. But I do still want to see someone do a Fix it.
Also when I wrote a sequel of sorts on my AO3. I explained where Edward was and that it was basically Sir Topham Hatt took him on Holiday. I also mention Duke and Oliver as well saying that they are working on another line. I also have Edward help in the end where he basically tells Sir Topham Hatt what Diesel 10 is doing. Basically having Sir Topham Hatt show up at the end and tell Diesel 10 off before banishing him to the Smelters Yard.
Or send him away back to the Mainland.

i'm finishing my first movie, based on THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD THE DIRECTOR'S CUT and Wallace and Gromit crossed over together. Edward is called Elward for female, James is Jamesica and Percy being female, Their have been changes too. Duck 's actual name Montague to Lucy, Donald and Douglas, Oliver to Mary, Diesel to Amarlia, BoCo, Mavis and possibly Daisy and the Skarloey Railway. I think Pierce Brosnan would of made a good voice of Edward or Helena Boman Carter. Plus Emily appears in my version, plus Bear, Murdoch, Rosie, Molly, Rebecca and Nia
Well done Kiefer. Edward should have been in Thomas and the Magic Railroad in the first place where either Boco, Derek, Mavis, or Donald and Douglas would have taken Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt. Your video just gave me an idea: you could release What If Thomas videos weekly depends on requests/ideas from your fans. In fact, I have a few ideas for your next What If videos:
1. "What If 'Thomas and Friends' was still a permanent 60FPS Clay-Faced Model Series while owned by Disney" where the show was still with 60FPS Clay-Faced Model Series, along with the CGI-Audio and Voice-Stars we heard in the CGI-Era, and show lasted forever, while never cancelled, along with images of what CGI-Characters that each didn't appear at the model one with these details:
A. Thomas and his Friends show up at Disneyworld-land
B. Many live-action Thomas and Friends Disney movies and series with these very models
- Crossovers, Christmas, Once Upon a Time: Thomas and Friends
C. Disney's Thomas and Friends: The Musical where the stars would wear identical costumes from Starlight-Express
D. Have Thomas and his Friends join Kingdom Hearts
E. Let Emily, Rebecca, Nia, Rosie, Molly, Kana, and the female characters team up with the Disney Princesses
etc.
2. "What If the upcoming Thomas and Friends movie and then Thomas and Friends finally revived could be owned by Disney"
3. "What If Thomas, representing Sodor, was the main character in Starlight Express and Starlight Express is also adapted as 60FPS Clay-Faced Model Musical Film where Thomas and the characters there voiced by many famous stars"
4. "What If 'Thomas and the Polar Express' also existed" to celebrate "The Polar Express's" 20th Anniversary
5. "What If there could a movie about Wilbert Awdry" where it would be Entitled: "The Thin Clergyman" a Coming-Of-Age Biographical Movie about Wilbert's whole life from childhood all the way to his final days with actors each resembling Wilbert through the years reenacting everything he did and then it could win the Academy Awards
Those are great alterations! Like everybody else, I started to question why Edward wasn't in the film. It would make much better sense for him to replace a few of Henry and Toby's scenes, also join Toby on spying on Diesel 10.
It would’ve been nice to see him share the spotlight with James, Henry and Toby in a few occasions. Noel McNeal would’ve been a perfect fit for his voice in the Final Cut.

