This was one of our favorite songs. I never thought I'd have to live this song. My darling wife of 38 years died one month ago, on September 5, 2021. About 10 years ago we saw Willie in concert. He made eye contact with her and tossed a bandana directly to her. I have that bandana sitting on top of her cremains tonight as I listen to this song again. Bless you, Leah and Willie Nelson 💔👩❤️👨💔
And remember, Nashville didn't want him or understand him. The greatest country legend and I dare you to find someone that can reduce you to tears with such a simple arrangement better than Willie.
Yup. Nashville didn't want him because he didn't feel the need to put up with bullshit. He must have always known deep inside what he would and would not accept. ❤❤❤
I was a Willie Nelson fan from a very young age. Now I'm 71 and it occured to me this morning listening to this song that as I grow older, my heroes have also grown older and as my tastes in music have matured and changed so have theirs, and we still match!. I'm so grateful that I was able to grow old with these great country music talents,. What a joy to introduce Willy and Waylon and Johnny And George, and so many other greats to my grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank God for TH-cam where we can listen to oldies and the new songs and appreciate the talents of these fine people.
I totally agree 94 days ago on July 30. I lost my partner. My man went to heaven. He introduced me again in my life to Waylon Jennings and beautiful real country music. I'm forever grateful I'm not sure if it gets easier. Sure as fuck hope so I'm pretty tore up right now.

First time today hearing this great song.. but I realized that there is no one to dedicate this song to, that I miss.. 65 w/ 3 ex's, no kids.. dunno if I am happy or sad at that thought..
My heart and prayers go out to you. Love and light from Australia. I hope that it might comfort you to know that there is no death, just a change into a different dimension of being closer to God.
I don't know what we're doing here, but we know what to do here. Love it while we have it. Because God, it's so short and unpredictable, and brutal. Sometimes we feel like a force against the universe, it's so hard to recognize our part in it sometimes, and find that patience. With so much love, make it a good moment.
Such a tearjerker watching these two perform this on July 4th, 2024. Willie was still ill - blowing his nose and quite breathless. Lukas and the audience helped him through most songs as he couldn't do it on his own. So glad I got to see him perform!!
If noone has told you today and your reading this, i want to tell you that I love you. Nomatter color, creed or belief were all the same and youre very special. Stick by your spirit and stay true & just know everything will be okay. REMEMBER
Sorry...that I don't want to do... Makes it rhymes and sound perfectly b slightly more childish and that part in your life where you realize that it's awesome but hazardous to ones life. "I'm only doing stuff Iiiii want to do." And i agree. He's so wise.
I cry whenever I listen to this song. I mourn every single person who held my heart and who went before me. I acknowledge each of them when I hear this song.
My dad just told me this song reminds him of his mother (my nana) who passed on 5/13/11. Now it will remind me of him thinking of her every time I hear it. Thanks for another gem Willie! 🥹♥️😎✌🏼
Yes it is especially when you find yourself with their song stuck in your head on repeat and out of nowhere too. You know it's bad if it's a tune that won't go away. On Riiplay.
This Song Really true about Life and Love. Willy's Songs always have a whole lot of lessons in his songs. Growing older Truely teaches you Life goes on no matter how hard you think it is Life does get easier to live with heart aches and pain. You Learn everyday Is A Day To Face and put behind You and Let Time Heal the pain. Everything will Pass and you learn to remember The God Times and How to make the bad times heal as life goes on. God is Great to Pick You Up and make each Day easier. Willie and his music and Songs are The Best. Everything Heals itself in Time Keeping God in Your Heart.
@Willie Nelson If this is really you, I would like to tell you what an influence you have had in my marriage. My husband passed away in 2010. His 66th birthday was August 20th 2010 and he passed September 20th 2010. I was 61 years old just the month before. As in all marriages, we had some really hard times. We split up once for a couple of months and when we got back together, he said your song "You were always on my mind" was his song to me. I listen to your song so often you can't even imagine. It gives me peace in my heart because I still love and miss him so very very much. I'm 71 now and will be 72 this year. We lost everything, including his life insurance money before he died. Actually, our business and personal bankruptcy filed the same day he died so I am still working full time and I guess I will until I join him in Heaven. I have told you this part just to let you know how very much your music means to me. Thank you and God bless you for all the comfort you give to all of us. I don't know words to tell you how much your songs have given me the strength to just keep moving forward. You are a precious person Mr. Willie Nelson and THANK YOU.
@willie Nelson I hope this is you I have been a fan of yours since 1970, I am now 73, so a few years behind you, I have been in self lockdown in the UK for over a year, but your music keeps me going, I hope you and all your family and friends also remain safe, you are a legend to people all over the world, we will never ever forget you, Bob in the UK
God is making Willie work until the end. Thank you Willie, and thank You God. I am not religious, I don't go to church, but I do thank God for His gifts. And Willie Nelson is a gift from God.

