Yeah my biggest problem was I felt like this movie was trying way too hard to be edgy as a PG 13 film and in a way that just made it seem more childish and dumb. I don't think an R rating would have completely saved it, but it would have at least been something.
The only legit moment I liked was when Eddy was eating everything in sight. That little munchy rush made me laugh

Don't watch it as a "Venom" movie. Forget everything you know about Venom and think of it as a "tentacle monster from space bonds with human" movie.
The movie is much better if you do that. I knew there was no way they were following Venom canon, so that's what I did.
It's a pretty good movie, one of the best movies I've scene actually. People are expecting too much out of it, and hence, they leave the theaters only reveling in what wasn't given to them, but there was so much fun and entertainment that this movie had to offer.
This Movie was allright . Just dont expect a comic adaptation ...

If that’s the case, then don’t call it “Venom”, call it something else. I’m tired of Hollywood taking established characters solely for their names and then ignoring the source material. Because they know people will go and watch it for the name, only to show up and find that it is not at all the character that we have come to enjoy. I have not seen this movie, I will not see this movie, because the best way to tell Sony and the rest of Hollywood to stop making crap movies is to STOP GIVING THEM OUR MONEY

Dear Thorias, you made good arguments, and i have to agree with you that making Venom origin story without Spiderman is... challenging, but in defence of Venom i have to say: Venom is masterpiece if compared to Captain Marvel. Keep up the good work.
The title of the film, "VENOM", looks like it just says "MONEY". Perhaps that is what the film is, and nothing more.

No surprise for a movie that was made "solely" to maintain a copyright.
As someone who never read Spider-Man nor any solo Venom comics, I can say I actually had a lot of fun watching this movie back then. I can get why the readers might no like when someone changes the original story of a character, but saying that it is terrible and not worth any atention from anyone is a little too much, it was a nice movie if you can detach your mind from the comics and the box office proved it.

I'll go in with low expectations when I see it soon and maybe there's a slight chance I may enjoy it.
However low your expectations are, lower them some more.
@@thoriasunlimited4053 I had watched the 2017 sci-fi horror movie Life with Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhall before seeing Venom and think It made it a bit more palatable. Their Eddie Brock as a journalist was just plain BAD maybe the part that was needed like Eddie doing a expose' story on the BBG beforehand ended up on the cutting room floor. Maybe a Directors Cut and bringing it back to an R rating could help. To me when a movie has too much eye candy (heavy CGI) it is usually trying to cover up for lack of plot or trying to mask plot holes, (yes I'm looking at you JLA). Watch Upgrade instead.
Only Hardy managed to save what would otherwise have been a forgettable movie

Honestly when a superhero movie strays that far from the source material I am simply not interested.

venom was good though. they didnt do a real venom story because 1 they cant toss spidy in there as it would conflict with marvel and be worse than it is and 2 does no one just enjoy movies based on entertainment value anymore? i mean common i walked away from the movie entertained which is all i ask for in a movie especially when i pay $50 for the night out
Though I'm disappointed that the movie didn't even try to translate the comic book origin, I still managed to get some entertainment value out of it. Venom's powers are depicted faithfully, and I did get a few chuckles out of the humor.

I don't understand the argument that if it isn't accurate to the comics then it isn't a good film. That's akin to picketing a construction company for not using wood from their first building in the new one. Why would you go into the theatre to watch a movie with the exact same plot line as the comics that came out 10 years before? If you don't prefer this specific iteration of Venom, that is completely fine. But why would you criticize it for not being like the first one? Whether you liked it or not is up to you, but can you at least judge it on its own merits and not the original's?
GOOD review! Thank you. I'm SO sorry Hollywood is out of ideas and has been for a decade. It hurts me to fact that fact. I LOVE, LOVE Woody as an actor. My heart aches for him that he got thrust into this thing. I thought he was STELLAR and Brilliant in his wonderful, understated role as Ira in Seven Pounds. Just terrific. All good wishes for 2020!
Basically, it's not the Venom from the comics. Simple as that. Once you have that out of the way, the movie ain't all that bad. Way worse shit ends up in theaters or on TV.
Yes, it should have been darker. As it stands, the movie was too happy-happy joy-joy. Which is peculiar since we're talking about a movie about a homicidal cannibalistic alien.
In a potential sequel, Eddie needs to gain some sort of control over Venom so he can actually physically object when Venom goes off the rails rather than just go "hey, I'm not ok with this".
Also, since this seems to be set away from the MCU, there's not really anyone who can go toe to toe with Venom except, sure, Carnage ... so then the sequel become a symbiote vs symbiote fight ... exactly like the first movie ... hmm ... ok ... not feeling it ... needs a twist of some sort.

