    It's good to know that longer wings work well on DIY prelates! I will keep that in mind!!

    Your videos are truly the best! So helpful. Do you know of an inner that's wool/cotton blend? I'd love to have a blend without bamboo or hemp if they exist. We have majority GMD.

    I'm wondering what your reasoning is to preferring a boingo over a snappi on different diapers?

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Boingo's have longer claws that grab deeper and work better on certain types of fabric. For styles like preflats and eFlats that have narrow tabs that meet nicely in the front, I like Boingo. For styles with wider wings, I like Snappi's, which reach farther towards the sides. 💜Heidi

    So which one is your favorite and why? 😃 Do so shapes with equally well? My 15 yards if fabric arrives Thursday. I made a few prototypes and think I'll make an adjusted version of happy hippos. Tail fin looks super nice but still too much folding I think? I loved flats but the folding wasn't sustainable for me haha. Besides a nice wide middle to help jelly roll, any other features that stand out to you? :)

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My favorites are Fixed Flats and the Spunky Rumps diapers. They are both stretchy and give a nice seal around the legs. The fixed flat is easy to fold (if I need to fold one handed) and the contour with pocket is nice that it all stays together in one piece. My next favorite is the tail fin flat, but it's more absorbency than we need while practicing EC. I like square flats and these variations for 0-6M. Now that Baby is 6M, during diaper changes he rolls over, sits up, and sometimes crawls away. So now we do training pants in the morning, fitteds for outings, and some of these variations of flats for nighttime. Flats require him to stay laying still for me to jelly roll them in, which doesn't always happen. It's constantly changing!

      @@ECpeesy ahh yes thank you for that reminder haha! I really thought of making my preflats with quite some extra rise so they would hopefully last until she doesn't need diapers anymore, but I don't like how bulky that makes them. So if she'll roll too much when she's 6 months too I might change my system again too!

      I'll just stick to the happy hippos with longer wings, I need to stop trying to figure out the perfect design and get serging already, baby has been having plumber butt with her NB fitteds for a while now 😂 I'm sure it'll do!

      @@RikkyDTMaas-jk3rd There is no perfect diaper! At least not that I've found, and I've tried quite a few. I think sticking with your modified preflat is a good idea. Keep it simple! Preflats are really fast to sew, which is nice. It's been ages since I had a chance to work on my sewing projects. Hoping to get back to them again sometime. Which fabric did you settle on?

    Hello, I am starting to order diapers to take to phillippines for my first child. I am concerned with breathability and absorbency of the diaper in hot and humid weather. I've decided to go with wool covers like the puppi and square flats and fixed flats. Do you have any advice on the type of fabric that works best for breathability, absorbency and trimness in a troopical climate? The type of fabric is the part thats hardest to figure out.

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Natural fibers are the best for breathability! I've been using fixed flats, stretchy flats, and wool in hot humid climates. They are comfortable and breathable. The fixed flats take longer to dry than stretchy flats (cotton/hemp/spandex), which take longer to dry than 100% cotton. The trade off is that 100% cotton is not as absorbent. Will you be hanging them to dry, or will you have a dryer?

    • @paulchi99
      @paulchi99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECpeesy We will be hang drying and hand washing everything. Yes, decided not to go with 100% cotton but a cotton blend mix with bamboo or hemp, maybe a bamboo cotton french terry for the stretchy flats and use a bamboo or hemp cotton fleece for the absorbency. What do you think? Also, I've watched most of your videos. How big was the esembly cover compared to the clotheez cover?

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulchi99 Thanks for that additional info! Hand washing and hang drying makes a big difference. As much as I love Fixed Flats, they wouldn't be my top choice. Maybe have a few for nights or outings. When I tried hand washing them, it was difficult to ring the water out of them sufficiently to get them to dry in a reasonable time.
      I have mostly been machine washing and hang drying. The machine does a good job spinning the water out. You may want to look into a spinner/ringer to remove excess water.
      Bamboo/cotton cotton/hemp would be absorbent, but it could also take a few days to dry in rainy/ humid weather. For the fleece boosters it might work to cut rectangular half flats and fold them to use as boosters. I wouldn't sew multiple layers together.
      Not to sound discouraging, but I would recommend having some 100% cotton Birdseye flats as backup, for days when the other diapers are not drying. Monsoon season can be difficult! Green Mountain Diapers is currently having a sale on flats.
      While prepping your diapers, you could also test hanging them to dry to see how long it takes, although it will be different in a different climate. Best of luck! 💜Heidi

      @@paulchi99 Also, Puppi covers are a great choice. Those are quick to dry as far as wool goes. And the Esembly size 1 fit for quite a bit longer that the Cloth-eez covers.
