I’m praying for it to be released for the 25th anniversary in 2025. I’m saying I still really want the full Director’s cut to be restored and released one day, (the one that was shown to test audiences in March of 2000) the stuff we got on the recent 20th anniversary blu-ray (in my mind) is just not enough! Let’s just cross our fingers, and hope that someone like Dwayne Johnson, John Cena or Will Smith convinces Sony and Mattel to release the full Finalized original cut and rehire Hummie Mann to write a new score for it. Kind of the same way Dwayne Johnson convinced WB and DC to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman. I’m (someday) going start a petition to get the FULL Director’s Cut released and make people see why the stuff we got on the blu-ray is not enough! We need the full steamed and uncut version before 2100! I think the reason why people don’t like the work print is because it had no music. We need to find the version that was screened to test audiences that has temp music. I want it to be released with a new 4K version of TATMR.
I know we have the full workprint but just remember that the finalised original cut in full is still out there, we’ve only seen parts of it (the chase) If we’re unable to get the finalised original cut maybe someday we will be able to obtain all of the Workprints Assets and we can start from Scratch
We also have a shot of James tumbling down a set from the finalized original cut which was the scene where diesel 10 trying to back up James and junior
Notice that Thomas has different voice actors for each version? In the first version, he's voiced by Britt Allcroft, in the second, John Bellis and in the final, Eddie Glen.
He’s voiced by Brit in the workprint as they wouldn’t have had all of John’s lines initial finalised. It’s pretty common in voice over work to have someone fill in to get an idea of what lines flow better with the scene. Speaking of, I really liked the inclusion of Lily and Thomas’ brief interaction! Would’ve loved to hear that in the final film.
Correct; there is only two. Brit filled in pieces for the workprint to get a better idea of what lines they wanted to keep in the film. Keith/Neil and John/Eddie are the only proper finalised voices here.
I feel bad for Britt Allcroft. People blame her for ruining the movie (and possibly the whole Thomas franchise too) but it was really the fault of the stupid test audience that complain about how scary PT Boomer was and how the original voice for Thomas sounded too old or Diesel 10s voice sounding too frightening. They pretty much ruined the film and it makes no sense to have Burnett Stone say “No you won’t because the magic you refused to believe in will get the better of you!” to Diesel 10 as he believed in the magic as that was the reason why Diesel wanted to destroy Lady. That’s because the line was meant to be thrown at PT Boomer but when he was cut from the film the line was edited to make sure he wasn’t mentioned.

Being a fan of Thomas, I find it sad that they removed Boomer since he is a good antagonist along with Diesel 10, and thanks to him, several scenes make sense, for example when he tells Diesel 10 that the magic that he refuses to believe is going to defeat him, This makes more sense if you say it to boomer, plus it seemed that in the original version of the script Tasha was going to be mentioned more, it is sad to know that a movie, a good antagonist and many scenes and dialogues have been ruined by a few viewers ( use translator since I'm from Mexico)
Most people actually say the opposite because PT was pointless due to his goal of destroying Lady being like Diesel 10's, and was just pointless and made the movie far too overly complex.
@@SWDude2710 If I remember correctly in the work print diesel 10 didn’t know about lady’s existence right away I think it was later in the film when he heard Thomas and Percy talking about the gold dust and Thomas’ coal truck disappearing by the buffers and the possibility of a secret railway that he changed his plan
@@JacobAtherton true. That was, if I also recall, correct, but due to removing the human villain as he added way too much convolution to the story and was just pointless due to his exact same goal as Diesel 10, who was the Secondary Antagonist originally in the work print.
If they genuinely thought Boomer was too scary for kids they must be the most weak stomached critics on planet earth Boomer was just another average villian, nothing more nothing less
@@KalaschniKlown I think it was recently said that the real reason why P.T. Boomer was taken out, not because he was too scary but because he made the movie's pacing longer and focusing more on the human characters which the kids in the audience felt was too boring, and decided to make Diesel 10 the primary villain rather than a side villain. And personally... the test audience made the best choices. I watched the workprint and was bored as hell. I could see why kids didn't like the original version. After 20 years of build up of waiting, it made the trains and their plot less prominent to the plot.