Well my version, would have involved Thomas & Edward going through the magic buffers and going to muffle mountain.
And A Other Thing It Would cool to see Lady, Thomas And Edward Being chased By Diesel 10, P.T Bommer, Along With Splatter And Dodge. And causing His Tender To Make A Big Crash, Casuing The Big Dipper, To Crumble Into Pieces & Casuing Diesel 10 To Fall Into The Barge, But For Splatter & Dodge, They Would Stop Just In Time.
I really felt sorry for Britt Allcroft all the hard work of when she put on Thomas & The Magic Railroad didn't have very good previews. I wish it did because I like it a lot. I can see it was across two programs, Shining Time Station and Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. But I think I know why it had bad reviews, is because it was an American title and they had American actors and the truth is Thomas The Tank Engine doesn't belong to America it belongs to Great Britain. I mean I really like Alec Baldwin, Peter Fonda and Mara Wilson. Actually also when the Television series began 40 years ago, it was a very bad idea to be renarrated for the American version because I said It Belongs to Great Britain and there was no point because it's the same old English language. Of course they've also messed things up of changing titles of the Stories/Episodes because the titles of those stories were called named in the UK were from the original books. Infact not just Thomas The Tank Engine, but they did that to quite a few Children's programmes and films and again they shouldn't have renarrated and revoiced by the Americans ither because they belong to Great Britain and there was no point as it's the same old English language. I don't mind sharing them out there but renarrated and revoiced into their version should be banned. So please take that from me, it would better if was called Thomas & The Magic Railway and if they had proper British Actors and try to remember where these children's stories come from.
Duck Oliver Toad and the Scottish Twins should also have been in TATMRR in some way. I feel like the D10 mountain would be on The Little Western (the cliffside looks similar ngl)
I genuinely believe that the roles of Edward and Toby should’ve been reversed and Edward should’ve taken Toby’s role in Tatmr. Since Edward was a more prominent main character in the Alcroft era than Toby with 10 starring episodes while Toby had 9 starring episodes (I don’t consider Thomas In Trouble/Thomas Breaks The Rules a Toby starring episode, but the ttte wiki says it is so that’s why I’m counting it) and Edward is also a lot more important than Toby since Edward is the reason why the railway series and the franchise even exists. I think the reason why Britt Alcroft and David Mitton put Toby in Tatmr and not Edward despite Edward being the 6th boy while Toby is only the 7th is because they did more with Toby in season 5 than Edward since Toby had 2 starring episodes while Edward had none. I do genuinely believe that if Percy was female instead of male (but still have her be named Percy) then Edward would’ve appeared in Tatmr instead of Toby since Edward would’ve had 2 starring episodes in season 5 with Edward, Percy, And Old Slow Coach and Edward’s Good Luck Package since he would’ve been the 5th boy instead of the 6th. Because think about it, Gordon and Henry are the 4th and 5th boys and they appeared in Tatmr so the same would’ve been the case for Edward if Percy was a girl and they would’ve simply had given Edward Toby’s role as the old and wise father figure to the other engines. Edward would’ve had Toby’s voice actor and he would sounded the same as Toby. But do to how much David Mitton and Britt Alcroft loved Toby they would’ve given Toby a mention at the beginning of the movie saying that he took Sir Topham Hatt on holiday thus explaining why Toby would not be in the movie. I really wish we could live in that alternate timeline as I always felt sad that Edward was not in Tatmr, but he would’ve if Percy was a girl.
Would Edward be the one to retrieve the missing coal truck after Thomas fell down Muffle Mountain? I can’t stay there for Gos knows how long.

I Think Edward Should Have Taken Toby’s Role
That is an interesting take on the video. I heard that Edward was originally going to take the Fat Controller and Lady Hatt on their train from Knapford to their destination in thr first part of the film.

If Edward was in Thomas and the magic railway I think the movie would’ve not been a box failure but a excessive movie that could have change everything maybe we would got a squeal to Thomas magic railway called Thomas beyond the magic buffers maybe we get to see skarloey narrow gauge engine maybe to see other universe something like that

YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE THINKS THE TOBY DISTRACTION SCENE WOULD BE PERFECT WITH EDWARD! Tho my reasoning is a little more niche, I’d have Edward be reluctant as the natural peace keeper and let Diesel 10 learn on his own, showing his passivity, where’s as of course Toby, immediately goes for getting a reaction, for the sake of a laugh, showing they’re both old and wise, but completely different philosophies.
Edward would know that some bad engines never learn, especially on how evil Diesel 10 is.

Kiefer. Your explaining that if Edward had appeared in Thomas and the Magic Railroad is perfection!!! I even loved the voice actor choices you gave him for the US & UK releases. I would have loved to hear Noel Macneal voicing my favorite Number 2 engine being voiced by a Jim Henson Puppeteer!
It's really strange was is not from that 2000 movie film for Edward, he was number 2. Or maybe was very small cameo?
If he appeared in the movie Edward would be voiced by Tara Strong in TATMR It would work so well
if Edward did appear in Magic railroad, Wouldn't he also replace James in the scrapyard scene where Diesel 10 thunders in and Junior would be flung onto his cab roof? I personally think that would be a cool scene and it would also show a moment of Edward standing up to Diesel 10.
Well what if Edward was with James and Junior in the scrap yard? He would be protecting them from Diesel 10, saying that if he wants them, he'll have to get through him.
@@ThomasLover-fr8nh that would be cool and another thing, If Edward was in Magic railroad, Wouldn't Thomas ask him to protect the buffers instead of Percy and later go and see and find splodge there and race back to warn Thomas?
@@HenryandJamesfan That would be a nice idea, but if Mavis was also in this movie, she'd accompany Percy in protecting the buffers.
I would have been really happy but his lack of appearance is why I find TATMR to be a problematic movie
