The "A man dies when he is forgotten" quote is relevant yet again. The wrong way to die is to be forgotten which is why Kaido is upset about Rock's death.
Your version of why Kaido might have wanted to eat the Fish-Fish Fruit is amazing. I can picture Kaido eating the fruit and then struggling to transform and then eventually transforming to some pathetic fish creature. Then after trying to save Xebec he refuses and drowns while Kaido is crying and begging him to stay alive.
On an unrelated note, I was rewatching Punk Hazard recently and noticed that Law told Smoker that there were things you couldn't see unless you change your standing. That's the exact same thing Aoikiji told Smoker later on during that arc. That made me think of your Law is part of Sword theory. I think when it comes to Aoikiji it's pretty much a consensus now that he is also part of Sword.

Rocks died to save his ally and that ally was young Kaido. Probably same as the momo scene when Oden was fighting Kaido. That's why he couldn't kill Momo back then. He feels responsible and disgusted that Rocks gave up instead of fighting to the end. In the end, young Kaido wanted to commit suicide, but Big Mom save him and maybe forced the DF down his throat to prevent him from hurting himself. That's the life long favor she meant. BM gave him a chance to fight back and bring chaos.

Things are, is his DF really responsible for his impossible quest of dying? When Marines captured him and sent him to death, I'm sure 100% that he was chained by sea primestone, so in theory it would cancel his DF ability, maybe this immortal thing comes from his genetic.

Whenever Sengoku talks about how the Rocks Pirates were like a "terrorist group". I can't help but think about 2 factions in the current story and how they're perceived by the WG:
    1. The Strawhats
    2. The Revolutionaries

Great video! One thing I've been thinking of as another piece of "evidence" / foreshadowing that Rocks is more than just "big bad" is that... He's not actually very big. Oda likes to make his villains huge, especially now in the New World. Of course there are exceptions and it's not as clear cut as "bigger size = bigger villain", but I still find it striking how when you look at the panel of the Rocks pirates, Rocks himself is much smaller than the future Emperors. Just a potential hint Oda might have already given us that he's not supposed to be a purely villainous character when we see him.

    • @RandyTroy
      @RandyTroy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I've definitely noticed how Rocks is "Luffy-sized" around these powerhouses

    • @NotSteven01
      @NotSteven01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well (I’ve noticed) normally Oda exaggerates the size of a character for a reason. To indicate their superiority to luffy, either to show how out of his depth his in marineford (showing how little, figuratively and literally, he is next to the admirals or whitebeard). Or to portray him as the underdog in a fight (Doffy, Kat, BM, Kaido are all examples). Based on this, this might indicate that rocks is more similar to luffy, on the same page as luffy, further supported by Roger’s normal size.

My personal head cannon is that Rocks was the Dragon of his era, but just a little more extremist, which is why Sengoku didn't like him. Also what Rocks wanted to do, would have caused massive collateral damage.

Absolutely can’t wait for Kaido’s flashback! This theory is an interesting alternative look at Rocks character and how his actions affected those around him. I completely agree with this tangent! Personally, maybe Xebec saw himself as joyboy or at least a candidate for one (when he dabbled into the world taboos)…perhaps he wanted to do something about it rather than realize he is too early like Roger’s crew. Things didn’t work out so well and he died before his plans went to fruition.
Rayleigh told the Straw Hats that they will reach a different perspective from analyzing the true history than his crew did…and that could be due to how Rocks saw it and drove him mad/man of action.

  • @ohmypoo123
    @ohmypoo123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I could see Rocks sacrificing himself in order to do something really selfless and good, maybe to save innocent marines or something, and Kaido not really understanding, would feel betrayed and confused, then later feel hatred and anger and annoyed and obsessed with it.