And may the memory of the night Willie sang this song. Made eye contact and gave Leah the bandanna, this was already part of a memory that would come to mean the world to you. For there really are no coincidences. ❤❤❤❤
A hundred years from today, these video clips will be still watched as the classics they are already, and people will find themselves humming along, adrift in the gentle flow of Willie's voice and guitar.
Im just blown away! To think Willie Nelson still sounds this awesome after all these years it's mind blowing. His phrasing is perfect such a beautiful song !
I am 18 years old and I'm glad I'm not like people at my school who doesn't even know who you are. I'm thankful for my dad because he introduced me to a wonderful artist. thank you for giving me the experience that most people don't get now a days with amazing music like this.
I'm 23 (1995) and I really love this song! He shows me how the true life is. The young people nowadays will be very hard to know a wonderful artist like him.
Ellie Davies when I was in middle school my friends and I used to joke about who are dad's were. My friends said my dad had to be Willie Nelson, because I always listened to his music and had red hair. My hair was more copper, but to them it was the same. About 6 years ago I went to my first concert of his. 3 years ago I went to one that his son Lucas played at. it was amazing.
haha that's amazing! Imagine Willie being your dad though.. literally the coolest dad ever lol. I can't wait to see him, it really is a dream come true for me!
This is probably one of Willie's best. Probably one of the songs that touches my inner soul. The cry of the steel guitar is the prettiest hymn in this whole song. This song makes me think of my Papa, Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. Good Work Willie
People need to understand that Willy is so far advanced a song writer and singer that you may not always take to it the 1st time out, he is like fine wine , beer or Caviar .You must develop a taste for his music, but once that happens you are hooked, he is super super special and wreaking with talent as was his best friend Merle Haggard. He ages like fine wine as well, better and better after every song, I challenge anyone to listen to It gets Easier or A Moment of Forever , listen 2 or 3 times close and you will be blown away by this man, I could go on about him and Merle for days, miss you Merle. Willy keep smokin the good stuff it seems to do you well. Also He wont Ever Be Gone with Ben Haggard on the lead WOW WOW
Absolutely right Jim, his voice gets better with age. It's like listening to an old friend, I have loved him for so long. Yes, A Moment of Forever, wow x
These words mean so much when you lose someone that meant so much to you....I will never get over losing my Mom, I'm a different person now....we all just get through it...but we are never left the same. Many blessing Willie, you are such a beautiful man.
I can relate to this soulful tune, although I'm not quite Willie's age, but getting close. Every word is true. I don't feel like it today, just go away. Willie is still giving of himself in every new song he writes. I also love Ride me Back Home, and a Horse called Music. Thank you my man for sharing your soul. You surely have touched mine.
That would be summed up in his new hit, We don't Get over it, we Get Through It. And I guess we do get through it, as we're still here to live another day.
It's a crying shame the record executives have high-jacked this genre of music and relegated it to the annals of history. Thank you Willie for keeping it alive.
I think that Willie is feeling all of the losses that he has suffered during the last few years. We all miss the great entertainers from the past, but they were his friends. The sadness is beginning to show through
It gets easier, as we get older It gets easier to say "not today" And it gets easier, as we get older To say "go away and not today" I don't have to do One damn thing That I don't want to do Except for missing you And that won't go away It gets easier to say "some other time" It gets easier to tell the world to wait And it gets easier to watch the world fly by And tell it, "I will catch up, but not today" I don't have to do One damn thing That I don't want to do Except for missing you And that won't go away Except for missing you And that won't go away Songwriters: Buddy Cannon / Willie Nelson