I liked venom. It was a pretty fun movie. It was cool seeing a much more accurate take on the venom symbiote than the weird crap version we got in spider-man 3. Tom Hardy did have some reaaaally weird/cringey acting in a lot of parts, it kind of felt like he did the whole movie while snorting blow? LIke why was he always in a rush? Don't know.
But the Venom scenes were good. Just a good action/superhero flick without a lot of logic.
Basically it's a Venom sham! It's kind of ironic that the only person I recall the original Venom trying to kill was Peter Parker and JJ. Eddie Brock was Peters rival photographer at the Daily Bugle and eventually lost his job because of Peter. And of course Jameson never cordially fired anyone so Brock had a deep rooted hatred for both of these characters before he got the symbiote. Because Venom shared the same symbiote that was worn by Spider-Man, he was not only impervious to SMs spider sense, but he was one of he few villains that knew SMs secret identity. Eddie embraced symbiotes power unlike Peter who eventually rejected it. This is what made Venom such a great arch nemisis to Spider-Man. While he always had a major advantage in battle, I don't recall Venom ever successfully killing anyone seeing as how he was really only interested in JJ and SM. Eventually SM befriends Venom/Eddie. Originally they were forced to team up against Kledus Kasidy/Carnage resulting in an end to the rivalry between Venom and SM. Sony is really dropping the ball here but then they turn around and give us a masterpiece like PS4 Spider-Man. You won't find a better representation of SM aside fro the original comics. Hopefully will get to see an awesome Venom arc in the next game.

I wasn't expecting much coming from a Marvel era that was making movies you couldn't unsee. Lou Ferrigno is the only thing I had. LOL.
I actually went into this movie expecting to hate it because Sony, but I loved it so much I watched it twice. It was hilarious and fun and I thought the characterization of Venom sans Spider-Man made sense. And the buddy-cop dynamic between Eddie and the symbiote was great!
It was saying that Upgrade was a better adaptation of venom than venom.
So it’s not like the comics big deal I still enjoyed it and I think Tom hardy did a really good job.
sadly it will get a sequel.... it made 900+ million so you can expect at least 2 more.

I liked this movie, watch 3 times and still like it. So shut up! I didn't expect from this movie anything like you did and as you said you expect to suck and wow imagine that, it sucks for you. If you go and watch a movie with some expectations it is likely that you will be disappointed.
Yeah I totally agree. When it was Rated R for it's violence I was excited although at last minute they made it pg 13 to hopefully merge their characters with the MCU eventually. I wanted the Rated R or unrated version of the film too. I am glad venom didn't do anything spiderman because that wouldnt make any sense.. they also should of stayed with the original origin story. Oh you guys can tell when the film is on that biker chase scene it is the old Middle point of the movie and after that scene they just cut 40 minutes or so from there to the end portion of the flick that really did piss me off as you can tell that was the major plot hole area.

Little recommendation, I really like your videos and have been watching since 2010. But I think you'd get alot more exposure if you had better thumbnails. Your comtent has all the right ingredients to make it big, you just need to present the first impression better.

The thumbnails are a work in progress. It's something I tend to struggle with, but I'm trying to get better at making them.

Sorry but all you said almost the entire time is that the movie is awful, and almost everything about it is awful without actually saying what is bad. Barely giving any examples at all. After watching this I still have no idea what is so bad and can be improved on. This is more of a rant than a review to be honest.
Looking at the box office this weekend looks like VENOM and this Sony universe will be there superhero equivalent of Transformers makes money even throw the movies are terrible.

Thorias can you answer me a question why is it only disney dceu can take liberties with characters in there universe. Spiderman wasn't close to Iron man in comics he wasn't the next tony stark and his aunt may wasnt a gilf. Mary Jane wasnt well whatever she is now. Flash Thompson wasnt east Indian and a geek he was a tough jerk. And at least venom looks similar. To who he was.
In most ways it was a pretty standard film, better than a lot Marvel movies imo. 7.8/10 "Marvel" stars (Marvel get their own rating)

My cousins love this movie. Mainly because they’re 10 and 3 and have never seen the comics in their lives. They don’t laugh at the jokes or react to the movie in general. They just like it.
You allow your cousins to see this movie? Idk about you, I think my 10 or 3 year old self would be traumatized seeing live action Venom.
this review should have more views than those pretentious reviewers. The people are the same. They like it because it's a comic book movie that they really want to see for some time now... So they played on nostalgia, and when people saw it in theaters, they just accepted it because S3 Venom sucked, the bar is very low.
But let's face it, it's garbage.
You said that Eddie doesn't react to Venom eating people, but he's literally traumatised and terrified because of it at the start. Like at the end he jokes about it with Venom, but at first it's a huge fucking deal for him. Honestly, this isn't as much of a review as it is an overdramatic rant. Is the movie perfect? No. But is it fun and entertaining? Very much so. Also, it's funny that this movie's villain is branded as having bullshit motivation when he does immoral things and justifies it by the fact that he believes he is doing it for the greater good of humanity (overpopulation and destroying of Earth), but Thanos is exactly like that but is branded as the best villain in Marvel history. Like they have literally the same motivation and do a shitty thing to achieve it, but one is bad and the other is great? Okay then.

Didn't know anything about Venom before i saw it online. But it seems i'm s sucker for these "bad" comic book movies.
I liked Green Lantern, i liked Ghost Rider and i kinda liked Venom.
This is not a "go to the theater"-endorsement but these movies are not so bad that you couldn't enjoy them at home on a cozy sunday afternoon.
