Dave demonstrates his technique for sharpening D-WayTools bowl gouges. Wolverine setup: Stick out: 1 7/8" Pivot point to wheel - 7 1/4" Wing somewhere between the first & second notches
This is very good. You showed me a solution to some of my sharpening problems. I use a different sharpening system but the principles are the same. Removing the gouge from the handle for sharpening is something I have not been doing but will in the future.
I realize this is an old video but it's a very good one. Yet I've got some questions. Hope you don't mind answering them. First off was the stick out while using the vari-grind on the bowl gouge 1 7/8 "? What angle do you put on your bowl gouge. What angle on the bottom gouge? And what two grits do you use on your grinder wheels?
I'm about to grind my D-way gouges for the first time, so this video was punctual and very informative. I did buy the knob with my one handle and 3 gouges . However I don't use the knob because I have a small 10" lathe and the knob just gets in the way. Maybe I will try it again though once I am more experienced.
So what process do you do for making the flute of the bowl gouge because I’ve been wanting to try to make my own bowl gouge and I want to make a parabolic shape in it but I don’t know how

One of the best video's on sharpening setup that I've seen, thank you

Will a 6 inch cbn wheel work or will the grind be too hollow?
What is the length of the gouge sticking out of the rocking part?
Those setup figures are for your 8" wheel. Would you change those for the 6" wheel?
great video, great help on sharpening, thanks!
