These cars are made to be cheap to run and start when you need to get to work. Not everyone has the cushioned pillow of a billionaire father to fall back on. People just want to get to work and back for as little as possible in a car that won’t break down.

You can take public transport and save infinitely more on gas. You don’t buy a car to save on gas. That’s why you sell a car and take the bus. When you are ready to pay for gas, then you are ready to buy a car. Just think about it, you are trying to save money on gas but, then you buy something that uses gas? Quite idiotic. If you have such an opposition to buying gas, don’t buy something that runs on gas, and just take public transport. Buying a car but not wanting to spend money on gas is like adopting a child but not wanting spend money on food.

It takes a special kind of reality-disconnect to attack the Prius like it's a bad car. It's just supposed to be a great daily-driver and it's exactly that. Anybody comparing it to a Hellcat or Corvette or whatever, is out of their minds. Being fast and looking good is great while you can afford it but funny thing, most muscle cars have MAJOR problems and need more work than daily-drivers. I love the Dodge Challenger but they are not built to last, no matter how much fun they are. The Prius's cost-performance-reliability ratio is tremendous and THAT is really the bottom line. The 'environmental' thing is really secondary for most drivers, and we're well past the 'Smug' problem as seen on South Park.

I legit have almost all the warning lights on in my Prius for over two years now and it's still going strong. I took it into the dealership but they said they didn't know, basically. So, eh? It just keeps going though! Big red exclamation and all!! Thing is a champ.

The Prius is designed and built in Japan. It was the first Hybrid car and is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. People hate but yet there are so many Prius cars on the road. Not everyone wants a gas guzzler. Most people want a reliable, comfortable car with great gas mileage and that's what the Prius does. I'm proud to own a Toyota.

Phu Uong Honda insight was launched in 1999 and Toyota prius in 1997. But yeah, they werent the first hybrid. The first gen prius looks like a little sedan. There are hardly any on the road now either 😂
I'm a prius driver(not by choice) and I cannot agree with you that the prius is comfortable. Its cramped, and the seats are very stiff.
My wife's prius with 170k miles keeps running has never broken down and yes it has sensitive brakes probably why the pads last forever

Here's a Tesla note for you. They don't recommend charging to 100% on a regular basis because that can damage the battery. They suggest charging to 80%. They also suggest you don't discharge below 20-30% because that can damage the battery. That leaves you with a battery that is really 50-60% of the advertised capacity. That isn't so good. Unfortunately that really isn't even an insult, it's just a fact of life with the Tesla. Toyota makes Camry and Avalon hybrids which get very good mileage and solve a major complaint among non-Prius owners. They look like every other car on the road.
The Prius is like that Starbucks drink you order that has 20 or 30 words to it.
You need to understand the purpose for each car.
Prius is the best car for what it is made for.
It is made to move a small family with safety,to be comfort,reliable,and with the biggest fuel efficiency you can get.
For over 20 years,it does it well.
So don't put all cars on the same pot.
Ferrari is made,for what it is made for,and Prius made for efficiency.
The shape,for example,is the best,to reduce the aerodynamic forces. If you take a look on other hybrid cars,like Honda insight for example,you will see that they follow almost the same aerodynamic lines.
On the other side,sport cars,use opposite aerodynamic lines,to create aerodynamic forces,that press the car down. They gain traction,but they lose on fuel consumption.
So... Every car has it's use and purpose,and it is made for differend driver.

Same here I really want a 3rd gen. The car isn't a problem it's the Toyota dealerships. Been to 2 of them and the salesman don't care about selling the car unless you buy it for the ridiculous price tag. One of them said "we don't play games around here". Manager was the same way I was so mad.

The prius has a function and it’s to be efficient and low-cost to maintain. It’s a workhorse. It isn’t your saturday toy, there are other cars built for that role. I do agree the newer styling is a little much but over all the car is fantastic if you’re buying it for what it’s intended to be.

A prius’ engine only lasts about 150k-200k miles. It isnt like a camry or a corolla that last 300k-500k miles easily

@@ghettomechanicllc3070 the engine itself is literally indestructible.. it doesn't produce a lot of power and under 40°C coolant temperature, it runs in a program that is very gently to the engine... plus its made by Toyota. Maybe the battery doesn't last 300k+ but i've never heared of a prius with a dead engine.
I freaking love my Prius AND driving it! To never have to think about the cost of driving anywhere is one of the most freeing things I’ve ever experienced. Had a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek before, and I prefer the way the Prius drives over that.

Cars aren’t supposed to be economical. That’s what public transport is for. If you cannot afford something, don’t try for a cheaper version, just do without until you can afford it again, or change up your driving habits. The cars don’t need to use less gas, we need to do less driving, or pony up the cash.

I just bought a 2021 Prius and I love it. Love it so that I camp in mine on overnight trips. I can let the car run overnight with the heater on. It mostly runs on battery and the engine comes on for maybe 30 seconds when it needs to charge the battery. How can you not love that?

My 2012 Prius does (very well) exactly what I bought it for 6 years ago...i.e., gives me reliable, comfortable, roomy (hatchback) transportation, and regularly, tank after tank, of 45-55 mpg no matter how I drive it. When the one I have finally wears out, I'm planning to buy a new one, maybe a Prime this time.