  • @TomiJedno

    Mini theory:
What Luffy ate was not the Gomu Gomu no mi, it was only called that becasue the WG wanted to hide
its true name and its power. The DF is a mythical type zoan Human Human fruit model Hanuman (Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Hanuman).
    from wikipedia:
Hanuman is a Hindu god and divine vanara (ape man) companion of the god Rama.
Hanuman is also the son of the wind god (Vayu)
He is viewed as the ideal combination of "strength, heroic initiative and assertive excellence" and
"loving, emotional devotion to his personal god Rama"
He is sometimes portrayed as the patron god of martial arts such as wrestling and acrobatics,
as well as activities such as meditation(we never saw Luffy think) and diligent scholarship.
He symbolizes the human excellences of inner self-control, faith, and service to a cause,
hidden behind the first impressions of a being who looks like an Ape-Man Vanara.
Some scholars have identified Hanuman as one potential inspiration for Sun Wukong,
the Monkey King character in the Chinese epic adventure Journey to the West.
One interpretation of "Hanuman" is "one having a disfigured jaw" - rubber jaw?
This version is supported by a Puranic legend wherein infant Hanuman mistakes the Sun for a fruit
(smiliar to luffy mistaking, the DF for a sanck)
heroically attempts to reach it, and is wounded in the jaw for his attempt.
According to Valmiki's Ramayana, one morning in his childhood, Hanuman was hungry and saw the rising red-colored sun.
Mistaking it for a ripe fruit, he leapt up to eat it. (could refer to the Dawn, or why Luffys theme color is red,
even some of his attacks like Red hawk...)
The Hanuman could be Luffys awakend from, Boundman, Snakeman... Hanuman?
It could be that after one awakens the powers of his DF he relizes the name of his DF.
    Further evidance:
Luffys powers are different form other paramecia types...
Luffys transformation changes his hair and the smoke is also something that shouldnt be there if it was a normal DF,
the way he looks after tranforming into gear 4 looks very mythical...
It boosts his physical abilities JUST LIKE ZOAN fruits...
He had to get used to it, first it changes his skin and bones etc...
then he learned how to pump his blood so it flows faster
then he learned to change the size of his bones... then muslces...
After learning all of that he can reach the final form - The Hanuman.
which would also be the true name of his DF model.
We saw Sengokus DF alowing him to tranform into a Budha, i am sure he has awakened his DF,
cuz its based on the awakend one the Budha afterall...
A number of Marines claimed that they have never seen him use this power before the war.
Before that he might have only used shockwaves or just turn his body into "gold"
that could be the reason why no one saw his final form before.
he had to slowly gain all the control and benefits of his DF, similiar to Luffy.
WhosWho mentioned that the gomu gomu no mi was stolen, he was a CP9 agent back then,
so that means it was VERY IMPORTANT for the WG, this fruit.
The WG is known for misleading the world in One Piece. We saw it plenty of times.
Now the strongest evidance i have is the Momotaro folklore, the Peach boy was accompanied by a dog, monkey and a pheasant,
They were going to defeat an Oni. Its clear that Momonosuke (and Tama) = Momotaro , Yamato = dog, Luffy = monkey and Marco = pheasnt and of course Kaido = Oni.
Now Momonosuke, Yamato, Marco have a Mythical type ZOAN, Kaido has one too... THE ONLY ONE who we belive doesnt have a mythical zoan is Luffy.
Kaido laughed and mocked the Gomu Gomu no mi. He thinks its just a trash DF...
I do think Momo, Yamato, Marco and Luffy will team up and fight Kaido, its all connected.
Marco knew Oden and Ace and he remebers Momonosuke for sure. Ace most likely told Marco about Yamato.
Luffy know Marco and Ace was his brother, he met both Momonosuke and Yamato and is friends will all of them.
Yamato knew Ace and she heared about Luffy and now she met him, she also knows Momonosuke now and maybe heared of Marco since he is quite famous.
Momonuske might not remember Marco but he knows he was born on WB ship, he know Luffy and Yamato.
They all have a connection and all have a mythical DF and will fight Kaido
(there was a chapter called Ancient Zoans, so will we see a chapter called Mythical Zoans, featuring Orochi aswell.
Well but wait... Luffy doesnt have a mythical zoan type... ARE YOU SURE?

He had shiki to lift up the Noah

@@huntercheadle2679 well Shanks and Corazon were born on the same year which is a year before God Valley, Corazon left Mariejois when he was 6 and he grew up hearing" a badly behaving child will be gobbled up by D" and " D will cause another storm" so that must be because of Rocks. God Valley must have been a like vacation home for celestial dragons because they also had their slaves there.

Great Theory Randy!! This gets me thinking about Rodger now. I could be wrong, but in between him meeting Rayleigh and us seeing him in Odens flashback, we don’t know a lot about him. We know that he fought with Garp against Rocks at God Valley, but not much else. What if for some reason Rodger was a Marine and converted to a Pirate after God Valley? All Rodger says is that he want to turn the world around when he meets Rayleigh. Not anything about being a Pirate. Would be an interesting twist if at one time Rodger was a Marine like Garp.

I think as per timeline , Roger discovered Loadstar island before God valley incident , Rocks finding out laughtale 1st makes sense , and probably big mom got one of the road poneglypgh from Rocks himself ,
Rocks could be a good guy , but he was killing CD , and as per how I am seeing shanks and his actions , i think shanks wanted to find out a middle result where CD's won't be killed and there rule (by gorosei and imu) get ended
Which perhaps , only 'Joyboy' can find out

Yeah before there was pirate king there was king of the world and that was rocks sengoku said it was his era, he probably took the same journey roger took and found out he was to early which drove him mad and probably died the same age roger did and left behind his infant son shanks the same way roger left behind ace, I wouldn’t be surprised rocks named his son after his sword same way roger did. Roger and rocks probably had the same checkered fate.

