#Malaysia has been a great partner for the success of #Microsoft for decades. Another add on investment is welcomed but hopefully will benefit Malaysia more. #MalaysianGovernment

It is good. They invest money here which is also good for the ecosystem here, of course they will benefit. There is no free lunch in this world. But MS is a strong and longstanding partner in Malaysia since 30+ years ago. I rather them than other.

Indeed. #Malaysia has been a great help too for the success of MS since #TunMahathir's era.

They just advertise most of their software brand that exist years ago, I was hoping for a new partnership of Microsoft with Malaysian company to create a local build product. etc... Microsoft partnering up with Malaysian health care to develop new machine learning algorithms that would benefit us both. Instead the winner here are mostly Microsoft, yes efficiency rate is going up but in the end, we are just using their product, all of our research data will be freely given away towards them. Its a lose for us in the long run.

@@dudeezk The local media has been highlighting Malaysia should follow what Ireland to do in their tech sector. Basically, attracting all the top tech companies to be based here, and give them preferential taxes. At least, they will have all their best infra, ecosystem here whilst help build local talents and companies.

Oh no, you are wrong. Kedah is doing well in term of foreign investment. Chip production from Germany is expanding their plant in Kedah. Sanusi might look like hooligan, but he is good in attracting investor to invest more. Don't judge book by its cover.

Another form of infrastucture, cheaper space, protection of data souvreignty. However nothing of the design and higher end competencies. Infrastructure driven propositions and competencies are commoditizable. That's the middle income trap dressed in drag.. M'sia needs higher end coding skills and design competencies for higher end chips. Data centers are parking lots. How far is this really from the rent seeking paradigm?

Don't have to see it in negative light. Education and infrastructure are key to level up. It's definitely more positive than negative, not to mention the money as well.

So infrastructure improvements are not helping Malaysia to reach developed country status? Yes I wish we could get more but people like to view this thing as if this is a bad thing for Malaysia. How is this a bad thing?

Check the data beyond motherhood statements. What is the origin of Satya Nadella?.
Check what is going on in South India in terms of the tech hubs. Check the research of Professor Ilya Strebulev from Stanford University looking at the largest profile of startups in the US which are Unicorn startups and where their founders came from. You''ll be surprised. It's not about affirmative action, for minorities, nor white people dominance, nor about ethnocentric Guanxi, nor government connections etc. Check the Kaufman. The knowledge economy is not just infrastructure driven. It's been stuck since beginning after 25 years that's been not much improvement. Tech entrepreneurship is bottom up not top down the references given above will tell you the story. It's been too top-down, ethnic skewed and crony infested here in this part of the world. Not far away to the west it's the opposite; it's bottom up and they export CEOs and yet they harbour the third largest tech ecosystem for start ups in the world. Nothing to do with the government or land.
That's the robust insight from reports on tech entrepreneurship, and finally check this perspective from a Malaysian himself. www.astroawani.com/berita-malaysia/columnist-malaysia-s-position-global-innovation-index-false-comfort-risk-402269