I wore Heelys for a long time and they were incredibly fun, like a permanent hoverboard beneath each of your feet. I never cared what people thought more than the fun they provided. Prius is sort of like Heelys for adults lol! Just got my Prius this last week despite the stigmas, and my current adult-'Heely joy' is my 62 MPG avg. YEET! As Prius owner I thought this video was comical, and actually informative. The reverse beep is truly god awful. When you are in a close parking lot and the sensors are all going off in conjunction with the reverse beeping, it's like a bad 8-bit meshuggah. However I'm coming from a 2007 Kia spectra that had no air conditioning, so everything seems amazing to me.

The beeping is actually due to it being a standard safety feature in japan, most imports also will have this feature. people just really dislike whats not familiar to them.

Tesla Model S, Mercedes, Lamborghini.... and the bad part is that it's cheaper, has excellent maneuverability and mileage and has more space inside than probably any other car its size? Oh yeah, but it's not pretty! It's a cheese wedge! Everyone thinks 'cheese wedge' upon seeing the Prius, just as when viewing a Cadillac we think 'beans and weenies'. Things I love about the Prius:
The engine only comes on when you need extra power. Of course, in practice, this ends up being any time you're accelerating and any time you're going more than forty miles per hour, but still.
No gears. It's like a diesel-electric locomotive, the engine runs at the precise load and speed that is most efficient. I'll never go back to a car with gears again.
All the accessories are electric, none are engine driven. Electric A/C compressor, electric power steering, electric engine water pump, electric brake vacuum pump. It's great to sit somewhere with the air running, but the engine is not.
No belts, except for the smog pump, but who cares if that stops working.
All of this is true👍 it's a really smooth car. When the hybrid system isn't warm yet, you accelerate almost only with the electric motor and it's sooo smooth

prius is great. back in 2006 i purchased a toyota prius i put 250,000mile still in good condition. it's very fun to drive, very quiet and smooth very cheap to own. trouble free car never been repair beside change break pad one time and change tires few times that's it .highly recommended.

I love mine. It's a 2007 and I've had it for 11 years. It is not slow at all. The battery gives you immediate power pulling away. They sure are popular and depreciate amazingly slow for it to be the "worst car in the world."

As far as the prius is from the Bugatti, is how far the prius is from being a car. Bugatti = car. prius = sacrifice soul, integrity and standards to save a buck. I thought all this until I drove a 2010 from NC to Arkansas and total gas round trip was 64 bucks. I actually want one now.

I love my Prius prime, it’s beautiful to me. I wish it did accelerate more, but that’s okay to me, I’m not always in such a rush when I’m driving

I laugh while filling up my gas guzzler. The best cars use the most gas. The less gas it uses, the worse it is. Buy for passion, not for not wanting to spend money. Spending money on something so you don’t have to spend money is asinine. Just don’t buy it in the first place. You obviously lack the passion required to step up to the responsibility of owning a sacred deity like the mighty automobile. If you hate spending money on gas so much, don’t buy something that runs on gas, stop driving altogether. Leave the roadways open for the drivers of real cars. The purpose of a car is to go fast, not gas mileage. The car was not invented to save gas. It was invented to go fast and in style. That’s its purpose and the only reason to buy a car.

You missed the point, Prius is more costly and less efficient than several other hybrid options yet remains the best selling. This is because the Prius has attained a reputation in the ranks of Hybrids just like the Iphone gained a reputation in the ranks of mobile phones.
I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad car, some people, like the person you know, may not mind the several downsides. But don't think high sales mean a good product.

5 things I love about my prius:
-Insanely reliable (my brakes didn't need changing until 100k miles because of the unique braking system)
-HUGE cargo trunk space, enough to comfortably sleep/camp in
-It is basically a mobile generator on wheels. I went camping with this and everyone was jealous because it was 105 degrees and I was able to sit in my AC car and watch a movie while only using about 1 gallon of gas over the course of 5-6 hours. Yea.
-52 MPG. Enough said. When gas was 3 dollars a gallon I could fill up my whole tank for 25 bucks and have a 500 mile range.
-it is user friendly as fuck

My mom's bought a new Prius in 2011 and the only issues she had year to date with currently 132k miles was changing the brakes at 95k and the tires and still is getting 52 mpg. I think the Prius is the best most reliable hybrid out there hands down
I have 228,000 miles on my 2008 Prius (generation 2) and it has been one of the most reliable and dependable cars I've ever owned. Yes, it does look like a bar of Dove soap, but when I purchased the car, gas was double what it is now and my commute was 70 miles a day to work. The main problem I have with this car is the cheap plastic undercarriage and bumper pieces (held together by clips that are even more cheap). Its low to the ground and doesn't tolerate those parking humps without something falling off and needing to be duct-taped back into place until the clips can be replaced. It's been crazy dependable, but I worry about the day when everything falls apart all at once in one sorry heap. The fact that these cars are used as taxis in quite a few places tell me that I may not have to worry about this, but we will see. There are some expensive components on the car, but the number of earlier Prii (not Priuses LOL) in salvage yards (usually due to collisions and not just because its old) has increased to the point where parts are readily available in salvage yards and on EBay for quite reasonable prices (transmissions, invertors, etc..). I've done just routine maintenance only and the engine water pump at 200,000 (because it was time to do it and don't want it to fail on the road).

1. Agreed, but those better-looking cars are way more expensive.
2. You can disable the reverse beep.
3. Older Priuses don't have the sensitive brake issue. Maybe the brakes will get less responsive over time?
4. The Prius does make a loud beeping noise when you close the door. With that being said, there really should be an auto-shutoff feature.
5. The hybrid system breaking is extremely rare. Idk why so many people talk about it as if every other car is going to break.