Rocks beeing a good guy is almost exact thing I was thinking for a few reasons.
First one is Whitedlbeard. I can't just imagine a guy like him serving under evil captain.
Second one is Kaido. We see him Happy in chapter 1035.
He was full of hope and had this optimism is his eyes. Even now Kaido shows a flashes of good heart for example he could kill Momo straight away, he still treats soo good his first mates as you can see what he said to Jack after his defeat. He cares.
What broke he may be something he's saying that you can't trust a pirate.
Maybe with words which Kaido said to King that he is the only one who could change the world, he considered himself as a Joyboy. You couldn't be a Joyboy either means something different for Kaido maybe he thought that raw strenght will give him the power to change anything. Then he was betrayed. We Know there was someone who kicked his ass several times. That broke him. Someone litteraly kicked this idea out of his head. He defeated Luffy and got flashback what happend to him earlier.
And now he's a grumpy alcoholic waiting for real deal, a real Joyboy to confront him, see what he missed in his preparations to do the right thing and be the savior of the world. He's doing bad things to get Joyboys attention.
Third one is Big Mom refering to Kaido as a younger brother.
Rocks were like family and Whitebeard felt good there and build exact same thing with his own crew.
Further more I thing that history like to repeat itself and we all know that history is written by the winners.
Rock beeing good, has one more paralell to me. Parallel to Luffy because Luffy always says that he's a pirate not hero. He's doing good thing and he's happy to be called a pirate, considered bad because pirates are bad. This is one side because definetly Government made Rocks bad to hide the truth.
There is also another parallel to strawhats saying that Rocks destroyed towns and Islands, we could see that a lot of thing was destroyed during heavy fighting but not just beeing destroyed like Buggy trying wipe out everything with Buggy Balls.
And this : Garp and Roger went to God Valley to defeat Rock but how they could defeat them? How? There were only two of them against strongest Crew at least 4 beasts in there and we saw Roger Vs Blackbeard fight it took 3 days and end with a draw!
    How could they win?
Something different happend there what changed all of them. Rocks may be still alive hidden somewhere or his child is one of Garps adopted children. Or maybe it's Shanks, adopted by Roger.
I'm not sure in that matter.

Hey randy I was watching a review from a new reader catching up to the marine ford war and fresh eyes really do add perspective, and something they said gave me a fresh idea what do you think about people with the "will d" people able to "will" people into submission but not like a slave more like tama, this would make them also the natural enemy of a "God" or in this case a ruler of any kind, this coupled with conquerors haki and the voice of all things to reach anyone as luffy displayed would be a really powerful combo if this was the case, this could also tie into how Rox got people like kaido, big mom and white beard to follow him, this idea isn't completely flesh out but some food for thought.

xebec fighting for greater good (but not a good guy) is a theory i like, because if he was bad / truly selfish then why would Roger and Garp not ever want to talk about their team up against a scumbag. Also, Big Mom/Kaido/Whitebeard, all part of Xebec's crew.. they aren't exactly scumy people (yes they oppress but in different ways - Big Mom - as a business transaction, Kaido - by breaking will's and Whitebeard by being compassion and generous), they all have their individual ways but they truly did choose to follow Xebec whom must have had an ideology that they all sync'd with ?... What I can't figure out is why is Shanks getting in their way... What is Shank's role as gatekeeper? What is he buying time for and for who?

Yeah I alway liked that. Basically ace was the chosen one but failed so luffy inherited his will and with hard work will achive what ace failed. There is also this scene in marineford (its only in the anime so take it with a grain of salt) where whitebeard talks about how some people inherited rogers will and some will inherit ace's. While that happened we saw a feather that first dropped on ace's that body and than travels through the air to luffys body. Symbolising that he will inherit the will of ace

@@RandyTroy Yeah it is incredible how Oda pulled a destiny child trope with ace (at least within the OP world) and subvert it in universe. It would be kinda ironic if he hates cowards or the weak, when he himself tried to off himself by jumping off the balloon terminal. The rocks suicide thing could still be true but I think it probably influenced Kaido in other ways. But thats just a theory.

Rocks died with the world not knowing and Kaido hates that and respects Whitebeard dying legendary with everyone knowing.

  • @krawsss_6551
    @krawsss_6551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Personally I don't think it's a coincidence that in Punk Hazard (the start of this entire saga) we see Law deliver the line "the weak don't choose how they die" which is then word-for-word repeated by Doflamingo in Dressrosa. Then our introduction to Kaido is showcasing that he is literally incapable of 'choosing how he dies', I think Oda may have already pulled the rug already without us realizing. I think Kaido is self-conscious at his own weakness and that's why you have certain scenes where he kills Orochi's grandma for being the main cause of Oden losing, or he's seemingly obsessed with breaking people's will moreso actually killing them. And I think that's what we may get an expansion on in the inevitable flashback with Rocks, granted the only person who really knows is Oda and he could prove everyone wrong on this so we just have to wait and see. Fun video though!