@Mary Moroschan sorry to interrupt but you got one verse wrong, the second verse after “ I don’t have to do “ should be “ one little thing “ he doesn’t repeat the “ One damn thing “ that he put in the first verse, however I am sure you will agree it don’t mean a damn and Willie won’t be bothered how we sing it, I have just used his link and bought the album, it as good an album as any he as produced, in fact I think he gets better as he gets older, all my love to all his fans and of course to Willie and his family. Bob in the UK
I never dreamed, when I first heard Willie singing at some Austin car dealership, at age 21, that Willie would one day be 83 and I'd be 65 and the music just keeps on getting better and better. Willie's music is the one constant in my life.
I lost my husband four months ago, I listen to this song over and over. Thanks Willie for putting all the emotion that I feel into this wonderful song.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I KNOW how hollow those words are. It just doesn't get easier, but there are people out here who understand your pain. I lost the love of my life in 2001, and it hasn't gotten any easier, but I do know what you're going through, and I'm happy to help in any way I can
Let me just say. For those of us who still have people who we don't have to mourn to really think about this! We need to say, not today. Let everyone know that we don't have to do one damn thing except for loving the ones we love.
Just can't wait for his concert people say that all of us younger kids don't like old music especially country but I'm living prof that some of us do can't wait for you in Kansas City
Willie you have been in our life for so so long. I can say that this song really hit home for me! I had a knowing that we would meet you back stage. I Am from Puyallup, and Jay and his dad were part of your life in Maui... my husband has passed away 3 years ago.He never let. me go to the foundation to make a wish, but I know it would have been to meet you! you keep on keeping on.... LOVE your music. .
what a beautiful song.... i listen to it over and over at times... the steel guitar is wonderful the lyrics are just as wonderful..and his delivery is unsurpassed even at his age..Willie hang in there !!
I’m 61, live in Scotland, and only really started to listen to country music when we got CMTV on SKY for a few years. I was always aware of Willie and Merle. Now with Deezer and You tube I get so much more
...keine Ahnung, wie man einen Song noch besser darbieten könnte, als es Willie Nelson hier tut.....Willie Nelson ist ein außergewöhnlicher Musiker. Meine Hochachtung...mehr kann ich nicht sagen....
This song reminds me of my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost battling cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, life could be so unfair most times, but sometimes I wonder why bad things always happen to good people.
Oh that slipping sliding steel guitar. And a song about the slipping and sliding of time. But some things remain. I still love the man I loved when I was 23. It didn't work then and time and distance are between us now. But its a north star in my life. I look - and its still there...
Loving this way of telling whats truly on his mind, there is not a damn song Willie can’t write, play, sing now. Keep staying Forever Young you and Annie both. God Bless you both, Love Cindy Chapman, Rome Ga..❤
Me too as it fits. Even after 5 years since he passed. "Except for missing you...and that wont go away." I truly wish i had no idea of what he is singing about.
This was one of our favorite songs. I never thought I'd have to live this song. My darling wife of 38 years died one month ago, on September 5, 2021. About 10 years ago we saw Willie in concert. Same for me I love this song. I lost my husband of 42 years to cancer in Jan. 2020.💔
All the best to you folks missing your loved ones.
I feel your pain, my fiancé passed away on February 4, 2021. And his birthday is today he would’ve been 37. It hurt so bad 🙏🏼
Love never dies
Keep loving