4:24 Diesel 10: Aha! The blue puffball! And just look who else I found! 4:29 [SNARLING ANGRILY] Splodge, get up here and destroy! 4:44 Diesel 10: That makes two of us! 5:48 Diesel 10: [GROWLS] 5:51 [GROWLS] (sped towards Lady and Thomas crossly) 5:59 Puffball!
5:18 and 5:49 It almost looks to Me that Diesel 10 was voiced by Maurice Lamache (The Voice of Brain the Mouse, Lur the Alien and Sleet) Because of His Growl. Now Maurice Lamache would done a Great Job Voicing Diesel 10 Before Neil Crone.
Oh yeah, I have read they did a test screening in March 2000 before they planned to release it which resulted in the changes made by removing PT Boomer not just because the test audiences complained of him being too scary, but also because there were way too many human scenes (unlike how it is perfectly balanced in the May 1999 draft) taking up the percentage of Thomas and the other engines' screentime (according to Hummie Mann). I still don't get the interchange in between voice takes of Patrick Breen and Michael Angelis as Splatter & Dodge. For at least Neil Crone and Kevin Frank were kept on consistently in the final cut.
Also fun fact in the May 19th 1999 original script George the Grumpy Steamroller was meant to be written in the film as well serving as a minion of Diesel 10. He was tasked to smash all the buffers on Sodor including the ones that led to the Magic Railroad and if he succeeded he would be allowed to destroy the turntable at Tidmouth Sheds and turn it into a roller rink all for himself. But as the film progresses George eventually has doubts about what he is doing and turns against the diesels at the end and even outsmarts Splatter and Dodge. I feel like that version would give them a better excuse to not help Diesel 10 than for them to just say that they don’t like him. Unfortunately George’s model wasn’t brought to Canada for filming and therefore his role was cut shortly before filming.
I would like the character of P.T. Boomer will be repurposed for the new Thomas & Friends live action movie coming out in 2024. My casting choices to play Boomer in the new movie would be: Willem Dafoe and Nicolas Cage.
As much as that sounds great casting, I don’t know if it’s a great idea to bring back P.T. Boomer. I mean we don’t really need a repeat of Magic Railroad again unless they do something better and make the character feel like he would be in the world of Thomas similar to Sailor John from Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure movie. And Magic Railroad in my opinion feels like a movie that’s not really about Thomas and more like a story of a grandfather and his daughter going on an adventure but Thomas characters are just there just for Star power recognition. And also especially what Magic Railroad did to the franchise, from a series that was realistic and real for all ages to a silly kids franchise for toddlers. Even nearly 25 years later most of the general public think Thomas is just a franchise for little kids and not a franchise for all ages like how it was during the classic era. It’s not the worst thing to come out of Thomas especially in this day and age but whether if you like the movie or not it changed the franchise forever especially the public’s view on Thomas that continues to this day two decades later. So we probably need something that’s more true to what Thomas is all about and especially more respect on an official media for Wilbert Awdry besides fans preserving his legacy he hasn’t got any respect in an official piece of Thomas media in a long time since the Brenner and even the BWBA era. And even Magic Railroad didn’t even made a tribute to him despite the fact he passed away in 1997 three years before the film was released. Maybe they could bring back Diesel 10 since he’s beloved by many even fans that don’t like the movie. But I’m not sure if Marc Forster himself even likes Magic Railroad or not I did heard he is a Thomas fan but I’m not sure if he has watched Magic Railroad or not and also that movie failed at the box office so I don’t think they want to repeat a failed film from two decades ago. So I think they should just make a movie just true to the franchise in general and not dumb it down for kids and if the movie becomes successful maybe Mattel can realize that Thomas can be suitable for all ages again like during The Railway Series days and the golden age of the tv show. So it can show the general public that Thomas isn’t it just enjoyable for little kids but for everyone at any age because I’m pretty sure Thomas needs that level of respect especially stuff like the Hit era, BWBA, and the recent All Engines Go.
