    Interesting thing: Joseph's actor originally declined the role, but he took a look at the script and instantly fell in love. There was a seen where Joseph cried morning for his family and he improvised most of it.

    If you read the new Far Cry comic series titled Rites Of Passage, where Anton is telling Diego the stories of the 3 villains featured in this season pass, in Joseph's story it actually shows the moment his wife gets in the car accident while he's at home building the crib, just like how the phone messages show and right after it shows him killing his daughter at the hospital too. Right after leaving the hospital is when he gets the instructions from the voice to find his family and prepare for the collapse. I only just discovered this comic like yesterday and I've only read Joseph's story so far (since he's my fave) but it's actually a really cool comic, I would recommend checking it out.

    The way I see it, Joseph was severely damaged right from the get go. Absent or dead mother, abusive father, psychotic little brother, violent and bitter older brother. He subconsciously manifests this "voice" and for lack of a better explanation, Joseph attributes it to the voice of God. It seems to want to protect him, keep his family safe etc.
    Joseph's life was not very positive or hopeful. He watched John's lack of empathy, his sick twisted urges spewing forth, he saw Jacob's fear and anger that eventually led to the murder of their father [EDIT: Ok, I had someone say the Book of Joseph mentions that Jacob doesn't actually go through with it, instead, someone calls welfare and they are orphaned], and then later on in his life he witnessed John kill his own wife (maybe not in person), and Jacob's struggle with PTSD perhaps leading to drinking problems.
    My guess is that he somehow got away from this and managed to carve out a life for himself, regardless. With a wife named Faith. And then, as the one good thing in his life is taken from him, he remembers that part of his subconscious that helped him survive as a child. The voice reappears and he gives himself over to it for better or worse. Becoming The Father.
    The biggest tell that his "God" is actually just psychosis; The Voice speaks in Joseph's voice because it's his thoughts.

    • @gamerstheater1187
      @gamerstheater1187 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      My theory is that the voice was an Isu, Ubisoft exists in this massive expansive universe and Far Cry is connected with the Assassin's Creed series. So it's possible that the voice or "God" was actually an Isu trying to manipulate him since many Isu in the series are malicious and hate humans.

      There is another in New Dawn where you can find the Paladin, the 4th Echelon mobile command centre from Splinter Cell: Blacklist. And there's the Abstergo facility in Far Cry 3 DLC.
      The cameos of Sam Fisher in the last two Ghost Recon games. Or the many game cases of AC, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon in AC games etc.
      If I had to give it a blanket assessment, I'd say that it's a very consistent inconsistency of sharing a universe when it comes to Ubisoft. On one hand, you have Tom Clancy games with a clear link. On the other, Watch Dogs appears to have Abstergo, but they also have Ubisift HQ, so... Definitely a Case by Case basis for what is linked and what isn't.

    Btw the Bible of Joseph mentions a lot about the back ground of the seeds. Specifically that Jacob never killed their father. Their dad would only hit Jacob and Joseph until one day the dad decided John was old enough to start being beat. John went to school after this abuse and the teachers saw bruises on him and they called in a wellness check to their household. Then the dad was sent to jail and he died by falling down the stairs during his sermons. The siblings were then sent to an orphanage. The book actually explains why Joseph is the way he is and why he thinks he’s right. I guess Ubisoft forgot about the book or just changed it last minute for the dlc. Great video nonetheless! 👍🏻 edit: Book of Joseph*

    Here's my take on everything with Far Cry so far. Ajay became king and drove out Pagan, but before Pagan left, he fired all the nukes he had at Montana. Joseph was actually right about the collapse because the radio news stations of Far Cry 4 said that there was political tension all across the globe, and somehow this news worked it's way into Joseph's delusions. Dani Rojas exists in a world *before* the nukes went off, hinted at by the fact that in the post credits Easter egg that Vaas was still alive at that time.

