  • Reem Abbas is a Sudanese writer and researcher who recently had to flee her home in Khartoum after civil war broke out in April. She recently spoke with VICE live on Twitch about the reality on the ground, where conditions are so dangerous that most journalists have been barred from entering.
So far, the war in Sudan has uprooted over 2.5 million people according to U.N. estimates, mainly from the capital and Darfur region, which was already suffering from two decades of conflict and mass displacement.

Iam not a Sudanese but my wife is . Some 15 years ago she and our 3 children moved to Khartoum. I have my house there . They also escaped the hell. Time ago one could see dogpoo on the pavement in Amsterdam. A little campaign of the municipality of Amsterdam and one will not find such a thing anymore. Dog owners just take their responsibility. What is the role of islam ? These Sudanese are so busy with the Islamic faith for centuries. But this cannot prevent them for such atrocities ( against their own country ( men )

So let me get this straight , she claims she left Khartoum with nothing and “lost everything” , depicting a life of an ordinary middle/ lower class family that actually endured this, when in actually she is clearly western educated women with privilege & generational wealth , so much so that she proceeds to tell us about her vast network of assets in Sudan , including her family building a hospital , she clearly has foreign passports , bank accounts , ect. It’s utter disrespect to start this video in a way that portrays her as a victim , when millions of Sudanese are now homeless , not having a foreign passport and bank account with dollars/ euros / pounds. She is now in the west sitting pretty while she started the video depicting a life of a suffering Sudanese women, typical vice news🤣

Janjaweeds and the like have always existed. Historians describe constant raids from tribes ( or bands of men rather, always men) against productive people. Theres no meed to always mention the poor brittish as the only reason for evil in the world. What the global elite should do immediatly is stop selling weapons and do exactly what Reema did and focus on research, history, culture, education.. the beauty of life. I sympathize with the interviewed and wish her the best but why does an arab looking western educated woman represent and speak for the sudanese people? That felt a little bit weird. My egyptian ear tells me that sooda means black. Sudan may therefore mean land of the black given by some old occupier. More more I see this phenomenon where both right and left media never actually talks to the people on the ground. They talk to educated people who share their views.

I mean absolutely no disrespect but this is every day in St. Louis? Poverty, gang's, lack of Shelter, healthcare etc. I'm cleaning up my Parent's home, no one was there because I was very ill, Disabled and the entire time there were illegal homeless in our house because of this? I'm imperverished myself, I've had to live in Shelters and transitional living because of my illnesses and all day and all night I hear gunshots, I can differentiate the gunshots, I know what an M16 sounds like, an AK47, small and large calliber handguns etc. I have to run down street's to buy groceries and duck when the gun's go off? Your torn up house looks exactly as mine does right now? I don't take books when I have to leave, thankfully I don't have children, I have a bag packed with mace, a pistol, soap and canned goods in case I cannot find somewhere safe + a tent? I was just harassed about my ethnicity, my sexuality, beaten and because I fought so hard I was able to avoid being raped. The responding officer's screamed at me!! At least the man was charged with assault in the 2nd degree? There is Nowhere Safe in St. Louis and No SHELTER? I'M INCREDIBLY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSSES, THE ENTIRE WORLD IS GOING INSANE!!
