This job has been a big linguistics lesson. Can't wait to see the machine! Use it for your Jackson promo video. Walkway looks mint even without the mulch!
For us that are just starting in this business would you please consider doing a video on how you go about pricing your jobs please? I would highly appreciate that greatly!
Have to figure what works best for you. You need to understand how much your time is worth, the cost of materials, and a strong understanding of how long each step of a job will take to complete. Someone building patios in California that wants to drive a Lamborghini is going to be serving a much different clientele than someone in the Northeast and the profits needed to complete a job will be much higher. You have to figure out where you are and where you are headed to set realistic goals.
Thanks for the great tips, especially explaining about why it's a good idea to used crushed stone under concrete to avoid it freezing and expanding. I detect some Boston accents there lol
May 1, 2023. We are already in July Down Under. I think you’re running way behind on your vids. 😂 Got to say the best tool, in your toolbox is the red mallet. Keep those vids coming. It keeps us warm as it’s currently nippy down here. 🇦🇺
You guys are doing an excellent job. I love watching your videos, and I can learn a lot from it. I am in dire need for new steps (right now using some plastic stuff purchased on Amazon which are falling apart) and I was thinking of using those concrete blocks as well and I have two questions: 1: I have about 10 inch of stucco bellow my patio door, before it gets to weep screed and foundation. I am not sure if is OK to put those concrete blocks against the stucco, would that create any issues with the moisture? 2: Can you add patio pavers instead of stone veneer and is fo, do you glue them, or would you cement them?
Thanks for the feedback! And you can build you blocks right up against the stucco, it won't be an issue. And you can certainly use pavers instead of veneer and I think you can use glue or cement. I think a nice thin set mortar would hold better than glue though
Thank you, I usually just post on local facebook pages and my own business facebook page. Other than that, I get referrals from my material providers because I have good relationships with them. ✌
How deep is the foundation that you started with. I would’ve love to see this video from the very start. How does one know how deep the foundation must be.
The base has 6-8 inches of crushed stone and then we poured a 4" concrete pad on top of that. Here is a link to the full videos of this project 👉th-cam.com/play/PLo6xdtKoDxWYe8lFkdYnvAnNbRMA0VJ-3.html
Chip stone. 1b Limestone, granite chips...or whatever the clean angular 3/8" and smaller chip stone in your area is. No big stones as that is harder to screed and dosnt allow the pavers to settle on plane with each other when compacted.
What the height of each step without stair tread? Thank you And what kind of special mortar you using for adhesive veneer? Please name it in details if you could
Might a 26-gauge sheet of galvanized flashing Gorilla-glued to the house possibly protect the house from moisture associated with the steps? The siding of my house rotted because concrete was poured against my house with nothing separating the two. The only way for me to access and repair the rotting siding and sheathing and joist ends and sill plate is to remove the concrete steps.
The customer sealed the 2 inch thick kickboard with heavy sealer before we built up against it and then we used silicone along the top joint of the steps.
You are correct, the steps are 8" high which is the max by code. I don't think they are uncomfortable but I do believe 6" steps are more comfortable. But building it with 3 steps just did not make sense.✌
This project is Looking Good, maybe a barrows is 1/2 of a barrel...and I am not surprised that you are book with jobs..... Hard to find quality and detail minded people these days.
Thank you, that guess is as good as mine! never made much sense to me... I try to stay focused on quality, it seems like people are seeing that with the jobs I'm selling. Thanks again ✌
Barrow is an old english word for hand cart basically. I pushed one for a long time before I knew it was Barrow and not barrel also. Then I was like maybe its burro-- like a donkey...cus they carry stuff..lol
They end being similar in price, but yes a little cheaper. Some like that look but the stone veneer and cap is a totally different style that some like much more than solid stone steps, I'm one of them... lol ✌
@@TheChristianHardscaper yes sir. my fav verse. I used to tell my self when I was using and would get arrested. God works all things for good for those who believe and are called according to his purpose
MUcho bonito my friend!.
way to go on your pop quiz Benny 👍🏽👏🏽
This channel is awesome! I’ve learned so much! Have taken more courses for hardscaping. And building a buissness to provide and build a legacy.
Nice, glad to hear it! I wish you luck in your future ✌
I learned many more knowledge from ur videos thanks
Glad to hear it! ✌
Darby action! I was talking to a customer about open grade base today about a certain job
Yea buddy! And that is cool, they have drainage issues?

I’ve said it Plenty of times you guys do awesome work.👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I appreciate it every time you do! ✌
Love your videos man! You’re super talented!
Glad you like them, thanks for the comment! ✌
Do you have any videos of widening existing block stairs like this.
Great full for your videos
Do you need the row of block running along the house at the back of the steps?
Yes you do, it helps hold the pressure of the backfill stone as well as the concrete pad and granite landing. ✌
Thanks for the great tips, especially explaining about why it's a good idea to used crushed stone under concrete to avoid it freezing and expanding. I detect some Boston accents there lol
My pleasure, and yes sir! We are located in south central Ma ✌

I have an action Jackson wheelbarrow too
🤣 ✌
Love the work. What's the reason for the 3/4" aggregate? Pros cons
Thank you, the 3/4 is great for giving moisture a place to go and it is a low cost (compared to concrete) filler material.
Keep up 🎉🎉🎉

How about wheel Burro? As in a donkey? It would make sense cause of all the heavy stuff you can wheel around.
😂 That is a good one 👌
Instead of using sand as my top base below a paver what type of gravel would I use?
Chip stone. 1b Limestone, granite chips...or whatever the clean angular 3/8" and smaller chip stone in your area is. No big stones as that is harder to screed and dosnt allow the pavers to settle on plane with each other when compacted.
Nailed it Mike 👌

Those blocks are 8 inches high with mortar under them. So the steps are 8" high.
We use (Ardex) (X77) for the mortar.
So the 8" rise is ok?

Do you know what fabric they will be using, The coudura is about the toughest water resistant fabric I have seen
We used )Geo Grid in between the block layers and a woven geotextile plastic fabric under the base stone
Nice 🤝
More. :) 👍
Great job!! Love your videos. Im a DIYer can you tell me How do i determine how much veneer is would need? Thanks
Thank you! You determine that by square footage. So length x width x height of all the areas needed.
How much is it (work with materials)?
No flashing against the house?
The customer sealed the 2 inch thick kickboard with heavy sealer before we built up against it and then we used silicone along the top joint of the steps.
Who makes the stone veneer?
Northeast Masonry. it is called (Interlocking thin stone veneer panels)
These are 8x8x16's it appears. Is the rise too high/uncomfortable?
You are correct, the steps are 8" high which is the max by code. I don't think they are uncomfortable but I do believe 6" steps are more comfortable. But building it with 3 steps just did not make sense.✌
Yo Benny what are ya gonna name the frog.lol😅
Haha! Jackson Wheel Barrels... I mean Barrows should send you some new ones for free! 5 years on one of those barrels has a lot of miles on it. 😅😂
🤣 That would be awesome if they did, 5 years and man many miles for sure! ✌
