Just got Dave's Skew and used it to rough a round cylinder out of green ash in preparation to turn some hollow forms with the D-Way hollowing tool. As I heard Dave's voice saying "up and in" in my head I made the best skew shavings ever. This is my first real good experience with a skew and I am hooked.
Dude, those shavings coming off the skew are legendary. Even some of my favorite turners I have watched for years are not making those types of shavings. That is truly as sharp as can be. Amazing! Great GREAT work! I can't wait to buy one of Dave's tools and bars. I'm getting my CBN wheels next week, and once I master the sharpening of my basic stuff, I am going to move onto some high quality gouges and a skew from D-way. That's what made in America is all about.
Oh the joy of turning wet wood, those shavings are awesome. Dave’s tools are legendary. I have a full set of his beading tools. It was money well spent. I don’t regret it for a second. Keep Spinning that wood Dave, all the very best, yours Rickŷ.
WOW, very impressive video, new turner, retired military most comfortable with the skew, struggle with gouges. interested in your skews, what size would you recommend for a new guy ?, or refer me please. thanks.