    • @thevoices5880
      @thevoices5880 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      The secret ending of the Vaas DLC shows an older Vass who is very much alive, and Far Cry 6 takes place in 2021, whereas Far Cry 5 takes place in 2018, so my guess is that the resist ending of FC5 and New Dawn (and by extension the Collapse DLC) is all happening inside Joseph’s head and we’re just looking through the eyes of characters in his vision, maybe all of it is a dream while he’s on the brink of death. Or there’s the possibility that it really is just two different timelines and that the canon ending for the main timeline is either the secret ending at the start, the walk away ending, maybe they actually did kill Joseph in the resist ending or even just arrested him at the beginning without much of a problem, or maybe they never even went to arrest Joseph in the first place and he and his cult just fell apart on their own. Either way this isn’t the clearest timeline, and I think it’d be nice if they did some sort of FC5 remastered with a new canonical ending where the Deputy either kills or arrests Joseph for good. Or at least release a comic or something showing what actually happened.

      All the numbered Far Cry titles take place in the year of their release. The "wait" ending was also confirmed as 4's canon ending, so either Ajay launched the nukes, or he was overthrown and Golden Path launched them. Far Cry 6 taking place after 5 (with the US being intact) confirms that only Hope County got hit.

New Dawn takes place in 2035,as evident by what you say, the fact that Carmina is canonically 17, and the description of the 1911 in FC:ND is that it's been around for 124 years. Since the 1911 was made in 1911, that means that 1911+ 124 years = 2035. In my opinion “The Voice” represents the true bad person Joseph ACTUALLY is. Now Joseph on the other hand believed he was doing right, as seen numerous times throughout the DLC. Joseph’s perspective upon the right doing (his faith) simply lead to the reality of his wrong doing (“The Voice”), but he was unaware of that. To simplify it, in his mind he thinks he’s truly doing good, but in all reality he’s actually doing bad things. At the very end though when he walks through Eden’s Gate he finally then realizes and comes to peace with the person he truly is which is “The Voice.”

    • @ThelegoLord
      @ThelegoLord 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely agree. I believe The Voice and his title as “The Father” is an allegory for his dark side.
      If you read the book of Joseph and read the comics about his backstory, it shows that he deeply was afraid to become a father because of how his own father abused him. He wanted to be nothing like him. He’d occasionally have nightmares about beating his own child and woke up in tears telling his wife how he’s going to be just like him. But she always reassured him that Joseph is nothing like Old Man Seed. It was not until that she died, where Joseph’s hopes and dreams of becoming a True beloved father were shattered, and he became The Father, aka, his father. He is schizophrenic, and The Voice is just the evil side of Joseph that represents his abusive father which he carried out to his followers

  • @90sGamingGuy
    @90sGamingGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +86

    Joseph took the concept of faith and morality and used it as justification in enact ing the will of “The Voice”. His character is tortured by all his tragedy growing up which breaks his mind and makes him submissive to his inner demon so to speak. We see with Vaas and Pagan that their minds break as well and they give in to the insanity in their head manifesting itself in different forms. For Vaas it’s Citra, for Pagan it’s “The Tyrant” and for Jospeh it’s “The Voice”
    As the end fight ensues we hear The Voice say that it was never about Eden’s hate it was about power. This moment serves to prove that Joseph had the same villainous desires as Pagan and Vaas but it’s more cleverly disguised due to his outward expression and justification using religion and God as his scapegoat. When Pastor Jerome gives him the opportunity to speak in the church Joseph speaks of himself as “The Father”. Anyone who is familiar with Christianity knows that God is also spoken of as “The Father” or “Our Father” like the name of the well known prayer.
    Joseph’s inner demon: his inner voice of insanity was tormenting him so much that he began to see himself as God because he told himself the voice was God. In the DLC he wrestles with The Voice because it’s a persona he’s created in his head and the concept of God is just the face he’s putting onto his wicked inner voice. This is a true tragedy knowing that a man who only wanted what he thought was best for his family was consumed by his ideology of how to save them ending in their deaths.
    Joseph Seed is an incredibly well written villain, and this DLC made me cry for him over and over. Anyone who like me grew up in a heavily religious family will know just how much the lines between religion and reality can blur and have you questioning your own sanity constantly…