This song expresses how I go through my days as a senior citizen. The older I get, the less I care what others think.
Ditto!
SouthernPatriot You are so right. Trivial things that used to bother you don’t matter anymore. Just watch the world go by. 😊
And the beautiful love theme?
I wish people would get back to normal or at least have morals God Bless to everyone

A song that finally explains how I feel. Having a terminal ill child and trying to still find patience with the world 😢

Took me 45 years to appreciate Willy on a spiritual level but when it happened, it was immediate.
How can a guy make me cry and laugh so hard. I never even met him. That’s a true artist.

But one fine day when your Leah holds out her hands to you...

Hi Mary
It gets easier, as we get older
It gets easier to say "not today"
And it gets easier, as we get older
To say "go away and not today"
I don't have to do
One damn thing
That I don't want to do
Except for missing you
And that won't go away
It gets easier to say "some other time"
It gets easier to tell the world to wait
And it gets easier to watch the world fly by
And tell it, "I will catch up, but not today"
I don't have to do
One damn thing
That I don't want to do
Except for missing you
And that won't go away
Except for missing you
And that won't go away
Songwriters: Buddy Cannon / Willie Nelson

@Mary Moroschan sorry to interrupt but you got one verse wrong, the second verse after “ I don’t have to do “ should be “ one little thing “ he doesn’t repeat the “ One damn thing “ that he put in the first verse, however I am sure you will agree it don’t mean a damn and Willie won’t be bothered how we sing it, I have just used his link and bought the album, it as good an album as any he as produced, in fact I think he gets better as he gets older, all my love to all his fans and of course to Willie and his family. jonjtee, Went to see Willie Nelson last week, he didn't sing this song, very disappointed. So I get my guitar and sing it several times a day.
jonjtee couldn't have said it any better myself!
Hello @jonjtee ,
How're you doing here?
Thanks for being a fan
It's nice meeting you here
I never dreamed, when I first heard Willie singing at some Austin car dealership, at age 21, that Willie would one day be 83 and I'd be 65 and the music just keeps on getting better and better. Willie's music is the one constant in my life.
Hi Ann
I lost my husband four months ago, I listen to this song over and over. Thanks Willie for putting all the emotion that I feel into this wonderful song.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I KNOW how hollow those words are. It just doesn't get easier, but there are people out here who understand your pain. I lost the love of my life in 2001, and it hasn't gotten any easier, but I do know what you're going through, and I'm happy to help in any way I can
How on earth do you cope with your loss , I lost my dad yesterday and I’m broken 😞
God bless you.
@@millie151062 pray pray pray God is with you more now because you need his strength y hugs
I was born in 1968. I have been listening to you for 54 years. I would love to meet you.
Sometimes I just freeze, I'm aware that I'm day dreaming but it feels amazing not worrying about things.
Just zone out and relax.
Willy is spiritual to me
Yes!

Time has aged them well
You have always love someone before you get old. When you love some one it never dies.
I know what you mean, Willie. God bless you.
Willie is a national treasure. Every day we have Willie in our life is a gift. Thank you for years of great music sir.
Let me just say. For those of us who still have people who we don't have to mourn to really think about this! We need to say, not today. Let everyone know that we don't have to do one damn thing except for loving the ones we love.
Just great and indescribably beautiful, 84 years, I pull my hat!
Not to be the person going around correcting people but he is 82
No, he´s 84. Why don´t you just look it up before making a fool of yourself?
soon as he said "cept for missen you, and, that wont go away."... i burst out and tears and i cryed like a baby....
Just can't wait for his concert people say that all of us younger kids don't like old music especially country but I'm living prof that some of us do can't wait for you in Kansas City

Hi Dianne
It has a truth that we all feel or will feel
This song descrbes my feelings exactly after loosing my wife of 58 years in Nov 2021. Thanks Willie for writing "my song".
...keine Ahnung, wie man einen Song noch besser darbieten könnte, als es Willie Nelson hier tut.....Willie Nelson ist ein außergewöhnlicher Musiker. Meine Hochachtung...mehr kann ich nicht sagen....
That Willie Nelson touch. Great song to add to an awesome collection.
A TRUE LEGEND Rocket Roy
I lost my husband in 2020 to cancer and he never stopped. I listened to this song and thinking of him.❤
This song reminds me of my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost battling cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, life could be so unfair most times, but sometimes I wonder why bad things always happen to good people.
I can listen every day to Willie singing. One day it will get easier, but for now “I Don’t Give A Damn” Thanks Willie. Love you & God Bless You!❤️🙏
Hello how are you
Oh that slipping sliding steel guitar. And a song about the slipping and sliding of time. But some things remain. I still love the man I loved when I was 23. It didn't work then and time and distance are between us now. But its a north star in my life. I look - and its still there...
Hi
The words in this song could have come from my heart, I could have spoken them!
Hi Margie
My husband Bill of 30 years just passed away 4 months ago. My heart hurts so much. Your songs hit my heart thank you willie Nelson 😢
I’m at that stage in my life now. Silly things don’t matter any more. So true Love this song Willie is the best.
Loving this way of telling whats truly on his mind, there is not a damn song Willie can’t write, play, sing now. Keep staying Forever Young you and Annie both. God Bless you both, Love Cindy Chapman, Rome Ga..❤
It takes a legend master to weave 2 chords and a minor and produce yet another master piece. Sir, whatever God put in you is a blessing to many..!
Exactly!!!!
This song touches me....I tear up...every time I hear it.
Me too as it fits. Even after 5 years since he passed. "Except for missing you...and that wont go away." I truly wish i had no idea of what he is singing about.
