I planted 3 of these trees in spring. I need some advice on when to prune them so they grow quicker and give me pretty blooms. I bought them at 6 feet.
Found a thirty footer in my yard with a bunch of suckers and dead stuff on it. About 8" diameter. What season and how far down can i prune it before worrying about hurting it? There is still some cable stuck in it from previous owners dog run...
I live in the northern part of the state and looking into planting approximately 25 acres of paulownia hardwood. I have contacted World Tree and they screened my property for consideration. I was looking for some input from current farmers for lessons learned. My property is currently being used as pasture for cattle and I was wondering if I caged the trees if I could continue to pasture my cattle in the early months while the trees took root. I am also interested in the current and projected market in our area for the lumber. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
At one time our farm managed cattle, that's been some 25 years ago. I don't think starting out with seedling trees and cattle would be cost efficient. Once the trees are in year 4 or five you could place a few cows in with trees. We had a deer problem in year 2, they acquired a taste for the tree leaves plus the Buck deer like to rub the sapling trees. I bought enough dog wire make a physical barrier around 400 plus trees. 7K in material and labor. Not sure that would work with cows. Cows will go through a fence if they see something they want on the other side. One thought you might consider is to plant the 25 acers in two phases... Plant 12.5 acers in yr 0 and the other in 12.5 acers in yr in year 4 of the first stand. Reduce the number of cows the first 4 yrs. Hope that Helps!
Paulownia is not hardwood. there is lot of info about Paulownia on the internet, also about lessons learned, frost in northern parts, animals eating them.
Why not just use hand pruners instead of a saw? The wood is not hard, since it's hollow, and the cut can be better controlled and precisioned (on these lower limbs).
Thanks, we want to plant a acre or 3 for a starter to learn and after planting every year another patch! The deer protection is interesting because I don’t want to block wild animals to be on my land! Just protecting the tree.
In year 0 I tried keeping the area clean around the plant to keep down the unwanted competition, allowing the plant to establish a root system. Year 2 and going into year 3 I'm mowing less I've established a good stand grass for a good understory.
Not sure about the cubic meter cost... the trees were seedling plants when I received them in individual containers, Flats of 18 each, 1100 trees on a 20 x 20 spacing on 10 Achers. World Tree provided the Plants. You can contact World Tree online for pricing and how the program works. Hope that's helpful.

Excuse me sir, could you please provide some information on what type of paulowania it is?
Can those extra cuttings be rooted or air layered? I’d like to plant some for my honeybees. You sure don’t see them being sold around my area.
Supper, I am planning to plant it in Nepal.

IKR, or even a bow saw for limbs. Painful to watch this LOL

What state are y’all in? Is it illegal to plant the paulownia if it’s designated as an invasive plant?
So what species of Paulowania do you have is it Elonagata or Fortunei??
Paulownia elongata
Can it be left to grow naturally after first cutting? & what if you don’t use fertilizers?🌳
do you clean the undergrowth around de tree root or it's no necessary?

How much does a cubic meter of paulownia tree cost?