    • @Ateezwooyoung
      @Ateezwooyoung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe that voice wasn’t God. You know there is someone else who preys on the vulnerable, the ones who can be deceived. It’s maybe not his inner voice/demons, but Satan/Lucifer. Who uses him and deceived him. As a Christian, I can’t imagine God saying some of the stuff He allegedly did. say to Joseph or made him do and at the same time He is okay with it. Like „oh you killing my other children, that’s fine!“ „kill your daughter for me!“ (yeah he did that before but he stopped Abraham from actually killing Isaac. But he didn’t stop Joseph. I doubt that God would be okay with the things that Joseph and the others did in His name. They committed every possible sin. Like killing, lying, torture, cannibalism, kidnapping, locking ppl up, drugging ppl and so on… whom would be okay or even enjoying all of this? God or Satan?

    For those wondering about the nukes mentioned in Control. Ajay works for the U.S. government. Since Joseph's cult got way out of control, no pun intended, the government wanted to get rid of it fast. Launching U.S. nukes into its own state would be a massive issue since the population could revolt. Conveniently, Ajay had some laying around in Kyrat. And since Kyrat is more of a rogue state than a country, the government could simply state that it was a terrorist attack and avoid any repercussions for the nuke launch, since even Pagan referred to Golden Path as terrorists.

  • @SpiritHunterDSG

    PSA!!!
    Jacob didn’t kill their father. Their father was arrested for child abuse and put into prison. Their father died in prison and their mother died in a psych ward.
    Also, I wish people would really stop saying “The Voice” is Joseph’s psychosis. If it wasn’t apparent before, this DLC showed Joseph actually DID have visions of the future and hears the voice of a divine entity guiding him. People thinking it’s his psychosis gives me as much as a headache as it does when people say Joseph launched the nukes. Joseph WAS a prophet and hated it the more he realized what he was doing.
    On top of the visions of his future with New Eden, Ethan, etc… if you stand idle long enough, the voice even warns him about the Highwaymen who will come to take and destroy everything. It also tells him to give the Apple of Eden to the “Captain” who later is revealed to be the protagonist of New Dawn.
    Whether or not the “Voice” is malicious is really up for interpretation, if something as a divine entity is guiding your hand they’re probably above human emotion and sentiments. Life and Death is merely part of human existence, thus is why the Voice felt no sympathy for Joseph feeing guilty for being part of murder and brainwashing. In the voices eyes, Joseph was merely a pawn and played his part. Once his time was up, the voice directed Joseph to pass his guidance onto “The Captain,” which is what Joseph wanted. He wanted to join his family in Eden (as he says and attempts at the end of the Collapse DLC) but the voice had more plans for Joseph and would not let him die until it was his time. The writing around Joseph Seed and his family needs to be examined in a different way to fully comprehend, it needs to be looked at in a way of divine intervention and something on the lines of metaphysical.

    • @115livingdead
      @115livingdead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like this interpretation more than the others. And it makes sense for Joseph to hear God speaking to him due to the premonitions.

    • @dremill1882
      @dremill1882 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @andrecashmare2091
      @andrecashmare2091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But bro it is his psychosis, the voice kicked in right after his breakdown from loosing his wife. And plus if it were some divine hand guiding him, I highly doubt it would justify everything he has done. Especially to the faith's. I believe his so heavily ridden by guilt that he formed himself a persona that tries to rid his doubt and convince him his doing the right thing. He already has a mesiah complex so the psychosis part isn't far off.

    • @andrecashmare2091
      @andrecashmare2091 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And also so you realise how "God" sounds like him? Ye see of ot were God it would have an eerie divine tone or something, wouldn't sound like him. But it sounds like him because it is him, he just manifested this voice to get him through stressful situations. Just like during his childhood, and right after his wife died. And see how the voice constantly justifies what he does and always makes him look like his right? The voice is there to protect him. Reassure him that everything will be alright, that voice is himself trying to get rid of all the guilt and remorse he feels for his actions. Due to him being unaware of his condition, he regarded this voice to be God's voice and did whatever the voice told him to do. That voice was a bully in his head, HE was THE bully in his head. His a psychotic narcissist who truly believes he is a savior.

    • @nasx.6959
      @nasx.6959 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't mention Joseph's monologue, after he lost all members of the Seed family. He thought that God made him the shepherd or a prophet, but in New Dawn he realized that himself and the Seed Family were the apocalyptic riders. That the Captain from FCND is the shepherd and not himself.
      So apparently yes, if you are religious and stick to this narrative, Joseph was right all along, except of the fact, that he wasn't a prophet, but one of the apocalyptic riders in the biblical sense.

      My theory is that Ubisoft got extremely butthurt that their favorite presidential candidate didn't win, so they sent the Far Cry universe down a nuclear apocalyptic path, because they just couldn't imagine any other outcome of a Trump presidency than global nuclear war. Now, they're scrambling to figure out how to fix this insane mistake they made, thats why there was no mention of the nuclear war in FC6.
      FC3, FC4 and FC5 are all connected, with characters that show up in all of these games (Willis Huntley and Hurk Drubman) but FC6 is not connected to the previous games. This is due to Ubisoft's butthurt knee jerk reaction to the 2016 election.
      Edit - Boomer is in FC6 and was sent there by Hurk. So it seems that FC6 IS connected to the previous games, it just completely ignores the nuke ending of FC5.
      I really like the crater Ubisoft dug themselves into with this.

      I wonder when Ubisoft is gonna make a FC game where they mock antifa or blm, or the left in general. If I had to guess, I'd say thats probably not going to happen.
      But to send one of the best video game franchises down a nuclear apocalyptic path just because Trump won and therefore breaking the Far Cry universe? That definitely happened.
      The FC universe is now broken into 2. Into a post nuke universe, and into a non-nuke universe. All because Ubisoft got big mad and big sad in 2016.

Because if you listen to his phone call he seems happy to talk to his wife, but when the child’s brought up he kinda seems to hesitate. Or seems sarcastic, really knowing what he did I wanted to kill him more then any villain. Especially being a father myself, when I found out he killed them I was dead set on killing him with Pagan I spared him cause I never felt like he was truly evil he did seem to care of ajays mom sister and even ajay. Seeming happy to see Ajay whenever he did but Joseph I hated him using his past and loss as an excuse for what he did or using God as an excuse for it. I didn’t have the best childhood either nor the best upbringing don’t see me killing people off just cause of it lol.

      The bias is strong here...
      Some people are apparently a lot manipulated by Pagan Min even tho he does the exact same stuff to innocents and equally is a cancer for Kyrat.
      He is ruthless dictator who kills or enslaves anyone who doesn't work or preach for and with no actual purpose for doing these things at all but oh well "i didn't want to kill him"
      He is literally straight up and purposely evil to everyone but Ajay and doesn't value any human life who is not Ajay and yeah doesn't have any justification...
      He is the most evil antagonist of the franchise because he is knowingly evil and clearly takes joyment in being ruthless. He never tries to justify or explain anything what he does, completely self motivated and he consciously enjoys being evil.
      Unlike Pagan, Joseph actually has good intentions, provides motivation factors to his evilness, and turns out to be right about something in the end thus the "greater good" argument actually comes on talk unlike with Pagan no matter how flawed we might say it is.

    Not sure why UbiSOFT insists on writing woke/emasculated characters though…I particularly despise the line where…like a bumbling idiot, he’s like “babe I put the crib together…and I’m not saying you shouldn’t look it over but it’s done,” or when he says “WE were pregnant…” haha. Come on.

    Joseph was never the villain
    He was always right at the beginning

    So is the voice Joseph hears in this DLC his VERSION of God, or is he being mind controlled by someone? The voice sounds desperate for him to be obedient and to follow their orders.

      It’s him, it’s his doubt, his fears, his ego. The voices he’s always been hearing. They’re himself.

    Faith fixes nothing. No matter how much you believe in it no matter how much you believe there is a God it doesn't fix anything.

      That's an oversimplification. Faith in something that is protecting you, looking out for you can be a huge help in a person's life, it bridges the gap of the typical psychology, psychiatry or mindfulness techniques for helping a person.
      Joseph didn't go through hell because his faith was pointless, he went through it because of what he was putting his faith in...It wasn't God, it was himself, something he created to cope with his abuse and trauma.
